You're not the only one, I do have Microsoft Security Essentials installed however.

ECF requires two simple things to function... an updated browser and javascript! There is no use of Flash or Java on this site.

Antivirus software usually does not create problems, however firewalls and "internet security" software sometimes do. Ad-blocking extensions / software / plugins also do cause problems sometimes as well.

Problems are also more likely to crop up due to extensions / plugins versus the browser itself. Browsers do have vulnerbilities, some which are patched faster then others If you want security, uninstall java or completely stop it from running unless required. If you need / use flash, keep it updated and or use Firefox's NoScript.

Lastly be aware of where you click so that you don't stumble upon any traps, too many hazards!

I have had no problems I could possibly blame on anti-virus software. I've seen a number of posts describing things which stumped me as for the cause. But, even those don't seem to be something one could attribute to Anti-virus software.

FWIW, although I'm not fond of the AVS I currently use, it is provided at no additional cost by my ISP. I would be very nervous about running online without some kind of shield. A number of the 'issues' I've seen brought up would likely be solved by a system re-boot.

I never have any problems except when Alex or JL are having fun...

My PC is loaded with layers of security although it would probably easier to set up initially if I just used sandboxing. There is the hardware firewall in the router, Online Armor software firewall with HIPS, Avast AV, Prevx AS, odd scanners, plus secure browsers and email client (not IE or Outlook Express).

Everything is updated and purged. Use JavaRa. Do not use risky stuff like Windows Messenger or Adobe Air. Take a new hard disk image when your PC is new, copy that and add an incremental image with your apps, export all data and wipe your disk every six months and reinstall the image. Update all and you have a new clean PC.

Don't ever allow teenage kids on your PC :)
