Mildly amusing. They seems to have addressed this issue of "metal stuff = shank parts" but seemed to have just skipped over "battery stuff = mini explosive device." Unless they are making disposables with IMR batteries - which is highly unlikely.

I was thinking the same thing when I heard of Blu's being sold to the local inmates here.

I've actually had hands on with these....and not in prison. A friend is trying to franchise and sell them here in Atlanta prisons. They're actually a pretty decent vape. The one I tested lasted 2 days (continuous vaping), decent flavor, and had better production than I expected from a disposable stick. If I could, I would have kept a few of these around for an easy pocket vape while at work.

I think it's a remarkable invention. Jail is bad enough without forced smoking withdrawal. I imagine it will do wonders for discipline, too -- get in trouble, don't bother sending 'em to the "hole," just cut off their vape privileges. They'll be model prisoners if they know that's in the balance.

You can already purchase portable radios that take removable AA batteries. The AA's and some wires removed from a pair of broken headphones makes a nice ignition source for cigarettes on the inside. ;-)

They might...or they might just go back to smoking cigarettes that came in hidden under someone's foreskin :S

Geez... I'm a woman and still find that gross. Hate to think how gross a non-gay man would find it. Besides which, foreskins are not often found on American men.

Before I retired I used to have a couple of prisons in my territory when I was an electronic printing systems tech rep. The guys who worked in the print shop made a small salary, like 70 cents an hour, that they could use to buy things in the prison store. Cigarettes were still available then and were outlawed a few years ago.

Ecigs are probably a good treat that can be taken away for offenses. Things like that absolutely do govern behavior in most inmates. They aren't stupid. It's a good way of balancing behavior and privileges. Take it all away and they have little to lose.
