If new pres starts to like these, he can tell FDA to back down.

one of Obama's advisers is William V Corr, a vocal tobacco-control activist at the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids who publicly attacked the Bush administration in 2006 for weakening the government's prosecution of tobacco companies and its chances for regulating tobacco.

Now he is making recommendations for strengthening the Food and Drug Administration's regulation of millions of other grocery and drugstore products, though apparently he has recused himself from discussing tobacco.

Still, if you were to bend someone's ear about it, he probably has the best ear to bend as he might not be susceptible to tobacco lobbying, though perhaps that is why he has/was disqualified (himself) from talking about it.

You know .. I'm being serious here .. our cause might should be presented for the environmental benefits as well as the health benefits. Kaston posted some great information the other day on the cost of tobacco products on the environment. Smokers make a mess.

Maybe if no one cares if we have a healthier way to get our daily doses of nicotine, they might just care that some endangered frog doesn't swallow and choke on a Marlboro filter! Our credo: Butts Out! Dew it for Mother Earth.

He smoked three cigarettes a day. Hardly hard-core. Do not expect him to align himself with a strange Chinese metal tube used by nicotine addicts. This is not realistic.

Yep, besides not really being a hardcore smoker, if he did want to take these up they would be tested to the nth degree for anything dangerous, which we already know nicotine is.
The result could be similar to AU and they declare the juice a poison.

Not making light of your point TB, just really appreciate your prose.:thumb:

I agree wholeheartedly with your statements. However, I am perhaps too much of a pessimist. Given this country's penchant for legislating morality I really don't believe there is an angle which will convince our politicians to keep their hands off this one.

For example, the environmental angle is out the window because simply banning tobacco use altogether "solves" the problem. As evidenced by the "war on drugs" I really don't think we have learned our lesson from prohibition. Jails and cemeteries seem to be much more acceptable than addiction in our culture.

if we were to take the "saving the environment" tack, you can bet their will be be plenty of counter claims against PVD's (portable vaporizing devices ;)). i would say a lot of gick gets made from extracting nicotine and pg that is probably damaging and seeping into the earth right now. plus, there is the batteries which if not disposed of correctly are harmful and probably a bunch of other stuff that i couldn't even begin to calculate but I bet the tobacco lobbies would if we went in that direction. still, it might be a worthwhile aside but probably not.
