I've been putting off the VV thing.. I wanted to give my ego batt's a chance with different carto's, I tried fluxomizer's, 306's, tanks and the like. " I'VE GOT TO HAVE MORE POWER". I think I'm goin' for a provari. My questions are, does it have a 510 connection so I can use all this stuff I've collected? Is there a downside to this device? What is the difference with the batteries (18490 and 18650) How many batteries should I get?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I figured this would be a good place to post this:)

Yes, it uses a 510 connection.

Downside? I guess maybe weight if that matters to you? Price? Delay in getting the unit if you want a specific color combination?

Functionally, I don't see any downside.

18650 has a higher mAh rating, so it lasts longer (assuming you use them on the same settings). The 18650 is lightly longer, and requires an extended end cap ($20). 18490's for me last just about a full day, and I have two. Keep one on the charger, and just swap them out, so I think two batteries is enough for me.. Though if one dies, I'm going to be in trouble.. :)

The only downside, is having to think where to put the voltage. But I usually add 2 to the ohms of the carto/atty and adjust from there. 1.7 ohm = 3.7 volts, 3.0 = 5 volts. Maybe a little less near the high end, like 4.9 volts on the 3.0 ohm carto. Just as a starting point, it puts you close to 8 watts. Dual coils, add a bit more, and adjust from there if you dont want to think about all the math. Iv got two 1 month old 18490s and they last me all day using it around 8 watts. But I seem to be a light to medium vaper. the 18650's will give you more run time than the shorter 18490's. I bought another pair, and always keep a spare with me (just in case) and a few topped off cartos, gets me through the work day, every day and Iv never had to switch to the 2nd battery, YET!

The only major downside to a provari, is it's limitations with dual coil cartomizers. It has a safety feature that prevents you from cranking up any atty, carto etc, in such a way that will fry it. So depending on the resistance, it'll stop you. It works great for single coil units, and is really a benefit instead of a hindrance (keeps you from destroying your battery). The only problem is that will dual coils, even though you have two coils which both register say 3.0 ohms, they are wired in parallel and give a reading of 1.5 ish. So your provari will judge it as a 1.5, and won't let you go above a certain voltage. This bothers alot of people who want to use their dual coils at higher voltages (ex: 5V). You can buy dual coils with higher ohms, (i'm gunna be testing out some 2.5s tomorrow and I'll tell you how it goes), but there is still that limitation. It's really the only drawback of a provari, when weighed against all the greater benefits...

Thanks, I still have plenty of ego batts (4) for backup, but I have a feeling they may start collecting dust

That's a given. I went from eGo's to ProVari a couple-few months ago. When I'm out for the day, I take an eGo with for that rare 'just in case' something goes wrong - but mainly it's just something extra to be taking along.

No downsides outside of the cost, which is somewhat on the high end for a PV. Here's my disclaimer though: I have been using Mac computers since 2006, and while they are pricy in comparison to PCs, you get what you pay for with them. The same can be said for the Provari... my experience with the three Provaris that I own is that they are all worth every penny and in my honest opinion are amongst the most coveted PV to have for any man or woman's vaping arsenal.

So far my EMDCC are the best, So you think I can use those?

Yes you can but you won't be able to set the voltage very high or you'll get an E2 error.

I'm using the emdcc's and although I get the error code above 3.5, the vanilla and tobacco flavs.
I've been vaping have plenty TH and vapour at the 3.5 level. For me.

Some of the fruity type juices do like 4-4.5v however so I'm not using the emdcc's for them.

mmmm:2c:

Cheers Hitmetwice:vapor::vapor:

510 connection

Downside is its bigger and heavier than the eGo so doesn't fit in a shirt pocket as well ( that's the ONLY downside )

The 18650 is longer and holds more charge. So you will need the extended cap if you get it.

You want 2 batteries. One in the device, one on the charger.

I got my Provari just a few weeks ago. I ordered another for the wife. It should ship tomorrow.

Done deal! This will be a new level of mailman stalking, I can't wait!

haha... "mailman stalking"

So true. I'm looking forward to the day I can order mine. (waiting for a blue-lighted one) I'll probably be stalking my mailman too. Well, more like rushing to get home from work most likely, but I'll be trying to get my wife to stalk the mailman for me. :)

Its the 2.5 amp limit. with 2.5 ohm cartos (dual or single) 6.0 volts would be 2.4 amps. With this device, this would be the combo that would allow you to get the most power from this unit.

Agreed, but I must add that if you are new to vaping and purchase a Provari, you wil save money in the long run because it is MUCH more difficult to blow an atty or carto with this amperage limiting feature
