Well, almost. A few wks ago I posted in the general forum about dehydration problems I was having after I got my new fancy-schmancy Provari, the vapor-producing machine. Three months I vaped 78's and X2's, some days quite heavily, with nary a dehydration issue and a few days after I got my Provari I started having dry hands, then I got reallllly dehydrated after a few more days. I'm talking, like, sick-feeling. And yes, dammit, I was drinking a lot of water. Like, 6 qts a day, little missy, plus I was drinking Crystal Light for electrolytes, too. I also take medication that can dehydrate, so I'm sure that added to it. But it was like my body wasn't retaining water, I don't know. I let it get out of hand because I was in denial (as I absolutely loved my Provari) and thinking the exact thing you're probably thinking reading this - The Provari is just a battery, does it really make that much of a difference? As someone in one of my threads remarked: After all, it's only a battery that heats whatever delivery system you're using so it shouldn't make any difference in dehydration. They suggested cooler vapes at lower voltage, something I will most certainly consider in future. But, whatever, it did indeed make a considerable difference for moi.
So I had to stop vaping. I thought it would only be for a couple of days, and the dehydration sickness did indeed pass quickly and I felt fine again, but my hands remained dry as hell. After three days I started smoking again, something I genuinely thought was part of my forever past. Which was odd in a way because usually when I've quit smoking for as long as 3 months I would stay off them for several years with no problem. But, whoa boy, I needed a vape, and if not a vape, a smoke. I suppose that's one of the trade-offs. It does make one wonder: If our oft-times incompetent legislators someday restrict vaping somehow, say, 5 yrs from now, how many of us will end up back on the devil weeds within days?
Anyway, it's taken 3 weeks for my hands to get back to normal. Weird. I don't get that at all. I'm going to ask my doctor about it next visit. I was a bit apprehensive that first week, I thought I might have somehow permanently damaged my hands. But they've been getting steadily better and better as time progresses.
I'm going to finish this pack of Newports tomorrow, then back to vaping full-time! With my X2's. Someone suggested that it might be PG causing the dehydration problem so after I'm all settled back into vaping with the X2 I'm going to ease into the Provari with some pure VG a few wks from now and see how it goes, closely monitoring how it affects me. I really love the friggin' thing, I hope I can use it. When I first got it I showed it to my brother, a smoker, and he remarked it looked kind of awkward compared to the cig/cigar-like bats I'd been using. I showed him how you hold it and told him what many have said on these boards - It's not about the not-smoking-thing anymore, it's all about the vaping. The PV is a great freakin' vape, no doubt about it.
I can't wait to vape again. When I first started it was a substitute for smoking, of course, but in these last three weeks it's been smoking that's been the substitute for vaping. I much prefer vaping; smoking is boring, one-note, nicotine delivery and that's pretty much it. I miss switching between my fav flavs - chocolate strawberry, banana nut bread, blueberry, strawberry apple, pear coconut cream, caramel... Compared to vaping, Newports have no imagination!
