Hey all. I haven't been here for a while, I have some catchin' up to do here, and whatever is happening in the whole vapin' world. My little brother passed away last month, and my computer is hardly ever working. Power supply issue I believe.

Welcome back. Condolences for losing your brother.
How long have you been away?

    Welcome back!

Thanks for the welcome backs, and the condolences too. Asthma and smoking don't mix, of that I highly believe now. A close friend of mine lost her daughter the same way.. I didn't know my brother smoked. I know he didn't the last time I saw him about 13 years ago. We talked on the phone and emailed back and forth, and he was well aware that I stopped smoking a bit over 3 years ago. I wish he had asked me about vaping but he was and our mother is a main stream news watcher. When I was up in CT last month for his services, she said to me, "You know those things are more dangerous than cigarettes, don't you?" I just pointed out a few links on my vape page. I did run into a few vapers up there, and I was excited until I got the 'deer/headlight' stare more than once, just asking (what is to me anyway) simple questions like "what kind of device you using?". At that point I decided to not even get close to 'box/tube/coil/battery' questions. One kid did know that he was using a Juul. Then he sorta disappointed me by saying "but it's got only 5% (at least he knew that was the nic level though) juice in it, that's kinda low isn't it?" He seemed shocked when I told him that 5% is 50mg. He had been vaping and not smoking for almost two weeks, so I congratulated him.

My computer has been quirky since at least late July, and I don't know for how long I haven't been here. I do know there's a bunch of post reading in my future..

Power supply issues are one of the things that can destroy a computer. PSUs are cheap and easy to replace
It's a strange thing to be sure. The computer (which is a laptop) I use now powers up OK (well the LED's that should light up do, and I can hear the HDD and CD make the right noises at the right time..), but something just isn't right. Sometimes it seems like it's a display issue instead. I miss the desktops I used to assemble and repair in the 80's: 4 screws to take the shell off, and 4 screws for the power supply, or simply pull out a board and pop another one in. There's a dozen or so screws in this thing, and it snaps together too! This laptop is only 6 or 7 years old, but if SSA doesn't deny my SI application, again, I'm getting another one.

Hey they’re still around. And one that works can be had for as little as $40 used.

I'd boot up in safe mode just to see if the display issues go away. If that works, then download CCleaner and run it to get rid of the junk on the hard drive. Run Windows Defender and SuperAntiSpyware to get rid of the adware and spyware. Do that in safe mode if you can.

Update your video driver to see if there's a problem there. Old computers sometimes get Windows updates that aren't compatible once they are older. My HP notebook is about that old and the new drivers that Windows 10 loads sometimes give me pink bands on the screen at boot and I have to go back to HP's driver site to get the one that's tested and works.

Try going to the manufacturer's support site and update drivers there.
