Hello to all!

Okay, so I am building my first lil 18650 box mod. I have everything figured out and I'm ready to go!

I just have one question before I start...I want something "different" for this lil mod so im going to use the RCA/Phono method for the connector. I saw a video by usagold101 where he gave a detailed explanation about how to set a 510 connector into a phono jack.

Basically, the phono plug is set into the box and wired with the positive and negative wires.

BUT on the 510 connector he wired the positive pin of the 510 connector to the positive pin of the phono jack. Thats it?

My question is...why doesn't the phono jack need a ground wire? he mentioned something about the outside of the jack being the ground. So i just need to solder a wire from the positive pin of the 510 connector to the positive pin of the phono jack to simply make the 510 connector work?

Thank all you experts in advance...i've been lurking for a while, and lets just say you all inspired me to do this!

Remember, im new so be gentle ha.

Here's a link to video i watched...Phono RCA Type Plug e cig mod how to By David - YouTube

The ground is casing of the jack and the 510 connection. For the connection that goes in your mod he shows the negative tab sticking out thats where you soldier the negative. The only thing you need to keep in mind is the outer edge of the 510 connection must touch the metal casing of the rca jack.

Just a little advice when you strip the ends of wire you use for the positive connection don't strip too much wire. If you leave too much exposed it might bend over when you put it all back together and touch the side shorting out your device. I've done this before when repairing an ego connection.

Thats the "a-ha" moment right there. So after soldering the positive and negative to the plug that sits in your mod, its essentially the same as it if were a 510 connector that sits directly in the mod.

The plug part is wired plug positive pin to 510 positive pin and the 510 connector touching the metal housing of the plug creates the ground.

Im saying it to make sure im right, I haven't had a ton of electrical experience. This forum has helped so much.

I definitely will make sure to only strip enough wire to solder. I cant imagine how frustrating it would be to short out! Although, I am expecting at least one roadblock in this lil adventure ha.
Thanks again!
