I went out and got one yesterday.

Guy at the store threw it in the bag with a little fold up box I assumed would have kanthal and a little wicking material...

Well, it only had Kanthal. No marking for what gauge he included, I went ahead and guessed 28, (probably wrong but who cares)

So I've been going around all day looking for organic cotton balls, no luck thus far.. Will look some more tomorrow but I plan on ordering some online tonight along with some kanthal that is actually marked. Got bored today after going all over and decided to try and wrap a coil just to see if it came up all wonky when I checked the ohms. After about 5 tries that came up too low for the battery I'm using i got something that doesn't look like crap (HOORAH!) Did 10 wraps on a 2mm screwdriver shaft and hooked it up. Says 1.5 ohms, (was hoping for 2.0)

it glows nice and even, starts in the middle going out. Now if only i had an organic cotton ball to test it out with I know, it's pretty lame compared to just about anything else around here, but I'm proud, at least so far.. hoping I'll be even more proud when I finally get to vape off of the thing.


Anyway, other than a growing feeling that I do not like brick and mortar vape stores (This trip wasn't so bad. There was no markup on the Igo, cost me right around 17 dollars which is stellar imo, but the general lack of feeling cared about that I leave these places with... bleh.) I do have a couple questions.. They're definitely answered somewhere around here already, but finding the answers just seems so daunting.

1. Where is a good place to buy kanthal, and what gauge/s should I be looking to get? I'm looking to come out with coils between 1.5 and 2.5 ohms at the moment, just because of the limitations of the battery i'm on.

2. Is there any one stop internet shop where I can pick up Kanthal and organic cotton balls all in one? so i don't have to pay two shipping charges. (this seems far fetched to me.) and if so would it be worth going there over just getting them in two different places?

3. This Igo W is definitely going to need to have the air holes drilled out a bit bigger. I have a drill press, and get what i need to do, just wondering if there's anything special I'll need to account for I might not be thinking about before putting drill bit to atty cover.. and what size would be good to start with? I like mouth to lung inhales a lot..

4. If anything i did wrapping that coil above sounds stupid, or if somehow you can tell by looking that it's going to blow up in my face.. let me know please.

1)Ebay from Temco you can get a 100ft. roll for under $8.I would get 28awg,29awg,or 30awg kanthal.
2)I have not seen any organic cotton balls online for sale.I have seen cotton yarn strands but not cotton balls and not from the same seller.
3)I got mine from Captivape when they were offering custom airhole enlargement.i have dual 2.3mm airholes in my cap.I also have two caps for it on the way from Kidneypuncher,the immoralizer cap and Tatroe T-top cap from cigtech's.
4)The coil looks like it is glowing pretty even.You will love the Igo-W when you get your first vape off it,it is indeed,....a STELLAR vape.

Just go to a local drug store, buy some cotton balls, go home, throw a couple cotton balls in a coffee cup with some water, microwave on high for a couple minutes, dry a cotton ball in the microwave on a paper towel, and make some wicks.

would that really take care of all the nasty stuff in the cotton? I've been looking for organic because I keep hearing/reading that's what you need..

Shoot, Rite-aid right on the strip should have organic cotton balls.

Hell, PM me your address, I'll snail-mail you some from the gigantic-... bag I got from Rite-aid. Even with 3 women in the house, I don't think I can ever go through this much cotton.

They all had the regular cotton balls, but they're bleached right? I was really worried about making myself sick with them. And NOBODY had organic.

The common answer to that is to boil three times, changing water after each boil. Not sure how much "safer" hydrogen peroxide is over bleach, though. (HP used to whiten "organic" cotton)

Get sterile cotton balls. Like, medical ones. OR, sterile rolled cotton at CVS. I don't boil mine. Risky? Doubt it.

I boil mine but it's so easy, it's no big deal. It only takes a couple of minutes. I can boil them while I make a sandwich and dry them while I eat it.

Hey awesome choice! Love my igo. I know I bought all my kanthal (100feet) and cotton balls all off amazon. Didn't have to pay for shipping on the kanthal and the cotton balls where on prime at the time! Very nice coil you made! Didn't cost a lot under 8 for the kanthal and It was like 2 bucks for the cotton. Still having ran out of the stuff.

As for air flow. Go small and work up. Don't wanna start off with something too big you might end up hating it. Nothing to really be worried about. It's just a metal cap. Won't damage it much other then some scratches. Just don't put a don't of pressure on the cap as you make squish it.

I do recommend getting a couple different gauges of kanthal. Someone said 28, 29, 30. That's great start. I have 28, 30 and 32. Having different gauges will help you switch it up and get better at wrapping different things. Cause even if you aren't a cloud chaser you most likely will want to try your hand at some different coils.

Someone also mentioned caps above. Recommend picking up a few caps. They add some "style" but you can have different airflow settings. So you can mess around more with flavor and vape.

Igo-w is an amazing Little bugger! Great to get you comfortable with almost anything when it comes to rebuilding. Don't be afraid to experiment. Don't worry about it blowing up in your face. Just don't wrap sub ohm coils for now until you got it down and fully understand wrapping coils and such.

Most importantly have tons of fun an enjoy!

I am completely oblivious as to what the chemicals are that compromise the GCAS _food_ flavorings that I willingly inhale into my lungs.

I'm not going to be picky about what may or may not have been used to treat cotton balls.

thank you everyone, i feel like a fool for spending so much time looking for the organic balls. Oh well, finally got some cotton, got a wick set up and got this thing vaping. I also set up the drill press with a couple clamps and opened up the air hole to 1.6 mm. It's not exactly "chuckin the vapor" but it's doing as good of a job at it as my protank ever has and the flavor is insane. I'm vaping on juicy peach from TFA 50/50.. It is delicious. I can taste it so much better than i did before.

i have a feeling im going to LOVE this whole rebuilding thing. thanks for the help guys

thank you dd. Last night was torture. I sat here looking at it and kicking myself all night for not just grabbing a bag of cotton balls somewhere, or at the very least stopping at one of the b&m shops and grabbing some silica. So I grabbed some on my way home today. Got home and I boiled them 3 times, 15 minutes each time, dried a few out in the microwave like you were saying on the other page and ran to what is quickly becoming my vape room and put it together.

I've already mixed 2 flavors (some Bavarian cream/dulce de leche and some chocolate/coffee/flue cured tobacco) The first is super yummy, the second is missing something.. not quite sure what yet. After mixing quite a few and having to use my tanks to test them with this is incredible.

Now I'm already thinking about how I would go about setting up a duel coil on this that would work on the pv I'm using.

I'm also wanting to update my PV super ... bad.. I'm just lost in the sea of possibilities. I'll probably go start another thread now to ask about all that.

Just get a cheap mech clone to start with. After you have the batteries, charger, and a meter for coils you can upgrade the mech if you like.
