I want to build a regulated mod without VV/VW like a kanger dripbox

Hello Newbie here and to vaping and modding.
I'm hoping someone can provide me some insight here. I'm not sure what I am looking for.
I want to build a mod that is relatively safe like the non adjustable ones that can be bought like a kanger dripbox or a smok priv 8. I see they have a circuit board in them that I assume supplies the safety features that I want: reverse battery, minimize the chance blowing my hand off etc.
I looked at dna chips but they are beyond what I want to do. The OKR/OKL VV boards scare me. Can those simple control boards like the the ones mentioned above be had with sacrificing a perfectly good mod? If so what are they?

What about a Switchfet?

Has reverse battery indication - I will fire your atty if battery is inserted the wrong way. It doesn't have short circuit protection, but you could put a fuse in-line. It will prevent you firing when your battery drops below 2.7v. It also has a switch built in making wiring pretty simple

Eleaf pico (among others) can be used in "bypass mode".
No adjustments, put some tape on the screen and just push the button to fire until the battery is depleted. (~3.2V-3.0V)

What size space do you have to work with? Budget? Experience?

I believe that is exactly what I was looking for. I also found a place that sells them. And I suppose I am going to have to listen to Switchfoot and see what they are all about since I had to wade through their links to find the switchfet. Thank you so much for you help!

I have as much space as I need. Two-hander I suppose if necessary,. Budget: It's my first foray into mod building so I'm trying to keep it under $50 usd. Experience: You are putting a hand grenade in the hands of a 5 year old here. I have a lot of experience working with wood, fiberglass, hand and machine tools. Have soldered the occasional wire and copper pipe. Building circuits, none. I have a basic understanding of Ohm's Law and Youtube videos. Hence I am here asking questions. I feel pretty comfortable playing with wattage because of the range. Voltage on the other hand has a very narrow band and that scares me. Set that wrong and there is a significant chance of overheating the batteries. I have found that lithium batteries and heat don't play nice. Thanks for taking an interest in my project.

I presume you're talking about Modmaker.co.uk, worth picking up an actuator (button) at the same time. Check out Sledz, they make a 3d printed mount for it, and you can specify the Modmaker button for the throw
