Newbie here and this is my story:

I joined the USAF in 2003 as an 18 yr old non-smoker. I started smoking about a year later for probably the same reasons as most. Boredom, excuse to get outside, social environment, drinking... I found out that more work seems to be accomplished out in the smoke pit anyway.

About three years ago, a buddy of mine was vaping on a Blu out in the smoke pit. Me being instantly attracted to any electronic gimmicky thing, had to get a starter kit myself. It seemed a bit of a novelty at the time, and I liked the idea of being able to "smoke" inside during extreme weather. I believe that Blu has improved on their product since then but at the time it didn't change my regular smoking one bit. I would get one or two good drags out of a cart and nothing even close after that. I wasn't trying to quit at all, I was just looking for a supplement and to quit smoking in the house. The experiment ended in failure.

About 4 months ago, I was out in the smoke pit and another buddy of mine was vaping on an eGo and putting out plumes of vapor. We got to talking, and he offered for me to try it. I was blown away! I had to vape it two or three more times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It was like a real cigarette, but it tasted much better! I decided that I would give vaping a try again sometime in the near future.

Two months ago, I moved from Georgia to northern California. After buying my first carton of cigs after the move (yowch!), my encounter with my buddy instantly came back to mind. Again, the previous reasons were there as justification...vape inside, avoid extreme weather, but now save a couple of bucks.

So now we're down to one month ago. I went to ivape.net, bought a KGO starter kit, a bottle of juice, and stepped into the world of vaping. I cut down immediately from 1.25/pad to 1-2 smokes a day. After a week, I just stopped all together. I was trying to finish off the half carton that I still had and there's no way I'll be able to do it now haha. Just the thought of having a smoke now makes me feel sick.

I got to say thanks to all of you that I was discretely getting information from while I was starting this journey. I have since expanded my knowledge to try out different resistance cartos and attys, tanks, and now my first mod (lava tube) is on it's way. I think after I settle down a bit I will eventually start to save some money haha. But my health in the long term is worth more to me.

Thanks all for the welcome. Really looking forward to the lavatube, really stoked about playing around with voltages (hopefully I don't cook anything :p )

I also just got a J Tank the other day and am loving that as well. Quick question for you tankers. The J Tank is great and all but is a bit of a pain/messy sometimes to fill. I watched Pbusardo's review on the Trap Tank and saw he also mentioned the mini sub tank. Any thoughts on tanks that you can fill without messing with the carto?

The Viva Nova does away with most of the common tank shortcomings. It's rebuildable, easy to clean and take apart, and it doesn't leak. No cartos required.

Congrats Torment!

My brother stopped by one day and brought two batteries, two clearos, and two bottles of liquid. Within a week and a half, I had quit cigarettes altogether. My smoking fell from a pack a day, to two per day, then one per day, then none. I still have some cigarettes sitting in a drawer, but don't really think about them. I hadn't intended to quit either. I tried the gum and patches, but ecigs are the only method which allowed me to quit.

Hey awesome orchiolum. You had pretty much the same rate of reduction that I had. I've never tried the patch myself but my old man quit for about a year when he tried the patch. My mom and I gave him crap about gaining weight and I think he started back up to get us to shut up haha. I remember him complaining about the rashes he got while he was using them.

I forgot my dip once on a long flight and a friend of mine gave me a piece of gum. I hated it and from that point forward I never forgot to bring a can with me. Now I just use snus when I fly, but I'll sneak a quick vape or two if nobody is watching.

Hey rbt9, thanks for pointing me to GrimmGreen review. This will be my first VV so I think I'll be ok as an entry level mod. The price of it looked pretty good so I'll give it a shot. The fact that it automatically adjusts the voltage when you slap on LR atty/cartos may be a bummer for some but will probably keep a noob like me from burning stuff up.

That's two for the viva nova and I'm also seeing a bunch of threads about it on the tank section of the forums...this has really got me interested now. Thanks.
