For me hobbies last about 3 years. Five at the most. Now take cameras for example; I still pull out my Nikon that was top of the line for about 8 days back in 2008 and take some great photos versus my celcam photos. Like a lot of hobbyists I started out cheap.... never daring to cross a price line. Then eventually crossing that line and soon losing interest.

It's not a jaded thing, but more of a fun thing. I expect better gear gives better results. Typically the potential is there yet my zeal has wained some so I cross that line expecting the zeal to return accordingly. Therefore the interest already waining results in what seems to be a lack of fun.

One day I found myself in an inkpen salon at an upper crust mall. I was looking for a replacement part to a 5 year award pen I had received at work. I had begun collecting Cross pens from office stores as well. I asked the nice lady if they could order me a part. My reason for trying there was it was a custom pen with gold plated stuff crafted into company logos and such with no branding on it. It came with a Waterman cartridge and the web stated that store was a Waterman repair center. She looked at me like I had 3 eyes... head all tilted like... "no"...
I saw a carbon fiber Cross pen on clearance and asked the price. She quipped "$375".... I asked what you get for that price and she walked away. Come to find out they cater to coligraphy. Maybe my muddy boots were the reason?

Anyway a visit to a nearby sunglass store resulted in a young fellow explaining to me what had happened while I tried on some limited edition Ray Ban wayfarers... I also collected vintage sunglasses back then. Early American Opticals, Maui Jim's etc.

So for now my excitement for vape gear is on full throttle while learning what's out there. Also learning the history is fun. There are price lines I won't cross going in, but not because of the price. It's more like I invest in the gear as a hobby that pays for itself over time. So a $140 mod is not beyond my grasp as long as it is a quality device that should last several years. I know what style I prefer, what vape I want and how to acheive it. Having dove head first into the deep end with other hobbies has taught some powerful lessons so certain mistakes should be (I say should, not will) be avoided. I started out vaping for two as I was hooking up Mrs. Nation with gear also. But she is a basic type who has found a couple of vape pens she likes and some flavors. So I'll acquire backups for her and stock up on her favorite liquids. I'm almost there and am also acquiring back ups for a couple of devices I like. Yet the learning will likely continue for years and carry over to other hobbies that involve computer controlled electricity.

Wow, what a sad bunch, lol. I can sort of understand though. Only been vaping a year now and ive found what i like. Mix my own juices but i still like storebought as well. Finally got away from drop in coils and make my own. But i feel ya on this topic. Dont need fancy crazy coils. A simple plain kanthal works just fine. I was excited about all the new stuff but a good solid regulated box and decent rta gets me through the day. There are enough juice flavors to keep me interested though. I still enjoy finding that ONE that i can vape a whole 120 of and not get tired of, or even making one like that. But bored, nahh. In a routine? Yup, certainly.

I've only been vaping 8 months so everything is still new for me, but. My interest was to get away from smoking and find gear that will last, my zippo is 30 years old! So when I find that gear and maybe start mixing if I have to then the interest is really not there for me. The colors, lights and other dodads on stuff holds not facination for me. My problem is sorting through the clutter of stuff available.

Kind of like when I started with straight razors, you can go nuts with gear. My shave setup is simple long lasting and does what I want.
Though I just ordered this from vape authority on advice from a friend who works construction and swears by his. Got it for $45 when local shops wanted $75. We'll see how it holds up!

Edward, that Legend is a goody. It's got a pretty straight up interface that can be tweaked some yet fires very accurate and very quickly for predictable vapes.

I toodle puff with mine so it goes for weeks on a battery. My brother changes the weather via adding so much steam to the atmosphere and gets through a whole day with his subohm at 70 watts.

Coyote, I can see where you are coming from in terms of routine. But if it's something you enjoy, it's like polishing your hot rod.... an escape from the perils of life for a little while. And crafting an atomizer seems like fun. I haven't dabbled into that yet. But when I ask questions at shops it is fun to see those vets eyes get all lit up, grins on their face from ear to ear and listen to the debates of how many wraps and such should be done with wire X or Y.

At the moment, the industry is a bit busy pushing pod systems into the market, because [$easymoney].

Then again, it's not like there is no innovation at all. Mesh is coming back to the atomizers, we got touchscreen mods, voice control mods, fidget spinners on the 510s, LEDs in our atomizer bottoms, ultrasonic evaporation instead of heating coils, mods that are running on regular AA batteries... so things are happening, imho enough to keep looking at the market, and wait until the next big thing is introduced.

It is funny to watch things come full circle - the first modding I did back in the day was putting together three AAA batteries with a 510 connector and a carto while Joyetech was pumping out 510 batteries. There really isn't too much new, just revisited at this point.

See this is why I'm in about 100 "secret Facebook groups" because I always see new stuff that people hand make.custom crafted pieces are great but expensive and sometimes worth every penny i spend.nothing like a beautiful 3-d printed aluminum flaked squonk mod or a hand carved stabewood mod d.n.a 250c.some crazy rda or tank that no one has ever seen a deck like that made before and there's only 4 in the world and nobody will ever know because they wasn't there when it was (x1) sold.alot of new stuff we all just have to look for it.been vaping for 5 years now and the way I got over looking at it from your guys point of view was.....looking at it like a marriage, if it gets boring I have to look for new ideals to keep it fresh.

It's very ergonomic and feels like you could really mess up a criminals day using it as a weight for a throat punch should they try to mug you.
I did purchase a Hohm Grown 26650 battery for extra mah. Since doing that my battery easily lasts through the work day using between .14-.17 drop ins at average 70 watts with average 3-4 second draws and about 3ml of juice on busy days, 5-7ml on slow (boredom) or stressful days. On those days I do use a second battery while the HG charges overnight on my antiquated D2 charger.
I can see both sides of this. I'm excited for my brother, United States here, and my boss that are new to flavor, shiny, reviews and so much to tinker with but I'm personally at a point where I'm grateful to have the lack of desire to smoke anymore. This isn't my first go at this but it is the first time I no longer enjoy the smell of a lit cigarette and am not smoking even though I'm no longer ...... that cigarettes owned me for over 4 decades. I feel free for the first time and no longer chase shinyitis in an attempt to deny that I wanted to be owned by cigarettes again.
I really dig my stuff but also for the first time found a juice that if I didn't have any others I'd enjoy ,and not just be ok , vaping all day.

I understand but in 40 years of smoking "bored" had nothing to do with it. I just kept smoking more and more...

I have been in that place lately. I think a new hobby that has nothing to do with smoking or vaping is in order. Vaping is just something I do now like I use to smoke and I am happy with that. I am back at the gym. I can afford that since I save about $3000 a year.

My theory is that by buying, researching and coming to the forum, I stay focused on quitting. For me, that is a good thing and so worth every penny spent. When I get bored, I tend to relapse to old habits, dieting comes to mind lol.

Easy to see why anyone who's been vaping a while would be bored. The pace of innovation in this market was amazing, but matured quickly. It wasn't too long ago that there were breakthrough game changers every year- real changes, not just an improvement on an existing concept. And all the innovation seemed to be coming from hobbyists who became small companies, rather than big tobacco/business. Some of the hacks people came up with that were adopted were pretty amazing.

And the excitement - for me it came from hoping that next product would be "the one." Now that I pretty much have it (NET, Doggystyle, DNA75), I'm only looking for things that do it as well, but in a smaller package.

But I've only been really doing this exclusively for about a year and a half. I did try Njoy, ego, Smok trophy clearos, and had an MVP. But I wasn't really into it then. In the last year and a half (after completely giving up smokes), it seems that's when it really topped the plateau. TC became commonplace, Kayfun became an afterthought, and no really great, totally different products seem to be hitting the market.

Rather than surfing, it brings music to my mind. Born around 1960, I was kind of young to be really in the mid-late 60's music, and my "peak" music years were in the 1970's when rock really grew and matured. I joined the vape game in time to see it peak, and soon enough to research and appreciate the history of it.

But as others have said, I'm okay with it being boring. I'm in no hurry to quit vaping, but the more bored I am, the less connected I am to this strange habit of inhaling heated chemicals periodically throughout the day.

I'm in similar camp about losing that wow factor but it's for slightly different reasons (more to do with above).

I've vaped for at least 4 years and I've gone thru the typical phase all gadget junkies have with this hobby. But my recent loss in interest is due to simple disgust in the industry's lack of innovation. Or more accurately, their inability to perfect their innovations. Leaky tanks, burnt coils, shorting atomizers, lack of flavour. We've had these problems for how many years? The manufacturers should fix these problems before inventing new stuff.

So for me, the lack of excitement comes from having been fleeced so many times that I've lost faith in that next amazing mod/tank coming out.

That being said, I'm in desperate need of finding a tank (that fits my above criteria) for use outside of the house.

I really don't consider vaping a hobby. To me, it's simply an efficient and relatively safe way to get nicotine into my system. 'Excitement' never comes into the equation.

@infinii: Leaky tanks, burnt coils, shorting atomizers, lack of flavor etc... are certainly legitimate concerns but all can be resolved with existing products.

Sure, I've been burnt a few times on lousy equipment, but these experiences taught me to heavily research any new product before purchase. The folks here are amazing. If you read enough you'll quickly find out what's good and what's inferior.

Yes, there is a LOT of crap out there but if people would stop buying it, complain to the manufacturer, and send lousy stuff back, the manufacturers might take the hint.

Am I 'bored' with vaping? Sure, just like I'm bored with food, my truck, mowing my 2 acres every freaking day, computers, and etc..... Doesn't mean I'm going to stop.

Why are you recommending another addictive thing?

    Link from the PBusardo site...

    Smoking versus coffee drinking:

Nicotine isn’t dependence-forming at all, outside of tobacco use. It has been found clinically impossible to show any dependence potential for pure nicotine.

None of the many clinical trials in which large quantities of pure nicotine were administered daily to never-smokers - the equivalent amount to that contained in up to 18 cigarettes, for up to 6 months - ever found any subject who showed any sign of dependence.

The leading researcher in this field, Dr Newhouse, whose day job is administering large amounts of pure nicotine to never-consumers of tobacco, says: “The dependence potential of pure nicotine is virtually nil”.

Because pure nicotine is not dependence-forming, it cannot be addictive either. In modern use, dependence means a compulsion that may be harmless or close to it, and addiction is compulsion plus clear and inarguable harm.
