I went into vaping blind. I took what the guy recommended from the smoke shop and im not very pleased with it. Can you recommend a good one?

I apparently have an off the wall brand eGo style e-cig. The kit seems to be a generic Flow. I don't get much vape and the battery life sucks. Since I'm a beginner I'm looking for something simple, yet good quality. Can you give me some suggestions on a good one that isn't too pricey?
Is it the cartridge/atomizer that gives a good vape or does the battery also affect it? I'm looking at this one:

Mini Kanger Protank 2 Mini Pro Tank Glassomizer

Is it ok to buy this and a standard battery or should I look for a kit?

The protanks are a pretty good place to start. They are easy to use and should give you a satisfying vape.
I would recommend a 1000 or 1100 mah ego battery, preferably one that is variable voltage. I really like the EGO VV. It is variable voltage and charges from a USB port. This allows you to vape while it is plugged into your computer or other charge port. They can be found for around 20.00, a pretty solid deal for starting out.

I have many mini protank 2's and I think they are very good. (I know you are new but I am just letting you know that I rebuild my coils. If you want to do that as you get more knowledge and experience, I'm just letting you know that it is possible). Replacement coils are not very expensive. I like the mini protanks because they are glass, not plastic, but that is my personal preference. I've heard very good things about the Evods which are a great kit. (or you can buy them separately, as well.)

I agree with Rob0506 that you should get a 900 or 1100 mah ego battery and charger. Actually you should get two so that you can have one charged up for when you are not able to vape while charging. (or use the one you have) Getting one that is variable voltage is a great idea.

Discount Vaper is a good place to get a Kanger Ego battery, mini protank, extra coils and a charger.

I wasn't able to find a kit with the mini protank that was in stock that I thought was a reasonable price. It will just be easier to buy them separately. Discount Vaper is a little less expensive than My Vapor Store. But they are both good retailers.

I would honestly suggest spending a little extra and getting an Itazte vv v3 or an mvp2. They're vv/vw, mvp2 has really good battery life, Itazte has that form fit that people like. Both really good mods that won't disappoint. If the ego is what you want then go with an ego, but you're only going to get so much battery life out of them, and even the vv versions don't necessarily give you a great amount of power.

I'd recommend the iClear 30 or the 30S. I believe it's a competitor to the protank. I loved it until I got RDA. It vapes warm, it's a dual coil clearomiser. Holds 3ml. Rotatable drip tip. Good flavor and good vapor production for a clearomiser. :)

Edit: the 30 and the 30S are pretty much the same, but the 30S has a metal tube concealing the wicks on the inside. Also the 30S's drip tip is removable so you can switch the tip out to something else that may tickle your peach more. 510 size, with threads.

the protank 2 mini has a more aesthetically pleasing form factor for ego batteries. the regular protank looks kind of funny on an ego even with the beauty ring. the physical appearance of your device may or may not matter to you i dont know. Also, the Protanks are glass and you can use any juice in them. you cannot use some juices in plastic tanks

the only downside on the mini protank is the small liquid capacity. you have to work on your refill skills to get the most of the somewhat small tank. if you've only used 1.6ml tanks though you wont notice any difference

buying in a kit can be convenient but what it really means is you are grab-bagging. it's better to choose the parts you want instead of settle for what's included. otherwise, you'll probably continue searching for stuff and might not be satisfied.

itaste vv 3 can be found at most online vendors for less than $40 usd. the protank mini is like ~$15. after shipping youd be paying ~$60-$65 for the set.

the rock bottom lowest price for itaste vv + protank mini will be like $50 or 55 after shipping and you may have to order through 2 different vendors. this is to give you a general idea of how much you can save by searching google like a mad person for hours and hours. you can decide if the 10 dollars difference is worth the time

the reason i suggest the itaste vv is simple: there arent a zillion knockoffs of it being sold online. the ridiculously large and knocked off selection of standard ego or ego twist batteries will make your head spin and you never know if you're getting a good quality product. at least with the itaste you know what you're getting and it has a unique easy to distinguish look about it

good luck

I'm relatively new to vaping, but here's what I started with: the standard evod bcc starter kit - came with two 1000 mAh batteries, two clearomizers and replacement coils. It was simple and easy to use, the batteries lasted a long time even with chain vaping, and I really enjoyed them. Recently ordered a KT VV 1000 battery by mistake (thought it was a regular battery), and love it. Being able to adjust voltage is actually really nice, and works well with the mini protank 2s we ordered. Those and my halo g6 autos are my go-to vaporizers (g6s are great for those moments I really want the hand to mouth reminiscent of an analogue, and they function great for little ecigs :D). My standard KT batteries do duty as back up now :)

I'm really happy with my current set up, but then again, I'm not one interested in the heavy tech/mod side, I have a feeling I'd royally mess it up.

Yea, if you are looking for quality at a good price I would recommend the MVP v2. I bought mine in October, and I love it. Never had a problem with it, battery lasts 2-3 days between charges ( I vape pretty heavily, but at low voltage/wattage). And the pro tanks are definitely the way to go

Do you plan to continue vaping? If so, consider ordering a SVD by Itaste ( if you dont have batteries, get the starter kit) and look into a rebuildable tank ( HCigar has a 3.1 Kayfun clone that is awesome ..Luxor Vapes)
I made the mistake of buying Blu's, eGo's, Protanks, Evod's, Vamos... wasted way too much money on those items.... if I took the money I spent on the other stuff I could have owned 3 SVD's and 3 HC 3.1's

Whatever you buy, look at something that uses IMR batteries in 18650 size for long vape time. If you buy an eGo once a year because the internal battery starts to lose the ability to hold a charge, you begin to save money with a mod that uses replaceable IMR batts. You will pay about $25 to replace an Vision Spinner, but only about $10 to replace a 2000mah 18650 battery.

MVP and VTR are becoming popular these days. If you like the square shape, they look like a good alternative to the tube. Your eGo will still be a good backup to the mod that becomes your main vape.

Read the reviews of various mods here on ECF and you will become sufficiently educated in short order.

You are on the right track with the mini PT II. I prefer the Innokin Itaste VV3 over an ego batt. Variable voltage/variable wattage/puffcounter/ohms meter and pretty danged tough. I have a fleet of them as they can be had for under $30. Here's what that setup will look like, ignore the Epipe on the right, but it's sporting the mini PT II as well. I also switched out the bases for Aerotank bases but it's not really neccessary. click on pic to enlarge

Personally, I have never wished that I started with an external battery, mod and rebuild-able set ups as a starting point. My favorite analogy for this is giving a 16 year old with a fresh licence a sports car that it a kit car and needs to be built. I don't personally enjoy the tinkering aspect of vaping even though I have some "tinkering" products but you need to understand how this equipment works and what you personally like and what your personal vaping style is before buying new things.

Even with the cheapee tank style atomizers, you should think about what you like because all of this is a preference. I don't personally want a hobby, I have too many already and I just want effective and simple. I still use a Protank II as a daily driver for this reason even though there are RBAs and RDAs at home.

In regards to the PT Mini, it is a good working device but I gave two of them to my wife. Aesthetically, they look better and the fact that the PTII full size looked like a lollipop bothered me but it did work better. Add an Aerotank base and boom! Stopped looking. The mini has an airy draw and not a strong hit in my opinion as compared to the normal PTII. I found myself plugging an air hole with my finger to get a decent drag.

@BigCatDaddy.....your epipe setup looks really cool

I have a no-name EGo 900mah I got off Ebay that works just fine (it only cost 8 dollars). Maybe there's something wrong with your battery or the clearomizer/coil you are using

I use regular CE4 Stardusts or Vivi Mini Novas, but then I prefer top-coil designs for the warmer vapor. Bottom-coils have to be kept topped up or they will tend to leak, also, but they do tend to produce a little more vapor and take higher voltages/heat easier.

+1 on the MVP. I started with the "local stick"...a "Puff", it worked, technically, but geesh. As I progressed, got the ego c twist, nicer, but still not great. Then I got the MVP2.....have arrived!!! Now I just play around with different tank setups and about to venture into mech mods (for me)
But, when my sister, and her Dr. friend, wanted to quit as "easy" as possible, I had to take into account their tech. skills (or lack thereof) and got them both an MVP2, one ego 1100maH for backup, Davide BCC tanks (glass, wont have to worry/think about which juices to use/not use) and a pack of replacement heads. I was initially turned off by the top loaders (Iclear16 and 30) with all the strings hanging like octopus out the top, and clogging/cleaning issues, so got them the glass with replaceable (think "easy") little heads and they have both done exceptionally well. The Dr. just called and said he order 4 more mini-Davide's and 4 more full size ones, so he likes the way they work. If you want to keep it easy and avoid the charging which battery on which charger route, go with the MVP cause I use my phone/Kindle/Bluetooth charger on it and can also charge in my car......very easy! again, just my :2c:
