This thread has peaked my curiosity and prompted me to take a few measurements.
This is a sampling of devices
on hand. This is a small sampling where I don't have other brands of VV-VW devices for comparison.
It is not meant to be a reference for ALL 510 connector depths or the ability of any one atty to function on any of the devices listed. In other words, don't read into this more than what is written. ;-)
- 7 Innokin devices. 1 SVD, 3-3.0s, 2-MVP 1 & 2, 1-134. Every 510 atty I own that I might normally use on an iTaste device, I have test fired, and will fire on any of these devices. No attys below 1.5Ω.
- 11 mechanical devices. All came with or I've modified to have adjustable center pins and have been measured as used. Some attys will have a gap while others will sit flush. All attys work with all mechs tested. Attys sub-ohm to 2.0Ω
- Attys used include a variety of Boge and Ikenvape cartos (in 3V and IBT tanks), Kanger Protank 2, Innokin iClear 30, Anyvape Davide and assorted RDA and RBA devices, some with adjustable 510 pins, which were not re-adjusted for this test. No eGo threaded attys were used, as they could not be tested on any but two of the mechanical devices.
Using a Mitutoyo .0005" "Absolute" digital caliper, depth measurements are taken from the 510 center pin to the top surface of the 510 collar. 3 measurements per device and averaged:
Innokin. Depths from .1685" to .1715"... for an average of .1700" or 4.31mm.
Mechanicals. Depths from .1265" to .1440"... for an average of .1355" or 3.44mm.
What this tells us is:
- Of the Innokin devices I have available to me, consistency of 510 pin depth is quite good... however, I do not know what their specification or tolerance range is.
- The Innokin products MAY have unusually deep 510 center pins... but only when compared to 11 mechanical devices.
- All the attys I normally use on Innokin products ALL sit flush to their respective 510 collars.
- All my mechs seem to be set rather shallow, but... all the attys I normally use on them fit flush to near flush.
- It appears that of all the devices and attys at my disposal, with a grand 510 connector depth range of .1265" to .1717" (.045"/1.14mm)... the fact that everything (I've tested and within reason) works on everything... indicates a very wide range of "tolerance forgiveness" on the part of the 510 connector system as a whole.
- If an atty does not fire on a device - assuming both parts are in (otherwise) good working order, it can be presumed that the tolerance of each part of the 510 system would have to be (at minimum) at the extreme end of their respective ranges, or out of their respective tolerance range, or otherwise damaged from abuse and/or misuse.
- I could probably stand to fine tune the 510 pins on my mechs a bit better.

Perhaps later I will measure the 33 510 attys I have available to me.
That's it.
