multimeter, wick ,wire, cutters and probably magnification, whether you wear it on your head or build under it and a few screwdrivers.

That's a start and before you use a mech, make sure you can make reliable, consistent coils - for what you use you'll struggle to find better than a microcoil wicked with cotton.

However - don't use good batteries in a crap charger. Batteries and chargers are - or ought to be, at the top of your shopping list, especially with a mech, so buy the very best you can afford.

Good decision. If you're looking to do builds honestly the easiest to learn on is a dripper. That way you learn the coil building, and it's really hard to screw up the wicking on an RDA but the Kayfun is really easy for an RBA.

I recently bought a mechanical mod. Picked up the EHPro Caravela clone mod and love it. I bought it on ebay. It has the brass you mention. The mod is a work of Art. This seller was reasonably priced and had lightning fast shipping.

I bought 4 Kayfun's from this seller. Same lightning fast shipping. Love the Kayfuns.

I bought a couple high discharge MKNE batteries from my local shop and just placed an order for some Sony VTC5's. Nothing really does as well as the Sony's. I ordered them from VaporDNA.

In terms of tools you could really use the following.

  • Mini Butane Torch
  • Mini pliers
  • Mini wire cutters
  • Mini screw driver set
  • Sharp scissors
  • Ohm Meter
  • Tweezers
  • Kanthal Wire and Wicks.

Optional: Small toolbox organizer box is helpful.

Multimeter, screwdriver, wick, wire, nail clipper, needle nose are definites.
Most People use a drill bit to wrap the coil around, I find that some pieces cut off a metal cost hanger work perfect- i lose stuff allot and had to macguyver a coil and found the diameter of my coat-hanger to be perfect and the only tool I NEED is my trusty leather man multi-tool.

None- the -less, ill disclaimer this by saying I don't drop or use a mech so I couldn't tell you which droppers are good to learn on but the kayfun is apparently perfect, if I could learn on one anybody can. Also a good genesis starter would be a
smoktech rsst.
As for the coils, the one thing I learned through trial and error was to wrap the coil before you temper the wire; wrap it as tight as you can by hand then pinch it together with the pliers and torch away, that way the kanthal will want to stay tight- I must have gone through a good ten foot of wire before that lightning bolt hit me.
Also wicking the kfun doesn't take much wick material- allot less than you would think by looking at it.
Just thought of this- if your hands aren't that steady or your eyes are not as good as they once were you may want to consider a third hand-
I have one in my lab and will use it there but at home I tend to take my time a little more

When I first started I rebuilt coils for my aspire. I mean they worked but but very well. I tried to keep buying American made products. I went to Sears found a craftsman screwdriver set for less than 20 maybe ten. It has a 5/64, which is very popular diameter. I've used that same set countless times, for different screws along the way. I also got a pair of very inexpensive tweezers as well as a butane lighter. I ordered kanthal from techmo. Went to while foods for organic cotton. I still use everything I've mentioned every time I build a coil.

My first dripper(that I learned on) was my patriot clone, has a decent sized well and it's big enough for some play room. I found the kayfun a little more challenging(for me at least) since it was a smaller area to work on than I was used to. Right now I have 2 drippers(Patriot/Trident clone) and my Kayfun, as well as 2 mechs(nemesis clone, maraxus clone<---is a beast).

To start rebuilding all you need is wire and wick. Only need an ohm meter if you don't have one on your mod. Everything else can be picked up as you need. Don't need a full arsenal of tools, most stuff around the house will do. But will pick up stuff along the way as one becomes more proficient. I picked up a nice tool set at Michaels hobby store.

I've hear of people using the tools from the jewelry making kits is that what they normally get, to your recollection?
Just asking for the op- to maybe help him out a bit- I'm happy with my leather man
