I use cotton wicks so, never dry burn with any wicks in place but, I will dry burn the coils if they are gunked up and a vinegar soak doesn't quite clear them. With unflavored 100% PG, yes I can get 14 days before even cleaning them but, with anything else it varies from 1 to 5 days before I have to clean and, again some juices need the dry burn to get all the gunk off the coils.

Saves rebuilding quite so often.

I also have a couple of juices I drip only because 1-2 mils gunks the coils to the point of them needing cleaned.

lol thats cool, feel free =)

BlueMoods- do you have a good method of replacing cotton wicks only? i bought the peaches & cream before learning about the dry burn, so now im considering buying silica just so i can dry burn instead of rebuilding every time.
With silica, you can do a dry burn with the coil wick in place. You can try what I do... (the only difference is that I use bamboo flavor wick instead of cotton)... and that is to use the silica coil wick and a cotton flavor wick. Very quick and easy to lift off the FW, dry burn 'til clean, and if the cotton is in good shape, re-fit - if not, cut a new one. Just a suggestion.

I'm a low-moderate vaper (1-1.5ml pd). I tend to chain vape while driving and vape outside as I did with smoking. 1.5 month later and the coils in both of my evods* (1 travel-1 home) still work. After the first month I changed the flavor wicks and did a dry burn on each. I'm kinda looking forward to their deaths so that I can estimate how much life I can get out of each.

That's not uncommon... not real common, as most don't try to see how long they can get a coil to live, but I'm of the same mind. I'd bet we can push 3 months on quality products... just for the fun of it.

I use iClear16s (love them) and have just discovered how to dry burn. I usually rinse after 3-4 fills, then dry vape. I have had 2 now though, that get a really bad burned taste. Any ideas why? I did it the same way each time, and with the ones that taste burned, I still never saw the orange glow. Also, how many times can you dry burn before switching heads? How do you know when its time to switch heads/not dry burn any more?

as long as it vapes and doesn't taste funky I use them. I've had heads going for 4 months.

So what would cause a nasty burn taste smell to linger on the wicks? It was one of the times that I really dry burned the thing till it glowed bright red everytime. Do you re wash your wicks after the dry burn then? to get the smell out of wicks, lil plastic cap, and the tank itself? Also, what can you buy to replace the wicks? Do the coils last that much longer than the wicks that it pays to rewick? (I use the iClear16s)

Some folks recommend a rinse after a dry burn, it couldn't hurt. I've found that if you really dry-burn to the point no more smoke/vapor is rising from the coils, there isn't any leftover taste. Although, if a wick is being finicky, I'll rebuild and move on.

A quick dryburn could give new life to an old head. It won't vape as good as new, but as long as it doesn't give burnt taste it's good to go. Burnt taste means your wick is burnt. Should be rewicked or replaced.

i LOVE how a new head just creates so much vapor. so when its noticably deminished, i will dry burn or replace the head. id estimate 4-5 tankfuls, or a week or so, before i start noticing its getting weak. dry burning seems to bring them right back to life.

unless i for some reason put MVB Caramel Coffee in, then its about half a tank. =D

Sometimes, if there is baked on crust, some of it can hide on the bottom side of the coil, and this will impart a burnt taste till it is removed. Also, if your coil did have a bad crust on it, it would'nt hurt to rerinse and do a second dry burn to get a lingering burntness off it. I don't use the iclears so won't try to answer your other question. I will say I find it works best do the rinsing and dry burning before it gets to dirty, you just have to use your own judement when to do it, depends on your juice and vaping style as to how often.
