I've been a smoker more often than not over the past 16 years. I've randomly quit now and then, for up to a year at a time more than once, but I so enjoy the action of smoking that I always seem to go back to it. For the last 4-ish years, I've been smoking Parliament Ultra Lights, about 1 to 1-1/2 packs a week. Most work days, I'll have 2-5 cigarettes and on weekends I tend not to smoke at all. It's not at all uncommon for me to go several days without smoking. Recently, Groupon had a deal for a starter kit, I know that no cigarettes are better than just a few & since it's the act of smoking that I love, I thought I should try vaping.

I got my 510-T kit last week with a PG/VG mixed juice at 11mg nicotine and after 2 puffs, my throat felt like the morning after the times I've smoked too much at the bar. I did some searching online & read about the problems some people have with PG & that my nicotine might be too high, so I picked up some plain VG from whole foods & mixed in 50% VG. It helped, but I was still getting the sore throat, so I ordered some 100% VG juice which might be in today. I even vaped straight VG to be sure I didn't get a sore throat- I didn't, but I did get a headache, and I was very hydrated.

After reading a thread here about people vaping 0 nic, I'm thinking I might order some nicotine-free samples today and see how I do with that. If anyone who sees this happens to be of that 0 nic group, I am curious if you still had the initial side effects like everyone else has? I only ask because it seemed like a decent number of people who were infrequent smokers (like me) or even former smokers who had picked up an e-cig instead of turning back to an analog and I assume I'd be on par with that group as far as things like my sore throat not being caused by nicotine withdrawal, etc.

All in all, I'm looking forward to all of this and I'm just hoping I can keep myself from spending a bomb on new flavors & accessories before I even decide if I like it! I absolutely love accoutrements!

First off, Welcome to the forum!

As far as your foray into the world of vaping goes, the Ego T is a decent starter set up, 11mg or 6mg is probably the nic level you want to be at being such a light smoker. I will say that if you are getting 100% VG you may want to consider getting some cartomizers as if I remember correctly the Ego tanks dont wick the thick juices very well, even so 100% VG is hard on just about everything from what I have read here, you can always cut it with distilled water or a touch of vodka, that may cut down on the flavor but will also thin the juice.

You could be allergic to the PG, or it could be that the tank set up isn't functioning properly and you are having an issue with that, I got an Ego T but never the tank set up with it, just standard 510 cartos , but I have seen alot of posts around here about burnt taste and such from the wick/plastic in the tank not working right.

Good luck ! sounds like you are on the right path.

Welcome to the forum Sydlie :)

That was an interesting introduction to read... I found that the first few days of vaping were a bit of change, but very quickly got used to it and no longer use old fashioned cigarettes...

I can fully comprehend the appeal of the hand-to-mouth thing, and e-cigs are ideal for addressing that... You may find that once you have acclimatised to vaping a little, that you can blend a bottle of 0 nic in equal measures with a bottle of 8mg nic, of the same flavour, which will give you just that very slight nicotine hit (4mg) that raises the enjoyment just enough over the zero nicotine liquids...

EEither way, enjoy your new found adventure... but prepare yourself for "mod fever", lol, as you're quite likely to go on the same buying mission that most of us do... :)
