Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I'm 21, been on the e-cig for close to 7 months now...originally had a "Smoking Everywhere" super-mini and drip like mad. Recently got a Titan PCC kit, adapter, and a new super-mini atty...best combo ever!

Here's my problem...I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow, and the doctor said no smoking/vaping/sucking on anything for a week afterwards. I'm still vaping the 24mg strength fluid. If I go a couple hours without the stuff, I start to get really bad cravings. Going a week without smoking anything? I'll probably go nuts. My addiction is partially oral fixation, partially nicotine addiction.

I'm thinking of getting the nicotine patch. What strength should I get? Where (on my body) should I put it? I've heard the inside of the arm, side of the neck, right on the chest. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

i am not a doctor nor anyway qualified to make medical judgements

That being said:

jr.. the reason the doc tells you to not smoke or drink from a straw etc... is due to clots forming in the hole/crevice left from the absense of your newly pulled wisdom teeth.

the reasoning behind this is that the clots could become dislodged and bleeding would begin... and profusely from what ive heard..

I had my wisdom teeth pulled almost 2 years ago at the age of 28... i was smoking cigs later that day.. though i was super careful to draw on the cig extremely lightly. I do not advise that you try to do the same. I was extremely ... reckless.. in doing so.

As far as the patch is concerned.. head down to your local pharm and read the product labels.. from what i recall there is "step down" chart which should tell you your dosage based on an amount of cigs you do/used to smoke.

side note: after your op.. ask for your teeth back... i asked for mine and they said no i couldnt have them... now i grew those myself.. took me 28 years.. i wanted em back.. guess you can see im still bitter about it..

Good luck. with your procedure.

Yeah, I was the same way when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I was smoking later in the day (smoking back then). As was said above, if you choose to smoke, be extremely careful. The blood clots dislodging could give you something called "dry socket"--you do not want this. When you go to the dentist, ask him (or her) what it is.

Good idea on the patch.

Also, you gettin' the gas? Last time I went, they had flavored gas. That blew my mind.

all I can say is this ... DO NOT ignore the instructions and smoke, vape etc.

I will tell you a bit of a story ... I had my wisdoms out and the ignored doctor. I was going to the beach that weekend with a bunch of friends and planned on hanging out drinking etc. plus I had a full bottle of painkillers... lets just say I was incredibly irresponsible and snuck a few smokes here and there with my drink and pill cocktails (don't flame me, this is not advisable behavior, I do not recommend this behavior to anyone as it is very dangerous). Within 48 hours I wanted to freaking DIE!! No amount of prescription painkillers could even touch the case of dry socket I had going on. while my friends had a grand beach vacation I found myself seeking out a doc in the box and all they could do was give me some nasty clove tasting stuff... it doesn't help much. It's not worth it... use the patch but don't cheat !

Thats is! "Dry Socket" trust zenfrogs advice.. you DO NOT want dry socket, i have never expeirenced it myself.. but i hear its bloody miserable.. says the guy that had a back operation cause a ruptured disc made me damn near paralyzed.

Dry Socket: Alveolar osteitis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Speak with the pharmascist on duty at your local drug store regarding the nico patches.. he/she will be able to best direct you.

I had dry socket too... took months to clear up! When you get dry socket they put stripes of clove oil soaked gauze into the holes to help clear it up. So EVERYTHING you eat or drink tastes like cloves. Now I have a brain connection for pain = cloves. :p

On another note, I just had my tonsils out two weeks ago and I have been a happy little vaper during my recovery. Started nic fitting the day after the surgery and found the vaping to not cause any additional pain. After I had my wisdom teeth out I didn't even want to smoke for 3 or 4 days.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm gunna try the patch...strongest one they have.

I heard about the dry socket sitting in the waiting room, reading a pamphlet or whatever it was. Immediately, I was like "oh, ....." I'm not even gunna try to smoke for the first few days...not worth the risk. Paying for all of this out of pocket.

In reply to $hua, I value the opinions of the people here (especially the literate ones) over the opinions of most doctors out there.

well I had three back teeth pulled all at the same time and I smoked after a couple of hours, now I didn't enhale hard just very softly and kind of eased the smoke down no sucking like a straw. Didn't have any problems but was very careful with it. I don't remember the Doctor telling me to not smoke for a week but it has been 15 years since then

There are some here who have vaped through their nose.
I guess I would try it if I were desperate.
I did get a dry socket after my wisdom teeth were removed.
They put a big curved needle in the hole to inject it with novocaine.
I thought they were poking my eye out from the inside.

you got novocaine??? seriously??

clearly your dentist has more compassion than mine did...mine just looked at me like "serves you right, you dirty smoker" and sent me on my way if the guy was my regular dentist I would fire him! though the thought of a needle going near dry socket is enough to make me hide under my bed....

something called "dry socket"--you do not want this.

Oh this is the worst pain in the world. OMG I delivered 3 babies with no pain meds and would rather do that again then have "dry socket"

I would not suggest trying to vape at all for the first day or so, because unlike smoking you have to drag longer and thus creating more suction.
