I got an IGO-L and built a coil 1.9 ohms with silica wick. Using it on an iTaste VV 3 and I get very little vapor production at low watts/volts and it tastes like crap on the higher ohms/volts. There really isn't a middle ground. The wick is saturated and there's some in the base too. I'm not getting this dripping stuff lol :glare: Anything anyone can think of to help it would be appreciated.

I'd try rebuilding it in various ways: with more or fewer coils, with cotton rather than silica, and maybe even with micro coils. You can find lots of instructional videos on YouTube.

The IGO-L is actually very easy to build because of its size, and you can learn a lot about RDAs by trying different stuff on it. It's not difficult, but there is a learning curve.

Good luck. :)

Is it an airy draw, or a tight-draw? (like slow pull, or fast)

Also, what gauge wire? Give example of "middle of the road" voltage you are using, please.

Its a light draw, 30ga Vaporwire and been running it mostly on watts and 6 watts it tastes ok but no vapor. Any high it doesn't taste good. Might just have to try different coils and such. I didn't wrap the wire around the wick I used a drill bit to wrap it then used a extra piece of kanthal to drag the wick thru.

After you put the wick in the coil did you do a dry burn before you added your juice? Sometimes there's oils or something on coils/wick that can give you a nasty taste. I also found that on RDA's cotton works and tastes so much better. I also have an igo L and I used silica on my first build. Every build I've done after that I've been using cotton. If you do switch to cotton use organic cotton. So much cheaper also.

I use an IGO-I with cotton and microcoils. It's my go to unit at home and wish it was easier to travel around town with. Check out the atomizer sub forums for more info. It really is a nice little unit.
I use cotton and micro-coils on IGOs too, and absolutely love them. They also work great with standard coils and cotton yarn, which is even simpler.

i'll show you my build and maybe it'll help. (i guess im a visual learner...or maybe just slow) hahaha!

but Kropotkin said it best. youtube has a TON of how-to's and tutorials with tips and tricks to get the best vape to suit your needs.

but i have a 28g twisted kanthal microcoil.(thats a whole other thread, but you can get the idea...i hope....KIDDING!) i used a 1/16 drill bit to wrap.

with 9 wraps, threaded some medical-grade cotton gauze thru, and vapes like a charm with no sacrifice in flavor or vapor production.

i'm running a mechanical mod with an slightly used 18650 battery, so its putting out maybe somewhere between 3.2-3.5v??

and heres vapor production.

I don't really do micro coils but what I do is wrap my wire around a allen wrench and then take it off the wrench and heat with a lighter for about 10 seconds. I put it back on the wrench and mount the coil on the IGO and slip it off the wrench.. After I check my resistance and make sure everything is heating properly I slip a small length of cotton through and wet it thoroughly.

This way I can easily replace the cotton without having to do a whole new build.

OK, but maybe as an exercise, focus on the OP's build. Not micorcoil. Not cotton. Etc.

Is the wick real loose? Is the wicking wet enough? Have you tried dripping directly onto the coil and putting the cap on? Plugging part of the air hole with tape to reduce it?

Basically there's 3 things...I call them the "Three W's"
- Wicking - has to flow to the wick well, and the wick can't be choked and the coil has to touch the wick well.
- Watts - the heat has to be correct
- Wind - (Air flow)...too much and it's airy and thin, too little and it doesn't work. Has to flow over coil.

The doubled over wick with a coil wrapped around it, well saturated, with the air hole in the right place should work. 6 watts is low for 30 ga wire IMO. Also, additional burning at higher watts indicates a wicking issue.

youre right. ive said this before. but i tend to get some ADD-type effects when i start to type. haha. (no offense to those actually diagnosed with it...hahaha) but youre right, i got side-tracked and a little advanced, i guess you could say.

the best i could do to add to AttyPops is youtube...hah.
collect as much info as you can and try em out. i've noticed when it comes to vaping, as it does many other topics, it all comes down to personal preference. some like an airy draw, some like a tight draw. some like a cool vape, some like a warmer vape. etc.

Yeah, I'm not being critical. You guys are sharing your successes with him and want him to succeed! I totally get that. And it's cool.

But he may not have cotton around and/or not want to do a micro-coil right now. So I thought I'd focus on what he has.

Another thing, OP, look at Jawden's pic above. Note that he has wicking touching the bottom. The juice floats around on that deck. If the coil is too high up, and wick too far away or not touching, it may not wick well. Try pushing the oxidized coil down on the deck (and check for shorts...your device will tell you the ohms).
