Today is my 5yr old's first day of school and I am a hot mess. Sending a child to school for the first time is stressful for every parent, but for a stay at home parent sending a kid away to school is almost unbearable. I haven't been this emotional since my Mom passed away last year, which I find to be very odd. If I can make it through today without a cigarette, I have a feeling that I will have the strength to stay smoke free. Although, I have a feeling that I will be a vaping fool today.

Congratulations!

I think I know what you mean. Recently I received a phone call informing me that someone I've known and loved for almost 30 years is dying of cancer. I did NOT light one up even though I still have cigarettes in my house. I vaped like a fiend, of course, but still...

That's very tragic. I am so sorry. Though it is wonderful to hear that, in a time of such intense sadness, you didn't fall off the proverbial wagon!

Awww :( When my daughter first started school I was pretty upset too. Hang in there!
Vapo Marx, sorry to read about the bad news.
Here's the thing, cigarettes are going to be in the back of your mind. It's an addiction, and your brain remembers the good feeling. The longer you go the easier it gets. It's been almost a year, and when things get rough...having a smoke will cross my mind. Not as often though. I try to check in on the forum during those days. It's a good distraction, and everyone here is pretty understanding. Feel free to PM me if you need to vent :)

I remember my 8 year old son's first day...I get what you're saying lol. Rough day, putting them on a bus and shipping them off into the world. My 2 year old daughter is going to start daycare the 26th of this month and I'm sure it will be the same feeling. Maybe today is a good day to crack into something time consuming.

As far as smoking today...don't you dare.

Let me know if you need some heavy handed words of encouragement..;)

Is this your first child? I had the worries with my first one but not with my last one.

Actually this is my #2 out of 3. The first one wasn't a huge deal because I was working at the time (also, he's 18 so I hardly remember), but my 5yr old is my little buddy. It's because of him (actually the intervention that he led) that I quit smoking. I'm still home with my 3yr old, so it gives me the opportunity to focus on him. Today has gone really well though, despite the occasional fit of weeping . All of the words of encouragement have been greatly appreciated.

This site is a great boon for those of us that have quit smoking. It's nigh impossible to get people who have never smoked to understand that, though we're cognizant of the destruction that cigarettes cause, it's hard not to think about smoking during times of emotional duress. Though I take great pride in the fact that I quit, I give a great deal of credit to this site and its unbelievably supportive community. Again, I thank you all.
