IMR 18650, LiMn 2250mAh Battery

Just got a pair of these and using it in a DC 4.2 1A+2 charger. I have used this charger with protected batteries ok, but these IMR's are not protected batteries as far as I can see but are LiMn types. On the first charge they got pretty warm which got me a bit worried.

I put the charger next to me right now to watch the progress and to see if the led's will go green indicating full.

Just a bit worried about how warm they are. Anyone have experience with these cells ??

Thanks

Roy

batteries "may" feel a little warm to touch while charging. They should never feel "hot" to touch.

What is the brand and model of IMR batteries you have? Where did you purchase them? What brand of charger?

There is a wide variation in the quality of batteries in today's market. They vary in excellent name brand batteries by AW, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony ... to the downright despicable fake or counterfeit batteries which are previously used harvested batteries from laptop computers or power equipment and rewrapped (disguised) to look like popular brand name batteries.

WHERE you purchase your batteries from is just as important as which battery you choose. Reputable vendors such as RTD Vapor, Illumination Supply, Lighthound, and Orbtronics sell only brand names from the manufacturer themselves. Places like Ebay or Amazon likely got their cheaper batteries from Alibaba, a huge Chinese supply house known to sell counterfeit batteries.

They claim that any 4.2 volt charger can be used, which I'm using. Not sure what's inside the charger, but it seems that if you use a protected cell, when it gets full the electronics in the battery, cut the charging off, and therefor the green light will come on, telling they are full.

I don't think there is anything intelligent in this charger, which means there is no way for it to know when the cell(s) are full.

Right now the indicators are still red, and the batteries are warm, which means they are sill attempting to charge.

Just put my Kill a Watt meter on it, its indicating .06 ac amps, and 5.6 watts, so its not pushing hard. Need to send ask MadVapes about this.

Btw I'm also a tech and familiar with lithium, but have not seen these LiMn cells before and just wanted some confirmation on behavior.

thanks for your reply

Yea I have and they didn't go above 4.12 or so. I was just going to post as your email arrived.

All is good, the left one has turned green, and I'm assuming the right one will also in time. I guess that initially they were low, and the charger was dumping one amp in to the cells, and getting them pretty warm. Being they were not protected and they were getting pretty warm, I kind of semi panicked, and just needed some feedback from someone familiar with LiMn.

Just wasn't sure what was going to stop the charge since I didn't know whats in the charger ( need to open and look... grin)
