I think it should be a Christmas thing, just my 2 cents. I'm already tired of seeing the Christmas creep in stores earlier and earlier.
OMG I know.....i give it a month...I already seen ornaments in gardenridge last week!!!! Stresses my right out!!!

I like the idea of a Secret Santa. My thoughts (which echo many of yours, and I'm not trying to claim your idea's as my own) on how it should be run:

  1. Create a Sign-up thread.
  2. In the Sign-up thread, each person who wants to be involved should post their equipment, what they like, don't like, and things they want.
  3. Set a Limit. If people want to go over it... so be it. But no one will be required to spend X amount if they don't want, or can't afford too.
  4. The person running the Secret Santa should use some random method of picking who gets whom.

The biggest problem I see is making the secret part of the secret Santa a secret to the person running the Secret Santa. (Secret! Just wanted to say Secret 5--er now 6 times in this paragraph.) ;) Possible Solutions:

  • The Person running the Secret Santa doesn't get or receive gifts. (Boo! No fun)
  • Pick someone else to coordinate the selection of a gift for the person doing all the selecting. As in we can pitch all in and send something to the coordinator.
  • It just won't be a secret.
  • (Your better idea here.)

My parting thought is this: When dealing with a multiple choice question, with answers "a-d," statistically the answer is "d" 25% of the time.

Title changed. That was the easy part!

I figure when the time comes we make a thread entitled "Post What you vape" and then we can say "I vape a 510 but I use a mod so don't need batteries. I like 24mg juice and prefer a sweet vape. My favorite color is blue." Then when you get your Secret Santa, you find their post, and you know what they like/use! Ez pz. And if one doesn't post.. well.. then they get what they get.

Good idea

We have everyone that wants to partake post everything they currently use and vape that would take care of anyone getting things they wouldnt be able to use. Do we want a cap on how much can be sent or leave it to user discretion? and yea I think most of us would send/receive gifts that the mailman would hate us for lol.

Definitely need a maximum limit. We can discuss that a little closer to Christmas time when we all have a better idea of what our budget is going to be for gifts.

I would say there probably SHOULD be a max ($30-40 maybe?) $$ spent, but no minimum (as not to exclude anyone new, or short on cash)

I would figure whoever sets it up would just take PMs from anyone wishing to sign up, and the PMs would include what mg you vape, flavor type/color preference, what PV you use maybe? and any special info like PG allergies or whatever and that info would be sent to a random other person who signed up :D

Another good idea.

Great way of pulling it together.

I am pretty sure there won't be a problem with this. But, you all are going to have to find someone a lot more organized than I am to run it. I am terrible with paperwork and keeping track of things like this. Always have been. Let me know when you come up with a solid plan and who will be running it and I will take it to the other mods.

I've been involved in a couple of online secret santa festivities. I know we used elfster.com for one, I'll have to look through old emails to find the other. Looks like there is another one at secretsanta.com. Because this group is so big (along with very big hearts!), it might be easiest to have one of more groups with say 24 or 48 in each, and then have one manager of each group?

Awesome idea!!!! Now that my mom passed other than my puppy and a couple of close friends I don't have anyone to buy for. Kinda makes for a sad holiday!!!! LOVE THIS IDEA
awwww... so sorry kellie.. i lost my mom almost 5 yrs ago on the 15th.:(..

That's an interesting idea. There could be an under $20 group, and a $20-40 group, or something like that. Each person could just join the group in their amount range.

Those are GREAT ideas. I think have the different maximum amounts would really work well, especially with newer members that are just starting out.

I also would like to add that it would be fun to have this running for a little while, so that you could plan to send several packages to your SS if you wanted. I think it would be fun to plan it so that every day for a week someone would get something in the mail. Or something along those lines anyway, just a thought.

Also, great ideas everyone!

excellent ideas for Christmas and secret santa's.. y'all are killin me! I haven't even finished school clothes shoppin' for the kids and now we're thinkin' about Santa's hahaha.. this is terrible! Good to have in the back of my mind, but it's August, right? it all moves so fast! I've seen Halloween and Thanksgiving stuff at the stores already, for the last two weeks, even..

But there are all very good ideas here.. especially the one where we'd be divided into somewhat "smaller" groups to keep confusion at a minimum. All great ideas!

Now.. if you'll excuse me, I think I am gonna go have a popsicle in my flip flops out in the 90 degree weather evening :p

well that's y it's being talked about now isn't it? that way from the time it's organized till about a week or so b4 x-mas (to give presents time to get there in time) to plan things out, find out who u'd b SS to and then do what u could to shop for them - even if planning took ages u'd still have at least a whole month i'd imagine.

Well I guess that IS why it's being talked about. Looks like I am Captain Obvious today. :p
