I was surfing thru the customs webby and saw the tax rates for analogues and other type of tobacco products. The standing rate is "35.2cents per gram or part thereof per stick of cigarette" and 1 stick is definitely less than 1g.

Link here: List of Dutiable Goods
So effectively, the gahmen is taking $7.40 per pack or 20s.

According to the tobacco free SG webby 14.3% of SG adults are smokers
Link here: Smoking in Singapore increasing especially amongst young - Towards Tobacco-Free Singapore

Assuming 70% of the 5.2mil people are >18yo adults and 14.3% translates to 520,520people. If they smoke 4 packs per week we are looking at 208 packs per year per pax. For 520,520 pax that would be 108.268160 million packs per year for the smokers. Hence the taxman would be raking in $762.207850 million.

Imagine the amount of GST they have to charge if all smokers turn to vaping!

I was assuming a more conservative smoker who smoke 2pkt in 3days and it adds up to 762mil.

If ppl think SG has one of the lowest income tax rates, think again.

40% of ur petrol price goes to the gahmen, 20% of ur car price w/o COE goes to gahmen, COE easily 50% of gross price of ur car goes to gahmen, alcoholic drink are taxed, CNG for ur car is taxed, ciggies are taxed, whatever u buy costs 7% more, ur property is taxed and etc etc.

Death and taxes my friends. Death and taxes.
