My USB passthrough has spoiled me to the joys of 5V vaping. I would like to build a 5V mod that I can actually walk away from the computer with but I'm an imbecile when it comes to working with gadgets so it would have to be something fairly simple. The more detailed the instructions the better. I'm looking for ideas/suggestions/detailed blueprints for a good 5v mod with a 510 connector.

What I Need:
5V
510 connector
Simple to build
Detailed instructions
Safe
Reliable
Costs $40 or less to build.

Ready...... Set...... GO!

Willie, should be under $10 not counting batts and charger. Several choices here with or without juice, use 5v as the guideline, and I would recommend the 3AA box with 2x 14500 configuration to start:

compare a couple and happy building :)

There's another possibility and I will be trying it out in a few hours.

I built a silly box mod yesterday mostly just so I could test the NiZn batteries that have become available fairly recently on the market. In theory they put out a nominal 1.6V/cell, rather than the 1.2V of NiMh and 3 should give 4.8V. If that is the case, then a 3cell AA puck thing will do it. Can't get much cheaper. Built mine for right around $10. Charging batteries right now.

Sure, it's just a crude PUCK. Has no LEDs to light up or anything. The KISS principle in action. If a 510 was the family car and an eGo was a SUV, then a AA puck is a dumptruck.

And the latest version from ThePuck.

One can, of course make the 4xAAA version and end up with 4.8V as well.

Your project is imminently doable.

Like Asdaq said Madvapes tutorials. It doesn't get any easier than that or search the modders forum there are many in there.

I've searched the mod forum a few times. (As well as the forum "search function" will let me. :glare: ) I really haven't found much that's tripped my trigger yet. I was thinking a flashlight mod maybe but it seems like box mods are the easiest route to go from what I've found so far.

Holy smokes! I never know I needed that battery clip until I just saw it. Any ideas on there I can find a 2xAA battery holder with a 9v clip like shown in this video?

I asked the guy that posted the video. (I think it's e-joker just from some references I've seen but not positive)
He said he got it at a local electronics store but they could probably be located at "The Shack"

'Yay it works'- nuff said. If you're looking to store your juice collection that box is nice, but the components used, the way they are placed-- leaves something to be desired. If you like wood designs, have a look at Kaji's Ali'i. Here's a review:

Oops its not 5v, but it is 3.7 or 6v, but if nothing just for the inspiration of What Could Be...

Those are nice but too rich for my blood.... And I don't think he's giving up his schematics, is he?

Awesome! And my local Shack has them in stock! :w00t:

Wouldn't you need a 5V reg for this?
Also need to find a way to put an LED on it....
I'm not sure, which project you want to follow now? The Ali'i uses one batt for 3.7v (pretty sure a 18650), or the 2 in series for 6v (where one of the batts is only 3v, not 3.7). Plus it has a juice feed system and I'm not sure if you want that either. The 5v reg is used to bring 2 -in series- 3.7v batts to 5v. Most people leave the 6v where it is. LED later, but what do you want to work with again?
