Hello everyone :)

just joined as am new to vaping, like really new. I got a realis starter kit, which I hated, so have just got a riva 510 with cartomisers and am using tobacco flavoured 18mg VG liquid (the realis kit gave me headaches and I figured it was the PG liquid, but what do I know) the trouble I have is that when I draw and take the vapour into my lungs it is so harsh, like I've smoked 20 cigarettes in row, anybody have any ideas as to why?

I've taken really tiny little draws and it's better, but this is a very strange way to vape

appreciate any help from you seasoned vapers...

Do you mean its harsh with the VG liquid? Cause PG can be harsh and VG normally helps dull dome of the "bite" of the nicotine. What mg liquid is it? It could also be that the nic level is too high.

When you take a hit, try holding it in your mouth for a second and then slowly inhaling it into your lungs

Couple things that might help. One is if its PG you might try a juice with more VG in it as some are sensitive to one or the other. Two is when you vape you don't really do it like you would smoke a cigarette. Pull the vapor into your mouth, then inhale it. There is also a chance that your carto isn't staying wet and you are getting dry hits which can definitely burn. What ohm rating are the cartomizers that you are using, maybe a higher resistance would produce a cooler vape that would be less irritating.

Thanks for the help, I'll try the drawing method you suggested and see if that's any better. I'm not sure what ohm is, I'll have a look on the site I bought it from and see if it says anything about that. As far as the cart staying wet, it was harsh from the very start, after I had filled it for the first time (and I got a mouthful of liquid which was most unpleasant )

Hello & welcome Pegotty from another Uker :)

Rob & J808 are right, don't direct inhale the vapour, hold it in your mouth for a second or so :)

Where are you buying your juices from? I know of several UK vendors that will mix them to how you prefer.

Using vg in your liquid makes it a bit thick, so when you fill for the 1st time let your carto sit for about 5 mins to let it all soak in nice and wet. Also at the beginning of your vaping life, you need to drink lots of water, the vapor does dry out your mouth and throat so always keep a bottle of water handy. This gets less important the longer you vape for, you get used to the texture.

Thanks for the welcome my fellow UKer :)

I got three different ones from liberty flights, they are just VG liquid, I didn't know you could mix them? or why you would? Do people switching generally do so quite easily? I have to say I'm getting a tad disheartened...I was sure it would be nice and easy :(

Thanks for the info CCC, I have a fresh cart sitting at the moment and will try that with the new draw method...I have a diet coke to hand, does that count? :?:

Please don't get disheartened Peggotty. What I meant was that some suppliers make (mix) their own e-liquid & others sell juices made by expert "mixers" in the UK. here's a couple of links to 2 of my fave juice suppliers - when ordering from them, you can request your preference VG/flavour /nicotine content etc. -

Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid

Paradise Vape UK

And here is a list of several other really good UK suppliers - most of them are registered suppliers here on ECF -

J808 is giving you the best advice, IMO, peggotty. I was having the same problem as you, until I finally figured out that the voltage and the cartomizer or vaporizer needs to be matched. If the voltage is too high for the cartomizers impedence (ohms), then it will be too hot when you draw. If the voltage is too low for the cartomizers impedence (ohms), it will be too cool when you draw.

I built a "PUCK" that the member on ECF Puck was kind enough to show us all how (Thanks very much Puck!) to do. 808 cartomizers and a 901 vaporizer seemed to work on 4 AAA batteries, but were still a little too hot for my liking. I also burned out the coil on a 901 clearomizer, and cooked another one. By the time I built my 3rd "PUCK", I decided to bypass one of the batteries. That dropped the voltage, and made the draw cooler!

Here is a table you can use to get you started;

Hope this helps, Handyman
