Information Overload! Opinions for the 808

Aloha All,

Another newbie here. First off I can't tell you how glad I am to have found this site with all the great info everyone has provided, and to thank all of you for the many headaches and the dizziness I have experienced here.

My husband and I have been a pack a day smokers for 35 years now and we are ready to get off these cancer sticks and start vaping! So I think I have made a decision on which ecig I think will be good for us and would appreciate any feedback and also if you could suggest a supplier. We are looking at the kr808.

Below I have listed in order what is important to us.

1) Battery life
2) Throat hit
3) Ease of use
4) Somewhat slim

If you have any other suggestions besides the 808 please let me know.

I think the 808 is a great place to start.Vapor4life has ALOT of flavor and size choices.I prefer the Xl manuals.Look there and check around at other places.See what your looking for.Lots of good suppliers here on ECF.

Only 2 weeks in, but I can tell you that from what you are looking for, a mega KR808d-1 battery is probably your best bet. I currently have 7 KR808s and 1 usb passthrough so I really have no worries about not having one to use. 2 standard batteries will get me through a work day. I have one mega battery and it lasted me a good 3/4th of a day. As far as throat hit, just make sure there's enough PG juice in your cartomizer because these batteries will do them enough justice. I have a bottle of VG to add for more vapor and an all-around punchy hit.

My next step is to buy a 510 big battery to see what all the noise is about. Plus I like tinkering with gadgets and the KR808 seems just too simple for me

Considering that battery life and throat hit are your top two requirements, I would consider a better battery device such as the Riva or eGo type PV or a good 5 volt PV such as the GLV2: Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor. Most new people to vaping think they want a small device but so many on this forum come back, move up to a better battery device, love it and wish they had started there. I would suggest that you start with at least some 24mg strength liquid. If you start out with too low nicotine strength, it may be difficult to make the transition. You can always lower the strength if you need to, but you can't make it higher.

Which 808?

If you mean KR808, KR808A, KR808B then they are cigarette size super-minis and as far as I know not popular and I never noticed anyone recommending one. (though I have only been reading forum about 8 weeks)
KR-808

If you mean KR808D-1 (sometimes abbreviated KR8 here), that is probably the most popular 2-piece (i.e. cartomizer) model I've seen mentioned and reviewed. It is a mini. With anything other than the shorty batteries it is longer than a cigarette and the diameter is larger. It is also sold as the "Vapor King" at Vapor4Life (you can find more battery colors there and lots of filled cartos as well as blanks).

I have a KR808D-1 (as Vapor King from V4L) - not my main PV but I was curious about cartos. The premium cartos got a bit hot on the lips for me but I've heard good things about their Coolcarts. (However there are some who prefer the premiums). It's a nice unit, popular for people who like cartomizers, and I have heard good things about the battery life of their standard and xl batteries. BTW what V4L calls "carts" are cartos (i.e. cartomizers, a cart and atomizer in one piece). You can also buy black and white KR808D-1's at a variety of low-markup US ecig hardware vendors.

techy stuff you can ignore if not interested: If you ever want to use a KR808D-1 with separate atty plus carts or a drip tip, I've heard DSE901 atty will screw right on and you could use DSE901 carts or drip tip with that. Or there are adapters for using 510 and maybe other attys.

I got a Kr808 as my first ever e-cig from My Vapour Store and I LOVE it ! Both the batteries and the carts last more than long enough and the two that came in the kit will get me through the day easily. I refer to it as my "pretty blue anti-cancer stick". They live in my purse and go everywhere with me.
I also got a Riva 510 as my second PV. I love that too but for different reasons. lol I got two different sorts because I knew I would want to different things depending on what time of day it was/ mood, ect.
The KR808 is great bet if you are new to vapeing and want something easy to deal with that feels like a smoke. I'll be continueing to buy batteries and cartomizers for it, even with owning the Riva and the EGo pass through.

I think the TH is better on a kr8,it runs 3.7 while other stock batts run lower.

Well therein lies the rub. Super-minis do not have good battery life because their batteries are small and they don't generally excel at TH. Some minis don't have good battery life (like 510 with normal length battery) but minis can probably deliver more TH.

I use a super-mini that at least has at least a tiny bit of respect (the illustrated beginners guide in the ECF Library mentions it) - M402 w/ manual batteries. At work I only vape every 15-20 minutes and usually only for 4-8 drags, and take an occasional drag at my desk. Some days at work I can get 3-4 hours on a well-charged M402 battery. At home I vape a lot more and can go through an M402 battery in about 1.5-2 hours. M401 (same atty and carts but longer battery making it the size of a 110 cigarette - technically a mini but slim as a Marlboro) - those batteries last at least 20% longer. I get OK TH depending on what juice I am using. I did blue foam mod to the carts to get them to flow better than with the stock stuffing. Downside - you have to screw with the carts a lot topping off or doing full fills if it's dry below the stuffing. And it requires an unbent paperclip to get the inner cart up for filling or topping off, and I use a cart plug to push it back down.

At my job, I can mess with carts and juice and have battery chargers right at my desk. Since I am usually at work or at home I can almost always deal with cart filling and recharging batteries. I also have a PCC for charging on the go. And I was a slow dragging smoker of 1.5-2 packs of lights or ultralights per day. I don't need a lot of TH, I don't even take the longest drags possible and get enough TH for me with juices that have decent TH. So M402 and M401 work OK for me.

If you go to a mini, they are not that huge. I think a Marlboro is about 8.5mm diameter. I think the standard battery KR808D-1 may be 110mm long and 9.5mm diameter - so length of 110 cigarette and about 1mm thicker than a standard cigarette.

Whatever you get, you might want to buy a small amount of gear to try it before shelling out for more batteries, more cartos or attys and carts, passthrus, pcc's and all the other brand-specific stuff you can buy. You can try out a unit with one battery, one charger, and depending on the unit either some cartos or an atty and some prefilled carts (don't judge all juices by prefilled cartos and carts - there are lots of fine juice makers). If that unit is not for you, you could sell it in classifieds here at a discount, or give it to a friend who smokes etc. and try a different unit.

When most people say 808 or kr8 or kr808 they are usually referring to the kr808d-1. It's a good choice and vapor4life probably has the best selection available. I started with the 808 myself and then moved onto a 510 Riva for the longer battery life. Plus i think the draw is easier on the 510 cartos. But it depends on how much you used to smoke. I was a 1 to 1.5 PAD smoker. So having a Riva with a single battery that last me 8 hours is important to me. It's always in my hand. But the 808 XL batteries are great. They'll last 3-4 hours for someone like me.

I don't own a KR-808 but they are very popular. You don't mention if you're getting automatic or manual batteries. I read a post yesterday or the day before by someone that had two batteries die because of leaking juice. This can be a problem for any auto battery, regardless of model. I've also read posts stating that some manual KR-808 batteries are not sealed. If you choose autos you need to be careful not to overfill your cartos. If you're planning on getting manual batteries, you might ask the vendor if they are sealed before you place your order. That way you won't have to worry about it. As I said, I'm only restating what I've read. Actual KR-808 owners, please correct me it I'm wrong. In any event good luck and have fun with your new PV.

All of my 808 manuals are sealed. The autos are not as they need the airflow to active the switch.

The VGO i just got for my girl uses KR808 cartomizers but it has 650mah battery that lasts all day. Check out this review as it has some good pics.

Thanks dormouse for all the info. Maybe I should by two different ones, one for my husband and one for myself, but I can't get him to get in to all this information so he just tells me to handle it. The only problem is I know I will have to take care of my husband unit!! He works construction so I need the bat life for him or he'll just get frustrated.

hasher - re battery life, PCC's can be a big help. It's a case with a battery in it. You charge the case overnight and charge your batteries too (I do them separate from the PCC), then during the day you can be using one battery and charging the other in your pocket. I mainly use the PCC to charge when not at work or at home, but I use it every day to carry some gear. many super-mini PCCs can charge 1 battery at a time while carrying one other battery and some carts or cartos. Mini+ PCCs often just fit the one battery they are charging and 2-3 carts or cartos. Some brands have PCCs but not all do.

I think the only way you can get 8-hour to all day battery life out of one battery for a heavy vaper is by going to a larger-than-mini unit like the fat-battery Riva or Ego or to other shapes that don't look like a cigarette.

I know V4L has a PCC for (I think) standard and shorty batteries (for KR8 which is their vapor king) but I don't know if it has one for XL batteries. I think it can charge an XL battery if the PCC case is left open.

I think many PCCs can do about 4 recharges.

BTW - if you haven't looked at them, check out in the New Member sticky threads - the Library thread for the multipart guide especially starting at part 4+ where some popular models start to be shown. And the newbie videos thread where you can see some of those models in use. There are also a ton of review/comparison videos of those models on Youtube. Hard to tell how big the demonstrator is but it will give you an idea of what they look like in use.
