 I'm just speechless.
And you even have FAMILY up there! I'm so sorry!

That's pretty crazy, right? If I were willing to go to the embassy again, it might take weeks, but I could obtain a waiver. It's actually my ex-wife's family up there. It would be nice to pay them a visit sometime, but they were in laws. I have been in Canada at least 50 times, and have some good friends in Montreal and Toronto.

The lesson here is if they interview you, just lie. They have no way to check on stuff like this. Now if you are a convicted felon, that info they might have, but not for something like an old DWI. Just lie. I am often too honest for my own good.

I am banned for life from even entering Canada. In 1980 I had a driving while impaired conviction in NY. (I blew a 0.095 and was not involved in an accident) Upon entering Canada around 1993 or so, they picked my airplane that day to screen every passenger. I was too stupid to be a liar, and they asked all sorts of questions about ever being convicted of any crimes, and when they asked about DWI, I stupidly said yes, almost 15 years ago. I was detained and deported. I am not allowed to enter the country. I spent a full day at their embassy in NYC because of business, I had to go to Canada regularly at that time. They made me wait all day, and I was never seen, but told to come back and I might be seen the next day.

Being as I am, I have never purchased a Canadian product since. I am not surprised at this new stupidity they are now demonstarting. Canadian people are a fine folk, and I have friends and even family there. I am an undesirable, a criminal to the Canadian govt, and their governement is run by idiots and always has been. But so is the U.S. They once refused the PM of Canada into the states due to a DWI conviction too. Can you beleive? Honestly, that's true, it was a Canadian customs officer that told me that when I got detained. Sure enough, it had happened.

I can't tell you how much this saddens me. :(

I am all too familiar with this situation also, NoM. I recently almost did not get licensed for my work because when I filled out their form I admitted to a silly misdemeanor from 23 yrs ago. I should have just lied. Its sad when you are better to lie than tell the truth, but that is what our world has come to.

As for the e-cigs, I will just claim they have no nicotine. I am a member of the Cruise Critics forum, and it was the people there who told me about them being illegal... I'll just take my chances.

It's my understanding that the only thing illegal is nicotine juice, but who knows about the border crossing? My girl lives up there and I used to drive up anytime like I was going to another state. Now I'm banned for a 1981 DUI unless I pay $1,000 non-refundable fee along with an FBI fingerprint background check and local police check, and hope they OK me to enter (non-refundable). Not gonna do it. Trying to get my girl an e-cig by next week. Hoping a V4L package will arrive to her. She's really wanting to quit smoking and vape.

OMG Maxwell! That is NUTS!! (referring to the fee and background check).

You should hear all the truckers yelling about this new 'border thing.' They use an NCIC computer, so it don't help to lie, in fact that will just make them madder. They told me if I show up on the border again without this $1,000 waiver I'll go straight to jail. Seems me and NoMatches have almost parallel lives. Crazy eh? EH? lol These govt's have to pay back their IMF interest loans ya know? It's the same for Canadians getting over here. Thankfully my girl is squeaky clean, but she still gets hassled. Flying is like paying to be humiliated and abused she says.

Maxwell, it's almost scary how similar our life experiences have been. I didn't know about this new info network they have. Fine by me, I can live just fine without darkening poor 'ol Canada's front door with my presence. I once cancelled an order for a new car from Pontiac when I found out it was manufactured in Canada! Being detained and deported got me pretty torqued off, obviously. They want a thousand bucks... LOL, for what? I don't think it was that expensive when I went to their embassy in 1993, but they wouldn't even see me that day. I sat on a plastic chair for 8 hours and was told to leave, try again tomorrow.

God only knows what might happen if we were ever let loose in their frozen tundra! Rape and pillage! Murder and mayhem! Yet, how many terrorists have we caught at the Canadian border trying to enter the US? pretty funny in an ironic way.

If you do by fluke lose your juice and are going thru Victoria area I could probably spare some for you. Have great trip welcome to Canada
