Alright, here goes. I'm a 28 yr old male, was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday(5/29/14) evening. Started smoking analogue cigs when I was 21 and was a half-pack a day smoker until this past February. Starting in feburary I reduced my tobacco use to one analogue cig a day which was supplemented with 1 logic black 1.8% ecig lasting me two days. I sincerely thought ecigs would save my life and still let me enjoy my nicotine addiction. As of this thread I have not smoked an analogue cig in one week, but, since the pneumonia diagnosis I have also stopped the ecig, which is killing me! The ER doctor and my primary doctor both said that they have not encountered anything in the medical literature linking ecigs to pneumonia. So, thats my story, all the advice, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated.
Mike.

I doubt either smoking or vaping led directly to your pneumonia, but any time you introduce an irritant on top of a pneumonia, it can get worse. You might be one of the unlucky few who is allergic to something in the juice, which would make your symptoms worse (not cause it). Stop it all if you can until you recover; definitely stop the analog smokes and if you really need the nicotine fix, vape VERY lightly.

Hello and welcome.:toast: First, get your situation under control. Then I'd suggest to get involved cheaply, buy two of these. Special - Variable Voltage EVOD Blister Pack Starter Kit - MyFreedomSmokes.com, and some extra atomizer heads Kanger EVOD Coil Replacement Heads (5pk) - MyFreedomSmokes.com . You'll also need to get some eliquid of your choosing(flavor, nic strenth,pg/vg ratio). This would get you started cheaply, then you could see if you want to make any changes and go from there. You might want to use a PG dominate liquid, it's thinner than VG, and does'nt produce as thick a vapor.

I so appreciate your prompt and concerned replies. The two main symptoms I've had, since this past sunday, where a daily fever topping out at about 102 without ibuprofen/tylenol and thick, very dark green phlegm with brownish streaks coming from what felt like deep in my lungs. I just hope the anti-biotic works and its nothing more severe. Even though I'm only 28 I asked the ER doc if it could be lung cancer, I'm just a very anxious person. Without rambling too much, I'd also like to know anyones opinion on the sanitary nature of an ecig. I know from my experience I carried my logic ecig in my pocket everywhere, left it in my car at times etc...Like can bacteria or a virus literally crawl from the mouthpiece down the barrel and settle/grow???

Mike.

I'm not a Doctor. So anything I say should Not be Confused with Medical Advise.

I have had Bacterial Pneumonia once and Viral Pneumonia twice. The Second was Very Serious.

I would Listened to your Doctors and stay on Whatever Drug Regime they have you on Exactly. I would Not Smoke (ever again!) or use an e-Cigarette for at Least a Month after you are 100% "Healed".

Because Pneumonia can be Insidious. And Many Times can Flare Back Up when you Think it is Over.

But Pneumonia can also have a Very Beneficial Side Effect. Because it can Force a Person to Stop Smoking, or Inhaling Anything, long enough for them to Break the Physical, but More Important, the Mental Addiction to Inhaling Something.

The Only Time I was able to Quit Smoking before e-Cigarettes was after a Nasty Bout of Viral Pneumonia. And Didn't Smoke for about 18 Months.

But then Like a Stupid ....., I had a Cigarette at a Party. Then another Couple a week Later. And the week After that, Bought a Pack because I thought I could Control it. Couldn't. And of course, slipped right back into a Pack a Day for the next 14 Years.

What I'm Trying to say is:

Pneumonia can be Very Serious. And can Easily Flare Up when you Think you have it Beat.

But More Importantly. This Might be a Fantastic Opportunity to Quit Smoking AND Using an e-Cigarette.

Please give that Some thought. And I hope you make a have a Good Recovery.

I wouldn't be so Worried about how Sterile e-Ciagette Vapor is. As I would be about the Irritation that Putting anything beside Air can cause your Lungs. That and the Dehydrating Effects e-Cigarettes can have on a Normal Person. Let alone someone who is Sick.

Your 1st Concern should Always be Fever. You have to be able to Control it. If you Can't or if the Fever doesn't Break, you have to Go Back to the Hospital NOW.

I'd obviously keep the mouthpiece/drip tip clean. Keep the e-liquid bottles clean. I transfer my e-liquid to glass bottles.

Propylene Glycol (contained in e-liquid) is an effective germicide. It's used in inhalers, in hospitals, etc.

Hope you feel better. If you can do nothing- (smoke or vape) I wouldn't until you feel better. I couldn't go that route, so I'd probably try not to inhale vapor into my lungs if I could avoid it.

I had something similar last winter. Sick as a dog for about a week, took another week before I felt halfway good. At least there was no ........ or vomiting.

I checked the logic website and didn't see any PG/VG info but I'm assuming they use a PG heavy liquid, as most gas station cig-a-likes do. Propylene glycol (PG) is antimicrobial so I wouldn't be too concerned with anything "crawling down the mouth piece".

read more about PG here:

National Vapers Club - Meeting Place for lovers of e-cigarettes, personal vaporizers and all things "fog" producing!

I personally haven't even had a cold in over 2 years since I switched to vaping but if I were in your condition I would just get some nicotine gum/patches/lozenges if I couldn't get through without nic until I got better. I would not be messing around with pneumonia by putting anything unnecessary into my lungs.

I am not a doctor nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

Are you Saying that you are Still Spiking to 102 since Sunday when you don't take ibuprofen/tylenol?

I Really Think you Need to Go Back to the Hospital if you are.

I went to ER last night, thats when I was prescribed anti-biotic and started on it through IV....The fever spiked to 102 last night before they began treating it. I read everywhere that allowing the fever to persist would help the immune system, so since Sunday I tried using Ibuprofen sparingly, until last night, where I felt like I might die lol, hence ER trip. I was scared the fever could be from something else until I kept seeing super dark/greenish brown thick phlegm come up, looked "hallmark" infection. So far, as of today, no fever, scared it might come back....We'll see...

You made the Right Call Going to the Hospital.

I Seriously Question the Validity of Allowing a Fever to Persist under ANY Circumstances. When this is Over, Please Talk with your Doctor about the Effect of Running a Fever for an Extended period of Time.

So, was going to make a new thread but figured this should suffice. I'm officially healed, no more fever, day 5 of 10 for my anti-biotic regime and haven't smoked a traditional cig in 2 weeks. My question is, CAN I PLEASE SMOKE MY ECIG AGAIN!? Losing my mind, tried the non-inhalation technique, felt like I was getting something but it was very minimal. Can smoking my ecig really bring back my pneumonia or cause a new case?? Advice and help has always been and will continue to be appreciated. Maybe a medical professional on this board could comment too? Thanks..
