I just finished up ( 12:10 am) after being in a crawl space since 9:00 am) repairing plumbing. Only to find out that I had to have the city come in to clear up the main sewer drain. I'll leave out all the messy parts, no one wants to hear about that. I was pretty sure about that before I even started, but you don't know until you get into it.

About 4 hours in as the dollars mounted up, I had to buy some smokes. After coming this far I feel I've really let myself down, but I know I can get back on track. I was lucky that they only needed to clear it, not rip up the sidewalk and lawn. That would have been really big money that I can't afford.

Funny thing is I didn't enjoy even one of 4 or 5 I've had today and couldn't even remember the last time I bought smokes. That's a good thing, but the 18mg juice I have wasn't cutting it. On a normal day it does, but this was not a normal day, and I'm so glad it's done.

I should add that I vaped on the eGo right in front of the Enbridge guy and the city guy that did the routing job and neither one said anything. I thought they might have asked about it, but nothing. Too bad.

Yeah, don't beat yourself up about it. vaping is very much an at-your-own-pace kind of thing. Don't put pressure on yourself that you feel like you can't have a cigarette -- if you need one, have one, and just avoid stressing about it. The great thing about vaping is that it is such an effective and similar substitute for smoking that you can jump right back into it with little or no problem and forget about analogs all over again. :)

Every few months I seem to break down and have a few cigarettes. It's like I have to test myself. And I can honestly say I never really enjoy them so I don't know why I do it. But I kind of equate it to alcohol and candy. If it is around I will drink it. If fattening stuff is around I will eat it. I don't always necessarily enjoy them either but have them because I can!!!

I don't beat myself up about it because in testing myself I have found I really do much prefer my ecigs. It is not even a conscience effort to go back to them.

Last Friday I had a fight with my dearest husband...so I did my old coping mechanism, I went and bought a bottle of Chardonnay and my old favorite cigarettes. I almost had to force myself to finish 4 of the cigs...thinking after the first one they would start to taste better.

After 4 they still tasted nasty. I went and drowned them in water and threw them out.

Over the weekend I finished the Chardonnay with my favorite Vape instead...by the pool with my husband :)

Every time I think "I just have to have a real cigarette" I find out I really actually do prefer vaping much more.

You could almost look at it as a small victory that:

a) You re-confirmed just how terrible they taste, and a thought I am sure will stay with you next time the thought comes around.

b) You were not happy with your actions, and rather than saying "welp looks like I smoke again" you instead decided to reinforce your resolve and stay enjoying vaping.

If you think about how many times before you tried to quit, and after a cig or two, that was all it usually took to be back to your normal intake.

This time around it's different, you've made an obvious mental switch in your habits, that is one of the hardest things to change :)

I personally am still at that "geez I am sure I a missing something from an analog" and usually have one in the morning if I have one... I just started vaping again and I consider going from over a pack a day to 1/2 a smoke, 1 or 2 here and there a success , because it is becoming less and less, and each time I do it seems to reconfirm the only thing different is the fugly taste and the fugly smell ( Fugly = F'in ugly).

Keep on keeping on

Yeah I have had to come to terms with the fact that I'm a hardcore addict and I will slide back from time to time but having that realization actually makes it easier for me to stay away from the ciggies. When I thought of myself as having "Quit" the cravings were somehow worse if that makes any sense.

Still I have had less than 3 packs since early November (I was a 1 + PAD), not allowing myself to feel guilt because I took a step backward is a plus for me personally. I know if I want one I can have one but it`s MY choice!

I think after having a smoke not feeling the failure and the inevitable conclusion of "Well since I`m starting from day one I might as well start tomorrow and get a couple packs." somehow helps me.

When I do go back cigs taste terrible, they hurt my lungs and after a day I'm coughing horribly so why would I WANT to keep going? I have no excuse, I screwed up but oh well all my batts are charged!

Pink elephant syndrome. You will always think about the very thing you are told, or tell yourself, not to think about -- and by extension, you will always want what you can't have. Control is absolutely key to moderation. Giving yourself permission but making it entirely at your discretion will always make abstinence easier than denial. But as long as the ball is always in your court you have the freedom not to play with it.

I've learned in the past that these little failures we face ourself with, just make us stronger. It's just part of a learning curve. The next time it happens, you'll think back to the weakness you just had & may think it out, a bit more the next time your faced with it. We've all failed "quitting" at least once. I know, I've had a couple of experiences where the thought of reaching for a cig entered my mind but with the 2 failed attemps I had years ago, it made me strong enough to carry on wth vaping.

I had a buddy who quit cold turkey simply by convincing himself he could have a smoke anytime he wanted then he just chose not to smoke right then. If you asked if he quit he would answer "Nope, just taking a break." Crazy the mindtricks you have to play on yourself sometimes.
