1.5 ohm single coil with 28 gauge kanthal, unboiled cottonballs used as wick. Both airholes stock and open, one positioned over the coil. Could it be the fact that I didn't boil the cotton? They are just labeled as 100% pure cotton. Could also be the small airholes, but I don't own a drill atm.
Igo W, single coil, harsh hits, strange flavor. Any ideas?

I just built my first coil on an igo w. I hit it one time with those itsy bitsy holes and went downstairs to the drill press. 1.6 mm holes on both sides and she hits perty good for the coil I have on her now.
If only I had a drill press. Any chance there's another way to open up the holes?
I don't think the small air holes would give you a harsh hit or an odd taste, just a tighter draw. Could be hot spots in your coil perhaps? As far as the cotton, from what I've read from others is that only organic and sterile cotton is good to use out of bag. If your cotton is not labeled as such then I would recommend boiling it first. Hopefully those more knowledgable than I can chime in soon.
If you just got the IGO-W did you clean it well? It could be machining oil residue that is hard to get off.
Holes are probably too small. Search for the keg cap at vapordna. It's an igo-w top cap that has adjustable air flow. What nic level are you using?

High nic level sometimes causes that issue when people sub ohm, but at 1.5 you should be OK. It's got to be the stock air holes. Check out that keg cap.

I cant believe no one is looking at the obvious. no its not your airflow. that will only give you a stiff draw and more flavor at the expense of vapor production. No its not your juice. I'm sure its something you're used to and 1.5 single isn't that hot.
Your problem is a hot leg or hot spot or your wick. take the cap off and fire it. does the wire glow anywhere. take the wick out and fire it again. does the coil heat up evenly from the centre or does it go crazy? How much cotton did you use? however much you think you need use less. when I roll my wicks I take my place it in my palm and roll my hands against each other once with barely touching pressure. then I squeeze down an end to thread it. the cotton should move freely without tugging or tearing in the coil. make sure the cotton touches the whole wire from post to post, that'll kill hot legs

I actually stopped using cotton because I couldn't get a consistent vape with it. Of course...my air holes are both drilled out to 1.2mm and I went back to ekowool with 30 gauge wire.
My flavor and vapor is back to normal. I drip a little more than I did with cotton but that just tells me its vaporizing properly.
