I think I found a legit source for VTC5s

I've pretty much sworn off them but vapordna which I trust started selling them in a set of 3 for $12.33ea. I just ordered a set three for $9 a piece. VTC5 is old news to me, these are old stock as Sony has specifically announced they will no longer produce the VTC5 weeks ago... Most outlets are selling the VTC5 in this old stock state with a single unit priced at more than a pair of 25R's...

Yeah I read that release by Sony. I just want em because I don't have a mech parallel box and feel more comfortable staying within the continuous discharge range vaping just under .2. Even though according to sony vtc5s are technically 20amp batteries, they perform well and come close enough. My he4's and 25r's are solid but that low, I'm not entirely comfortable.

That quote was from summer of 2014. The VTC5s I recieved from illumn two days ago have a production code for April 5, 2015.

Check your sources and don't necessarily believe them next time.

Actually, as far as I know, Sony never makes a claim to the continuous amp limit of the VTC5. They published performance tests and let the designing engineer make the call.

If you use the same standard Samsung uses for the 25r, the VTC5 comes out at 23A-24A (so, I've read on the Internet). The problem is there is no industry standard for rating batteries.

Yeah I've guesstimated about the same from reading around. What we need is a reputable person/company (i.e. dampfaukkus) to have a standard test methodology that is tailored to vaping and how we run these cells. I think we'd have a better idea about real world performance.

The source was good, but they dropped the date off the published release and I never bothered to follow up and verify so yeah totally my fault there. Either way the price still bothers me, had sony not had to pull the VTC5 for a few months I think many people wouldn't have discovered how good the other battery offerings are, the only reason I even started looking for other batteries is because the VTC5 went down without a sign of coming back up swinging, low and behold I found the 25R works better for my purposes and costs half as much.

It was kind of nice to be forced to check out other offerings. I haven't tried the LGs yet, but got a pair of VTC4 and 25r. For my use, single battery mechanical, the 25r was better than the VTC4. But I like the VTC5 most of the three. I really like the low voltage drop I get with the MNKE 26650, but don't like the weight and my 18650 mod is much nicer.
