I hope he actually reads it! Let me know what you think, and also you all should write to your Senators as well! They can only ignore you for so long!!!

Dear Senator Roy Blunt,
My name is Blah Blah. I am 26 years old, a full time student at Lutheran School of Nursing, and up until seven days ago a cigarette smoker. I smoked a pack a day for just a little over ten years with no breaks. I smoked because I needed the nicotine and mainly because I wanted to. The habit, as you probably already know through experience or just common knowledge, is the hardest to break when attempting to cease cigarette smoking. I quit smoking completely last Saturday March 5th.

I am writing to you to share with you how I did it. Electronic cigarettes were and still are the crutch that got me through it. I haven't had any desire at all for a cigarette in the past 5 days. The first two days were a little rough but the electronic cigarette got me through them. I still use nicotine but not nearly in the amounts as when I smoked cigarettes and I no longer have to worry about the extreme dangers of the increased chance to procure cancer. Thousands upon thousands of people can share with you the same experience. Another life saved, another chance given. I know with all of my heart that I get a chance to live longer and see my son grow into a man and I know that if anything should prevent that from happening, it surely would not be cigarettes.

This is a very important subject Senator and cannot be looked away from. The FDA wants to ban electronic cigarettes. I am sure with all curtains and lies aside, you know the REAL reason why. It is important that we as a race try and find out all possible ways to preserve humanity and cigarette smoking has killed enough of us. We need to make a stand. A stand against the FDA and whomever else is against the preservation of human life!

I don't know if you'll ever get to see this letter personally. It is in my greatest hopes that whomever if anyone that reads this takes this topic into serious consideration. If not you Senator Blunt, who will stand up for us Missourians in the battle of the preservation of human life?! I hope at the very least whomever reading this letter will further their own education on electronic cigarettes or advise those who do smoke to do so. Thank you and God Bless!

I want to write something similar, but I live in Michigan. I think we are a bit busy turning into an imperial state than worrying about smoking. Go watch the Rachel meadow clip on Michigan if you havnt seen what our governer is doing.

Can you provide a link? I am having trouble finding a Rachel Meadow, I found a Rachel Maddow but nothing on e-cigs.

ATTENTION VAPORS OF NEW YORK!!! THIS AN URGENT MESSAGE!!!
Bill A01468 has made it through to the Health Committee!!!

The bill: Prohibits the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors; prohibits distribution
or sale of any item containing or delivering nicotine that is not defined by
law as a tobacco product or approved by the United States food and drug
administration for sale as a tobacco use cessation or harm reduction product.

Use this link http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ew-york-sales-ban-next-steps.html#post2558697 to find out what you can do to prevent this from happening! It's important!

AWESOME Levitas!!

I am a senior BSN nursing student. Only 60 days to graduation!!! WOO HOO! Congrats on picking an awesome career. :)

I also live in Missouri. We attended MONA in Jeff City back on Feb. 22nd. We had to advocate for all of the nursing policies that MONA wants to pass this year. So, being the outspoken little spitfire that I am, I decided that since I had access to my representative at the Capital that day, I was gonna speak out on behalf of ecigs. Wrote up a short blurb on a "call card", APA cited it, and included it with my MONA "call cards". I actually got an email from his secretary the next day thanking me for supporting a "smoke free show me state" and would research the effectiveness of ecigs. Who knows how far my Rep will go with it, or if he will do anything with the info I gave him, but I figured I did my little part that day!

I just finished up my capstone clinical in a cardiac critical care unit. We do high risk cath/pacemaker/vascular surgeries on my unit. EVERY patient was either a smoker or a smoker and diabetic. When I saw a 38 year old being cathed, I did my pre-op education with him and discovered he smokes 3 packs per day. I whipped out my PV and went to work educating him. I handed him the info about ECF and told him to research it and make the change. Hopefully he decided to check this forum out.

Now, how can we find a way to make NANDA approve an ecig nursing diagnoses list.......... :p

Best of luck with school!! How much nursing school do you have left?

Excellent work by the way! Every little step is moving us towards a brighter future. A future where our freedom and our right to enjoy a nicotine alternative will not be compromised. You've made me smile today.

I have a relatively decent amount since I am still doing my pre-nursing classes, lol. It's a 3-year program (the 1st being all pre-nursing courses of course) and since I had no prior college credits, here I am! I actually just started the program in Janurary. I thought I would have intense trouble with school because I'm 26 and haven't been in a classroom in 8 years. But, surprisenly, I am doing quite well. 2nd in class with a 3.9 GPA (Midterm Report Card) but I am fighting to be #1, lol! J/K, I'm just happy to be in school. It's great learning new stuff! Anyways, to answer your question, about 6 weeks left in this semester. I'll take 1 class in the summer (abnormal psychology) and then 16 more weeks in the fall, THEN 2 years of straight nursing. Soooo, a little while, lol!

WAY TO GO!!! I am so proud of you!!! I am 34 and went back to school when I was 29. I joke with my super young classmates that I am the "old fart/mother hen" of the group. lol!! I think older adults that return to the classroom have a greater success rate because we have lived life, partied, sowed our wild oats so to speak. While there are adult responsibilities that make it trying at times (car payments, mortgages, married, kids) there is also a different level of perseverence that helps us get through it. You are doing such a great job!! Keep that nose to the grind stone and believe it or not, nursing school flies by so fast!!

My program is 5 semesters of all nursing craziness! The only non-nursing courses we take during the formal nursing program are pathophys and pharmacology. Loved pharm, patho just about kicked my ... a few times!! Med Surg makes patho make more sense though thank goodness.

Nursing is by far the most difficult yet most rewarding thing I have ever done!! When you sit with a dying patient, or watch a mom push for 4 hours and she finally gets to see her new son/daughter, or when you have someone tell you thank you for making me a little less scared, you walk out of that hospital with your head high and a level of pride that I just cannot describe! It is almost borderline magical!

I graduate Magna Cum Laude May 14th. I am in the middle of critical care class, doing interviews, and trying to not let senior-itis kick in too badly!! 59 more days!! Believe it or not, I quit smoking 3 days before fall semester started. I don't know if I was delusional, insane, or crazy motivated to kick this damn tobacco habit. But I did it. Smoked my last analog on August 22nd, 2010, and I have never looked back. Vaping has TRULY saved my life, and kept me from ever smoking a cigarette again. Oh, and as if I haven't stressed myself out enough this spring, I decided to sit for the NCLEX a week BEFORE graduation rather than waiting til after. Kansas lets you NCLEX anytime after April 15th, so I am getting my KS license so I can NCLEX sooner. I seriously think I have gone bat $*it crazy sometimes. lol I guess this is a true testament to how successful vaping is if you just make your mind up to commit to it and quit smoking.

You are doing a PHENOMENAL job!!! If you have ANY questions at all, get frustrated, hit a mental brick wall, need a little cheering up, or just wanna have someone to share the good news and joys of this experience with, PM me anytime!! Your passion for school and tobacco cessation will take you to great and wonderful places. :)
