I have never even researched these things until today.

I don't want to quit smoking... I want to smoke safer, so I figure an e-cig is the way to go. So I need a little help... I was browsing and it all seems so crazy and complicated with carts and liquids and yada yada...

Someone help me out please? Point me into the right spot to learn exactly where to start, I want to order today and getting the truth out there through google is impossible due to about 10,000,000 affiliate websites.

Thanks in advance!

PS: and people say its more expensive... is this the case? I'm paying over $6.50 per pack out here in Utah, hahahaha.

Look at the stickies at the top of this forum. Watch the "ecigs for broke people" videos by Mistress Nomad. That's where I got started.

You can get started vaping for less than the price of a carton of cigarettes.
Litecigusa, Liberty Flights, Vapor4life all sell kits to help you get started. Last time I looked Litecigusa had the best prices on starter kits.
A pack of cigs cost me $7.60 a day. vaping costs me about $2 a day.

Welcome elan123, you found the perfect forum for what you were looking for. It can be information overload here but your best bet is watch the videos about vaping for broke people that MN did. Then make a thread about how much you currently smoke and which brand. I was a Pack A Day smoker and just recently started vaping. I use the 24mg juice and found that the 16mg was not enough nicotine to satisfy me. I choice a kr808 because I wanted the better battery life. It will take some experimenting on your part when you first start because everyone is different.

Glad you found us.

I found it's about a $2 a day habit verses the cost of a pack and could be cheaper if you get into mixing your own juices. I like the no fuss premixed juices myself.

Elan, I too didn't really start this to quit smoking, I just happened upon the forum and started reading and thought it sounded like fun. I thought I really enjoyed smoking but through vaping have found a whole new hobby and haven't had a regular cigarette in nearly 2 weeks. My advice, like the others, would be to read a few sections of the site and if you think you want to give it a try I highly recommend the Riva 510 from Liberty Flights. I got the joye 510 to begin with and the extended battery life and ease of use of the Riva has really impressed me.

You can definitely save money by vaping over smoking however you will spend a little more to get started than you will when you figure out which flavors, carts etc work best for you and settle in to a more regular pattern. A few quick calculations for you, and this isn't the cheapest way, but very easy :-

Riva 510 from Liberty Flights - Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510 - $30 with discount code ECF
Prefilled Cartos from Liquid Xpress - Xpress 510 Cartomizers - $8 for 5, can be refilled with juice many times over if you want to go down that route, but if not, I get 2 days out of the Liquid Xpress carts of reasonably heavy vaping - $1.60 each, or 80 cents a day, considerably less than the $6 you currently spend :)

Then if you feel you want to experiment with flavors etc most vendors sell sample sizes for a couple of bucks and add a drip tip or fill the 10 blank carts you get with the Riva kit and off you go....

Using electronic cigarettes can range anywhere immensely cheaper than cigarettes all the way to more expensive than cigarettes.

--Treating this like a hobby and buying everything (most expensive)
--Constantly chasing the "perfect" vape (more expensive)
--Using prefilled cartridges or cartomizers instead of refilling yourself (less than cigarettes)
--Satisfied with what works but constantly trying new flavors and refilling yourself (less than cigarettes)
--Settling on a few favorites juices and refilling yourself (much less than cigarettes)
--Making your own juice (FAR less than cigarettes)

Get manual batteries - a manual battery slim or fat ecig with 510 or KR808D-1 threading are the most popular here

Joye 510 manual - 2-3 hour charge for a light vaper. 1/2 that for a heavy vaper
Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.

or for 3 times the battery life and the ability to use hotter harder-hitting LR parts - look at the Egos at the same place above or at liberty-flights.com look at the Riva 510

or for 3-5 hour battery life for a light vaper see Vapor4Life.com for the most popular 2-piece (fat battery mdoels available elsewhere like LeCig's PigCig)

And whatever you buy you need eliquid - cartos of a 2-piece last longer than cart of a 3-piece but ALL NEED LIQUID

cart of a 3-piece like 510 can be used and reused and restuffed and used more, and the atomizer is what might fail

carto of a 2-piece like Vapor4Life has a limited life - maybe 4-7 days if you keep it damp with juice.

Buy manual batteries

full strength smokes - try 24mg
light smokes -> try 16-18mg
ultralight smokes -> try 10-12mg

And bracket that - get a bit of juice higher and a bit lower - buy 25-30ml to start and at least get some of it where you buy the kit

If you get a 510 or KR808 you can also get a PCC which is a charging box that looks kind of like a cigarette case that will charge them while they are stored when you are on the go. When you are ordering your kit you can go with one that costs a little more that has a PCC. I think the easiest one is Vapor4Life's Vapor King with the prefilled cartomizers. I don't even own one, but have tried my friend's. If you want the simpliest one, I would try that and see if you like vaping. But get manual batteries like other posters have suggested. It will give you more options in the long run.

A pass through is also nice to have if you spend a lot of time at the computer. This is a battery with a mini USB to USB that you can vape while it charges.

Get some sampler sets of juice (or order several kinds of cartomizers if you choose the Vapor King) with various levels of PG/VG, nicotine strengths and flavors.

Ok, I am thinking about the revolver elite to start with... anyone have an info on this?
I wouldn't recommend that, because the Revolver Elite uses an M702 atomizer.

You are going to have a very hard time finding replacement parts and accessories for that.
You might even be stuck going back to Revolver for everything you need.

Also, I read somewhere that you might not be able to get manual batteries for an M702.
And that would be a very bad thing if true, because you'll probably want them eventually, even if you don't now.

Better to get a much more common model like a 510 or a KR808D-1 model.

If you don't have considerations of it having to look like a cigarette - if you do, that will pass :) Going for the Riva kit at liberty flights is a less expensive way to start off with a good ecig where the battery lasts longer than an hour or two. Going with the 510 or KR808 kits isn't bad but you really have to have a PCC - charging case for on the go (or a lot of extra batteries -depending on how long you're out) and the cost of the eGo or Riva kit will make up for the extra cost of the PCC. And you'll have two batteries that will last you from 10-15 hours - ymmv.

How about the KR808D-1 at myvaporstore? The ultimate starter kit comes with

* 2 x Rechargeable Batteries - AUTO Switch (activated by inhaling) 84mm Long / 280mAh
* 6 x Pre-filled Cartomizers (Random Flavor/Strength/Color)
* 1 x USB Charger
* 1 x Wall to USB converter
* 1 x User Manual
* ----
* 1 x Wall To USB (Pass-Thru Ready)
* 1 x KR808D1 Manual Passthrough
* 1 x KR808D1 Portable Charger Case (PCC)

Looks like a solid deal? Can this thing take all kinds of flavor carts too??

That isn't a bad choice, although I would lean towards the 510 instead, but that's just me.

I'm not real up to speed on prices, but that doesn't look too bad for the price.

Yes it can, but it probably won't matter in the long run.

I'd estimate that around 95% of us eventually switch to refilling ourselves instead of buying prefilled.
That's much cheaper, and gives you a much wider variety, and it is really easy.

Just say NO!!! To auto batteries! Yes you'll have less compatibility problems with that kit but, auto batteries are a problem. There are two problems with autos. First, they sometimes go off when you don't want them to and sometimes they don't go off when you do. Second, unless you want to spend buckets of money, you're going to start refilling those cartos. When you overfill one, and you will, it can drip through the hole in the top and ruin the battery.

I don't know whether anyone's mentioned it but, those cartos amount to roughly 4 cigarettes.

Ok, so the 510 ultimate starter kit comes with

* 2 x Rechargeable Manual Button Batteries
* 2 x Atomizers
* 1 x USA Battery Charger
* 5 x Pre-filled Cartridges
* 1 x User Manual
* ----
* 1 x PCC
* 1 x 510 High Powered Passthru
* 1 x Wall to USB Converter (USB passthrough compatible)

for $87 with free shipping.... anyone know of a better deal?

Thanks for all the help!

Oh yeah, what was I thinking!

If you do go for that starter kit, find out if you can switch one of the automatic batteries for a manual.
And if you can't, then make sure to buy at least one spare manual battery.

If you start having trouble getting the automatic battery to work consistently, you'll be very glad you have a manual.

Where the heck is my brain hiding today!!

You are also going to need to get some more juice.
Those cartridges do not last anywhere near as long as they say.

You should get a bunch of small juice samples, perferably 5ml in size, if not less..
You'll want a few different flavors and possibly a few different nicotine strengths.

How much of what kind of cigarettes do you smoke right now?

Little less than a pack a day - Camel Menthol Silver
