I understand that IMR batteries are recommended for VV because of the higher drain on the battery. I would think they would work fine on mechanical mods too.
But, mechanical mods don't have any extra protections if there's a problem with a battery. So, would a protected Li-Ion battery be safer?
IMR will work fine in a mech mod. Like any battery ... just make sure the battery isn't getting too hot (generally the first sign of failure). If it is, stop using it immediately. You can also buy a 2 cent fuse for extra protection.
IMR is generally considered fairly safe due to its chemistry so you should be fine. (I use IMR with no problems as well)
What they said. I use IMRs in my mechanicals and have had no problems. One time I felt the tube of my telescope getting hotter than felt "right" when trying out a new EMDCC. I immediately stopped vaping and took the battery out. The coating on the battery had started to melt. Apparently the thing had failed.
What was odd was I'd tested the EMDCC with a multi meter and the ohms checked out at around 2ohm. Weird. Shouldn't have been a problem. But the battery was a older one, so who knows?
Oh yeah..and I had nothing but trouble with those EMDCCs. They ran WAY too hot...despite what the meter was saying. I stopped using them.
an imr from what i understand is still a lithium ion but safer chemistry and without the protected circuit will give more amps to your device depending on the battery 10 a is considered high but some go to 30A and wont cut off the amps at the protected circuit
I'm now using the same 18650 imr's in my Provari, Smoktech VV Gripper, and Silver Bullet. The convenience factor is a huge plus not having to deal with multiple size batteries for each and every mod.
I'm trying to standardize now. I have three mods, two electronics and a mechanical, and IMR seems to be the way to go for all of them (plus a fuse for the mechanical at least, of course!)
