I have a lot of time on my hands, I find a lot of it spent on this forum and casaa.org...

I feel the need to do something, but where should I start? A local vendor and myself have started to work together on trying to get a local place to meet and have a face to face, but I want more.

I wanna do all I can to help further the knowladge and aceptance of this device which most undiniably has the power to save lives. Any tips are welcomed, what are some of you doing in your area? I feel I have gained so much I want to give more back than I am, I just dont know where to begin.

I see you have both Florida and NYC listed as your location. Right now, probably the biggest and most important challenge of all is the pending NYC regulation that would amend the smoking ban to include ecigs. If you do have free time, please consider working on that. If NYC does do this, it would be a terrible precedent and a damaging blow to all vapers throughout the US!

I guess you've seen the CASAA call to action page on that? CASAA.org

Why not start by contacting the City Council Health Committee members personally, trying to get face to face meetings with them, and carrying our message that they should either reject outright this proposal, or at the very least hold a public hearing and consult with non-biased experts (think Dr. Siegel, Dr. Nitzkin, etc) so they can be informed on the issue before going any further with it based on the lies and misinformation they've been given so far?

SD, Kemp Hannon is the Chair of the New York State Senate Health Committee. We need people to work on the statewide bill that would outlaw sales of ecigs, yes.

But, the proposed New York City legislation, including ecig use in its comprehensive smoking ban (even including outdoor locations now), is the one I was referring to here. And the link I gave you above goes to the separate Call to Action page about that.

If New York City passes this proposal, it would likely have a devastating ripple effect on other jurisdictions. It MUST be stopped.

For you guys wanting to do more. CASAA has meetings every other Sunday evening. Info usually posted in CASAA subforum here on ECF. You can keep up on the lastest states that need letters, phone calls, etc. Also can volunteer to do more if you're able :) Would love to see more get involved there.

Also, if you're in an area where there aren't local meets yet, consider starting a local group. First meet I went to was just a handful of people and it has snowballed into a bigger group here in FL. There are many forums you can post about your local meet, local subforums here. Can also add it to the calendar on Vapersplace. Many people in our group drive from other areas too. You might be surprised and shake some vapers out of the woodwork in your areas as well. Find a vape friendly place and make a date... see what happens. If any of you guys start a group and want more advertising PM me and I'll post in on IVC, tweet it, shout it from rooftops lol. Meetups are a wonderful thing!!

Related question:

A recent article in an area paper mentions the all to oft statement: "...sending the wrong message to the children," in regards to allowing e-cig use in public places. Although I won't even go into the whole 'for the sake of the children' bit, I am curious:

How do you respond to "allowing vaping is sending the wrong message to the children" routine?
