I'm not sure, which project you want to follow now? The Ali'i uses one batt for 3.7v (pretty sure a 18650), or the 2 in series for 6v (where one of the batts is only 3v, not 3.7). Plus it has a juice feed system and I'm not sure if you want that either. The 5v reg is used to bring 2 -in series- 3.7v batts to 5v. Most people leave the 6v where it is. LED later, but what do you want to work with again?
I'm not really trying to follow any particular one. I know at this point I want a wood box and 5V. That's about it. I like the snap on battery connector from the vid I posted. No muss, no fuss. I definitely don't want to mess with a juicer like the Ali'i. They are nice looking but fancier than I'll ever get.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Cool. Just noticed you're from St. Joe, my bro's wedding was there, nice old country feel :)

Then with wood, it's got to be thicker, so I would recommend the slender 14500's even more so. Use a LDO regulator as per tutorials to drop down to 5v and the LED runs parallel to the atty with a 470k resistor in line with the positive to the LED so it won't burn out.

If I might ask, how good are you with wood?

I'm so-so with wood. I took wood shop in high school and did a couple of wood building projects with my grandfather. I know how to use a drill. Anything I actually build would be really basic though. I will probably look around the craft stores for a suitable box and then drill it.

Just a quick idea of what can be done by a guy that knows nothing much about wood. I used a straight edge router and cut a u shape piece. Glued two ends on the top and botton and cut a lid. I plan on staining these with boiled linseed oil. Both will use a 5v LDO regulator. The horn switch is from madvapes.

The larger squatty box is for 18350's. The taller box is for 14500. I think the 14500 is probably the best box as far as the in hand experience.

My USB passthrough has spoiled me to the joys of 5V vaping. I would like to build a 5V mod that I can actually walk away from the computer..
You sure you've actually vaped at 5V? Vendors these days have a habit of calling any cord/switch/connector with a USB plug a '5V PassThrough'. The only way to get 5V is to supply the correct amount of current for the atty you are using. With a Joye 510 atty you won't get enough current (2.4A) for 5V from either a computer port or an AC USB 2000mA adapter.

What if I'm not using an atty?
I'm a cartomizer lover.

Either way, I know that my passthrough cranks out a ton more vapor than my 3.7 box does. (And my 3.7 cranks out quite a bit on a full charge.)

Those are pretty slick.
(I had to wait until I got home to reply to this since work blocks Photobucket and I couldn't see the pics.)
I really like the one for the 14500's. It looks like it fits your hand well. I might have to resort to something like that since I'm not finding a ready made box I'm happy with.

Of course, I also had the idea of using one of those old aluminum cigarette cases as well.
Too many ideas in my head, not enough time!
