Your input is needed in a very important study analyzing the characteristics of vapers. The study will gather information about vapers including exposure to marketing, use of e-cigs, opinions related to your e-cigs, and social networking habits. The survey shouldn’t take longer than 15 minutes and, after completing the entire survey your name will be entered into a drawing for a $40 Wal-Mart gift card. Your first name and email address will only be used hold the drawing and contact the winners and won’t be connected to your responses in any way, so please be honest in your answers. Also, be sure to read the Informed Consent statement at the beginning of the survey before answering any questions. If you’re interested in participating, you can access the survey through the following link: (http://uvu.qualtrics.com//SE/?SID=SV_3yErHUFbuyUTMbP; Utah Valley University IRB Approval #01184). Thank you. :)

I actually stopped filling out the form when it started sounding too much like product market research - things like how satisfied with battery life I was or did I think cartridges ran out too quickly or what my favourite flavours were.

The reward of a Wal-Mart gift certificate also felt a little fishy. Just sayin'

I appreciate this feedback. I wasn't aware that it sounded like market research and, unfortunately, at this point, its too late to change any questions. I can assure you it isn't market research. This is part of an e-cigarette study being conducted at Utah Valley University. I'm interested in gathering information about your experiences with e-cigs, including whether or not they've helped you quit using traditional cigs. I hope this helps clarify any misunderstandings.

You might want to do a little more research and get another study together. Your survey really does appear geared more towards the cig-alikes and possible underage use. Unless that's the slant you are wanting your research to show. I would like to think you are wanting an honest representation of ecig use, but I'm a little cynical.

I'm all for giving my opinion on e-cig use, honestly. I think there needs to be more studies done on the good they do.

As stated, the majority of us on ECF have moved away from "ciglikes" (not all, saying that - I'll not make a sweeping statement to that effect)

Having a more "open ended" user definable survey where we can tell you what we vape may yield better results long term.

No issues with taking the survey though, just parts of it were not applicable to your average vaper.

Agree that it was designed for people using cigalikes. Hard to answer about cartridges, etc. when that's not what I use. Also questions unclea whether about standard smoking vs vaping in a number of cases. It would be nice if someone who knows about vaping would do a study, or at least if people doing studies would find out more about the topic before writing the questions.

I'd suggest you get in contact with the Utah Vapers Association who focus on the industry in the state and works with several hundred consumers and nearly every specialty shop statewide. Contact information is on Utah Vapers - Home.

Your questions are too focused on the wrong type of devices. I did do your survey.

The question of "immediate benefit" against the "long term health" is kind of limiting. There are no long term health problems yet associated with vaping. How can we know if it is worth it if we don't know of any or know of what they would be if any are found? We know that now, with what we know, yes - this is a great thing. And because of what we know - that all research is pointing to no long term problems but what if we find out in 20 years that my favorite flavor chocolate mint causes blindness when vaped at the rate I am vaping? Then no, that flavor would not have been worth it.

To ask a question that says "is the immediate benefit worth long-term issues"....that can't be answered.

This also seems to be geared toward people who are currently smoking - I don't smoke, I quit 14 years ago, so I wound up quitting the survey a few pages in when the questions became geared toward current smokers.

Coelli,
I'm sorry if you were presented with a bunch of questions that didn't apply to you. I thought I had the survey set up to skip certain questions if you indicated that you didn't currently use traditional cigarettes, had never used traditional cigarettes, etc. I will double-check the flow of the survey and I appreciate you bringing this to my attention.

I did the survey as well. I used to conduct surveys as a living, and I found some of the questions to be too limiting and they seem to be said based on minimal information about how E-cigarettes work. most questions were ok, and I substituted the ML/day instead of cartriges per day. Other questions that could be misconstrued is how many puffs per day. To be honest, I don't know, and even then, do primer puffs count? how about long puffs? short ones? It's not a true indication as to quantity.

At the end, I can understand the married, the income etc, but religion, political views, and ammount of spendable money per day AFTER paying bills is a bit questionable and I don't see how they have any reverence to a survey.

Questions that I feel that were left out that should be there that would be relevant to an E-cig survey are:

do you believe you are getting more, somewhat more about the same, less, or much less niccotine than traditional cigarettes.
How much per week do you spend on E-cigarette related material.

Some open ended questions are not there, like:
Why did you start E-cigarettes
do you think that e-cigarettes improve your self image, and why do you think that way?
Why do you think you will continue to use E-cigarettes in more than one year from now?

some of those questions might give a bit more insight as to why people are using E-cigarettes. Some use it as a hobby, others as a means to quit. That survey doesn't really give a good reson as to why they continue to vape, and why they switched from cigarettes.

NealBJr: Thank you for the feedback. This is a very preliminary survey and I appreciate all of the feedback I can get. Thank you for providing some additional questions that may provide a better overall picture of e-cigarette use. With your previous experience writing surveys, I'm wondering if I might be able to have you proofread future e-cig surveys as to ensure I'm asking the proper questions? Again, I would greatly appreciate the constructive feedback.

Filled out your survey the best I could, but find you questions show much lacking in your knowledge about vape gear and the way experienced vapers vape. Cartridges are for people who don't know better, and are not familiar with current vape technology. I filled in the ml used, which is high if you don't understand the gear I use and the watts that I vape at. Nic levels can not derive any good data unless one is versed in the gear, watts and efficiency of ones gear. For example, I vape 12 mg nic juice, which would be low for some, but with my builds and the watts vaped at, I get more nic delivery than someone using 2 or 3 times that level on a lower quality set up.

While I applaud your efforts, and your questions seemed better than another survey I participate in, the focus is skewed and doesn't ask the right questions or really understand what vape is about. Since you are a member here, would suggest that you do some research on what vapers do, and what can be accomplished. Without a months worth of reading these pages, there is now way for one to even begin to understand the variety and complexities that are available in the world of Vape.

Vape long and Prosper!!

And if you don't vape or smoke, don't mess with my vape gear or I will have to hurt you, badly!! lmao. just an attempt at humor. lol.
