The answer to this has been posted several times: MONEY. Taxes went up on cigarettes sold in Hong Kong. Within days, e-cigs were declared illegal and arrests were made to drive home the government's intent. Even some brain-dead posters on this forum can connect those dots ...

"Brain-dead posters", TBob? Here? Some mistake surely...:)

Well Hong Kong is only a part of China on paper. It's really an island off the coast of China that is mainly self regulated. They have their own currency, own politics, own legal system, and even have their own policies on immigration. So while even though technically a part of China they really are not.
Sort of like Tibet!! Tibet is in China, yet it has a different set of rules to adhere to.

Correct me if I am wrong?

Well technically you're not wrong. There's been an ongoing argument over whether Tibet is a part of China or if it is an independent country. It's really hard to say. I know that Wiki says that today parts of Tibet are controlled and included into China's constitution while parts of it are controlled by India. Talk about a place with an identity crisis. Also their government is called "The Government of Tibet in Exile." Kind of odd if you ask me.

Actually Buddha was from Nepal. As for Hong Kong being treated the same way that I really couldn't tell you. I just know that they have their own government and legal system which is different then that of China.
What I meant was that The 'Dalai Lama' is centered in Tibet!!

I believe they are manifestations of the Buddha..

I'd like to say you've made a big mistake and will hurt the feelings of Chinese people if you say so. Chinese government possesses absolute sovereignty over Special Administrative Regions like HK and Macao; but offers a high degree of autonomy to the governments of these special regions, like they can have their own currency, laws (if not incompatible to the central laws), even their own social systems (capitalism & socialism). The leaders of these regions are native and elected by the local people, but he need to get an approval and report his work to the central government every year during the People's Congress. Second, these special regions have their own Justice systems, but it's not allowed to own their TROOPS. So this sovereignty is not just on paper. Not even because it's off the coast of China.

You should live in Tibet for a certain time and try to hear the voices of the local people, then post your OWN opinion. Not from the WIKI or REPORTS from so-called news agency.

My thoughts are inherited from the readings about Tibet and the way the Chinese government treats them and others that choose a religious belief!

My ex-girlfriend is from Shenyang, she says that those in China who choose not be athiest are automatically considered peasants and do not reap the full benefits that the Chinese govornment as Chinese citizens.

Correct me if she was wrong?

Regarding the religion, what written in Chinese constitution is "EVERY CITIZEN HAS HIS FREEDOM OF CHOOSING BEING RELIGIOUS OR NOT ". But for the evil cults like FALUNGONG, organised by LEE HONGZHI, which is under the cover of RELIGIOUS, but dose great harm to the whole society and human beings, then every government will take methods to end this.

China is becoming opener and opener with her development, all you guys are welcome to visit China, and then give candid comments on what you see.

I am an ordinary people, just graduated from university this June. Not religious, no communist either. But inherit nature from my ancestors, like other many many Chinese people. This nature sustains the Chinese civilization for thousands of years.

My girlfriend was the same as you jiuyueguizi in her political and religious views.

I am very relieved to hear of your countries direction with the concept of openness :)

Also, I appreciate your education to us with Hong Kong's political position to Mainland China. That sounds like progression vs. oppression to me;-)
