I'm confused with the product names and companies

Hi folks, brand new here and I'm going to try e-cigs. I've done a bit of browsing here and googled for reviews and I'm ready to make an impulse buy I'm here in the US.

I'm confused with like named products that appear to be from different companies. Best I can gather from the cursory reading I've done I think I'd like a screwdriver or 510... i think.

I haven't seen any negative reviews about Electronic Cigarettes, Inc. and was looking at their Vapor King 510 or their Screw Driver models.
Seems that Trog has a Screw Driver also (the original?) but maybe only in the UK. Then vapor4life has a 510 also? maybe in the UK only? then 901s, 510s, etc. seem to refer to the atomizer... it's so confusing.

Electronic Cigarettes, Inc. appears as if they are in the US and they have what appears to be an OK package deal in the Vapor King Platinum ($150), and they have a Screw Driver model ($109). If I were to get one of those could I go all that wrong? For the initial purchase it doesn't have to be the best deal or anything. I just don't want to get the worst deal/product on the first shot.

I was leaning towards the screw driver from electroniccigarettesinc over the Vapor King Platinum package (I think the screw driver is a bit more once you add the accessories in the package but it has that BIG battery)

Hopefully I can help clear things up for you a bit. The 510 is a model of ecig it's actually the Joye510, some vendors/suppliers give them different names (eg. the Yeti) There are also some cheap knock offs that don't hold up as well.
The Screw Driver is a MOD, which is usually a battery casing that holds batteries that will last much longer than the normal 510 battery.
I have never dealt with the suppliers your asking about so unfortunately I can't help you there.
My recommendation would be to start out with a Joye510 starter kit with a couple extra batteries and atomizers - be aware there is a learning curve and give yourself time!

And for the 510 starter kit look at cignot.com The ladies there are fantastic. Great service, good prices and very fast shipping. They have a no box starter kit for $35.

As a beginner, I wouldn't get a mod like the Screwdriver yet. See how you like it first. That's what I did. I started with the 510 and have now stepped up to the TW Tornado (or Janty eGo). It's not a mod, but an updated version of the 510. Basically better batteries using the same attys and carts.

Start off simple. The cignot kit will get you started and get you off tobacco. Once you've done that, decide where and how expensive you want to go.

I have ordered from Electronic Cigarettes, Inc. before. IMO they are over priced, because you are paying for the name Vapor King on everything. There products are great thought, the real thing not a knock-off. I would get from myPVshop or Cignot, both a lot cheaper and the same product.

Got my 510 from CigNot kit with a PT, really happy with it and was really surprised at how fast they got it way down here in Texas. I guess I'm going to have to check out that Janty eGo as well, I have seen it mentioned and recommended quite a bit.

There are actually only a few basic types, but there may be several manufacturers of each. The parts for any given type are usually interchangeable.

Joye 510 (aka Dura, Yeti and Titan) This is the most popular model among members of this forum. Almost everyone prefers the manual battery although you can get it with an automatic batt if you look.

Pen Style (DSE801, RN4072, Joye 302, BE112). This is my favorite because of the large cart (I don't have to add liquid as often) but I didn't get a manual battery for it which I should have. It is very long (6"). The M201 is also a pen style, but it isn't always interchangeable with the other models.

Two-Piece (KR808D-1, Nebula, Vapor King) I can't tell you much about these as I don't own one. The atomizer and the cartridge are one piece. A lot of people here love them.

Minis and Super Minis. Here's where I start getting confused. The DSE901 is a mini. I think RN4075, SMC-301 are as well. The DSE103 and the Joye 306 are Super Minis.

There are also several with names that start with M (M401, M402, M702, etc.). As I didn't consider buying them, I don't really know where they go (possibly another category altogether.) To add to the confusion, some vendors rename their models. But they almost all fall into one of these groups.

Check out The Wonderful World of Vaping in the ECF library. It will help you figure understand the differences between models. If you find vaping is for you, that's the time to add a battery mod to your arsenal.

Yup, did that. Did a lot of hand wringing of the choice of 2 510s with wall charger or 1 510 with USB passthrough . Went with the USB passthrough package (I spend all day in front of a PC) and ordered up a sample variety of 4 of the small bottles of juice. 24mg. and the 3 spare cartridges with the tea bag... read about that mod already.

Haha, then read somewhere about possible problems with USB passthroughs possibly damaging USB ports... guess I'll use the USB wall adaptor from an old phone.

Looks like juice is going to be another 4 or 5 days of browsing. and I suppose I'll just have to have one of those screw drivers soon (some of the golf rounds here take over 5 hrs).

And I get the impression that you sort of need a trickle of atomizers and batteries coming in every so often too.

Do I need one of those charger cases? How prone are these to leaking? I sort of got the impression that they don't if the cartridges are refilled correctly/carefully? Would you drop one in your dress shirt pocket without a case?

Here's a reply from another US noob (if I lost you there, pronounce it "newbie", a person new to something) who is just getting over the "learning curve", and who encountered the pitfalls that you are trying to avoid...

I was a heavy smoker for 30+ years who was motivated to spend less and live more, if ya know what I mean... I heard about the ecigs, and like you, did some preliminary research online. I also ran into an "information overload". But instead of posting with questions, I decided to dive in quickly and learn from mistakes...

So I ran to a local tobacco store and bought a starter kit. Although it was from an unknown manufacturer, and an unknown model. Ends up it's a DSE801 knockoff, with a auto battery. What a mistake that was. The only thing good about it was that the cartriges were refillable. But because the only fluids available on my "impulse" run were pre-filled carts with 12mg content (12 milligrams of nicotine per milliliter), it just barely kept up with my addiction. And when the batteries would fail, frustration was a BIG understatement.

The first resolution was to get a stronger, better efluid. I purchased a 30ml bottle of 36mg pg (propylene glycol) fluid from a company with UK origins called Totally Wicked. They also have a presence in Florida, and the extra nicotine made a world of difference.

But my ecig was still unreliable. The auto switch was a problem, wouldn't work reliably, and vapor clouds would decrease steadily with the strength of the battery. Not good when you work as an industrial field mechanic. New batteries would solve the problem for about a week. So I decided to look into the larger, and manual battery options.

Like you, I was attracted to the screwdriver, with it's manual switch and 900mAh battery. But I have since decided on a product marketed by Totally Wicked called the "Tornado". It's also marketed by Janty as the "eGo" Here's the tradeoff.

Most ecig batteries operate with about 3.5 volts and 130mAh. While the Screwdriver has 900mAh, the Tornado/eGo pushes 650mAh, and is also manual. Not quite as strong, but MUCH stronger than average, and good enough for me. The real advantages to the Tornado/eGo are that they use the 510 components. Larger carts that hold more fluid, and atomizers that produce a more dense, and flavorful cloud, when compared to the DSE901 components used by the Screwdriver. It's also more streamlined, and balanced, not quite as awkward to hold and use as the Screwdriver. And a little more discreet.

And on a final note, I'll compare the Totally Wicked to the Janty product. TW ships from Florida, while Janty ships from Texas (closer to you) and is $0.04 cheaper. But at the time I'm writing, Janty only has the black, auto version in stock, and I cannot recommend an auto version. But who knows what will show up tomorrow? The last difference is that the Janty kit contains a faster usb charger, while the TW kit contains an extra atomizer. The faster charger is worth more, but considering the battery output, probably not as useful as the extra atomizer, when you consider that many persons new to vapor burn up atomizers while they are learning...

Evidently the Electronic Cigarette Commany some have mentioned isn't one of the approved companys here. I stick with the ones here and have found the best prices and best juices here too.

It looks that Cignot has the best price on a basic 510. It has two manual batts and that's what you want. The autos aren't sealed. You can get some spare batts, PCC, and attys too. They don't have any blank carts though but once you use one you can rinse it out and rejuice it. You can get juice there too but I dont' know what it's like. That will get you started then you can begin to look at other sites for the best prices on other juices and parts.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Great help. Here's where we're at 11 days later. Keep in mind that I'm a gadget freak, technically inclined, and I'm OCD...

My Cignot starter kit arrived the next day I think (they must use teleporters). I went for the 510 w/usb passthru and some heavy duty EcoPure (and maybe the DK-TAB and 555 -- or I got those somewhere else). Opened it up, started using it and haven't had an analog since . It struck me shortly after that I had no way to charge the 510 battery... doh. So I made a note to use that only when absolutely necessary and immediately ordered the "ultimate" 510 starter kit from Innovapor along with a bunch of heavy duty strength UltraPure regular.

That arrived almost immediately and my 510 battery had lasted the couple of trips away from a wall outlet for the usb pt... I felt much better (especially after a couple of days of reading here) with spare batteries, spare atomizers and a bunch of accessories to play with.

I started dripping. I had all VG juice and everything had a (sickly) sweet taste to it. Not bad but there. TH was there. Nicotine was WAY there. Hahaha, with 36mg, everything else I had over 25mg, and non-stop sampling and experimenting I was pretty fuzzy headed for a few days there.

Everything was OK and I was pretty pleased and there weren't any cravings or feeling like I was missing an analog but it wasn't exactly nirvana. So... (see OCD disclaimer above ) having done a few more days of intensive reading here I ordered a BB w/passthru from AltSmoke and Atomic Cinnacide, Tobacco, and Amaretto Sour from Tasty Vapor. PG juice at 24mg this time . All that stuff seemed like it arrived overnight as well. NOW we're cooking with gas!

Woo Hoo! 5v is what you imagined it should be like. PG juice was on the other end from VG. So I've started mixing my stuff together. (also pretty much OD'd, chain vaping my BB with 30-36mg juice). Cut some of the 36mg UltraPure (mild tobacco flavor) 50/50 with glycerin. Mixed that 50/50 with the Tasty Vapor PG juices. Ding! Now I've got some stuff very much to my liking on all measures. Hit, vapor, taste, thickness. I'm figuring I'm somewhere between 21 and 24mg.

Found some Lipton pyramid tea bags and spent some time Saturday stuffing all my spare carts and playing with that. Tried a 901 atomizer on my BB. Interesting alternative. It's much more consistent but much more mellow than the 510s. The 510 is more aggressive all the time but it's a fine line between flooded and burnt. 901 is never burnt but just doesn't have that kick. I think I'll be switching between the two depending on mood (favoring the 510).

I don't have batteries for the BB yet (variable voltage passthru only) Should have batteries in a couple of days. The 510 as is, is just not quite there. It's sort of like "it'll do to get me there, or in a pinch". I'm expecting the 510 on a full 3.7v with the BB to be perfectably acceptable.

In short, I'm one happy camper and the advice and opinions here made that possible in a few days instead of weeks. Thanks again.

Glad to hear everything is working well for you Here's hoping you get your batteries soon, although a lot of people seem to think 5v is the sweet spot I personally love my BB with the 3.7v batteries.

Well, 5v is definitely sweet. but I don't have a cord long enough to make it around a golf course. The Joye 510 doesn't quite do it but Scottbee found them to be at about 3.1 or 3.2v due to the battery or switch or something before the atomizer. I believe the BB delivers the full 3.6 or 3.7v to the atomizer and that's a significant increase. I'm figuring it will be just great while mobile.
