Guybrush, when i started i used a penstyle (kro80d) and went through about 3-4 mls a day or 24 mg/ml liquid (~72s mgs/day) . It took me about 6 weeks to move exclusively to vaping, but my cigarette consumption kept dropping during that time. I dealt with my cravings by smoking. They just got fewer and fewer fairly quickly.
After about 8 months of being smoke-free i went to 18mgs/ml. I still used cartomizers, but had switched to an ego battery. My decreases in nicotine intake has been really, really gradual. When i noticed that the nicotine made me anxious i decreased the concentration. Partly that was time, and partly because over the equipment has improved so much over the past 5 years. I now use iSticks with tanks (mini nautilus, aspire, GS16) or reos, and vape ~ 7ml of 1-2mg/ml a day (~ 10 mg/day)
I think it's possible that the e-roll isn't very effective at delivering nicotine- at least there are some early reports that the first generation ciagalikes aren't as effective, so trying a different set up may make a huge difference for you. i would suggest trying at least an ego class (second generation) or above, with a refillable tank of some sort.
If after a bit of time and a set up that is refillable and has a reasonable battery life, you find that you're using fairly high nicotine (>24mg/ml) and still have strong cravings, you may want to try liquid that contains the whole tobacco alkaloids (WTA) . It seems that some people shift to vaping immediately and drop to no- nicotine just as easily. Others switch fairly easily, but need liquid that contains at least some nicotine. For a third group, nicotine replacement isn't enough, and it isn't until they start using the WTA-containing liquid that the cravings subside. As I understand it, NETs have the tobacco flavors, but not the WTA, and the nicotine is added back in becaise the extraction process only captures the flavors.

I started with a manual, though i've tried automatics. I wonder if trying to exactly replicate the smoking experience might be making it more difficult. Maybe, as you look at possibilities for new equipment you might be soming to a similar sort of realization. Vaping isn't like smoking, it doesn't taste or feel the same. So trying to get it exact might be making it more frustrating than it has to be.
