It can be a touchy subject...
Are we still smokers?

I can definately see the arguments either way.
But I have to lean on the side that we are no longer smokers.
For a couple reasons.
One argument is "Once a smoker, always a smoker", just like with alchoholics.
Alchoholics that are no longer drinking still consider themselves alchoholics, they just put the word "Recovering" in front of it.
Many people make the same correlation with smokers.

But this is not the case with vaping.

Recovering Alchohollics still crave alchohol. They make a concious effort every single day to not drink alchohol.

Vapers (that have stopped cigarettes entirely) do not crave cigarettes anymore.
At least myself anyway.
And for the majority of posts I see here, it seems that way for most vapers.
I crave my PV now. I like it better than cigarettes.
I am disgusted by the thought, smell and taste of a cigarette.

And my second reason, though probably holds less weight..

I am physically not smoking any more.
Smoke comes from combustion, burning organic material.
This does not occur in a PV
Therefore I am not taking in smoke.
Therefore I am not a smoker.

You can call me an EX smoker, or even a "Recovering" smoker if you like.
But I have effectively quit smoking.

I am still addicted to Nicotine, but that is just 1 single chemical among 4000+ chemicals that are in the cigarettes I used to smoke.

Yeast is 1 ingredient of most Beer.
Yeast is also an ingredient in Buscuits (and many other things)
So If I eat a buscuit, does that mean I am still an drinking?

No.
Same with the nicotine.

Vaping is just an alternate method to get the nicotine I am addicted to.

OK, I'm done..

I agree that we are not smokers anymore, it's the insurance companies that don't agree. In order for my insurance policy not to be denied in case I die, I must check off that I am a smoker.

That really sucks.
And it's just ignorance on their part.
And ignorance is not a bad/insulting word, It just means you don't know.

Basically, for years and years, smoking cigarettes (or pipes or whatever) was the only way to get nicotine. So they are just assuming that since nicotine is in your body, you must be smoking.

What about people who Chew (or chewed) Tobacco?
That's not smoking, they have nicotine..

Could you say you switched to chewing tobacco?

I think you are right Drozd, that there are a lot of people in Michigan who are panicking about the smoking ban.

Personally, I don't really hang out in bars much anymore now that I am older and have developed an ulcer, but back in the day I couldn't possibly have imagined (still can't) standing around in the bar without smoking. It just wouldn't have been possible. :)

Restaraunts shouldn't really be that big of a deal though, I don't think. I have never had any problem refraining from smoking long enough to eat a meal. I suppose the smoking ban will affect those who normally linger after the meal though.

The idea of not being able to smoke walking down a public street is an outrage. What comes next? No blue shirts? No flip flops? Just more bureaucratic nonsense.
yeah there was a media story about a cony island owner in Bay city I believe it was that they smoke and their entire staff smoked..so they switched to the ecig...and now they're renting out the batteries and selling cartos to patrons...

I was talking to the one smoke shop owner in Royal Oak about how it's going to impact his business because lets face it it's a bar town..and he said it wasn't so bad right now because of all the outdoor patios and it being nice out but he was expecting to be hit hard come winter on his cigarette sales..so he's carrying 2 different 2 piece model e-cigs (one of which is a $10 disposeable model distributed by a local company and producing all their adverts locally using local models and such)
