Hey all,

So I picked up my first e-cig a couple weeks ago and I've been using it almost solely (I only switch to cigs when both my batteries are dead -- one is a piece of crap too, so I gotta get a second CTwist.) Anyway, I never learned how to mouth inhale. So for the past couple weeks I've been hitting this with lung inhales. However, in the New Members Information forum, I see a link to this topic which says I should be doing mouth inhales.

I tried to learn again, but I think I'm sort of cheating and inhaling with my throat but keeping most of the vapor in my mouth. In any case, I also saw this topic in which almost every user disagrees and says that they get better (more vapor, nicotine buzz) off of lung inhales.

So... what's up? And any tips on how to properly mouth inhale?

You use whatever method works for you. While I hold in my mouth sometimes, Sometimes I cheat and just directly inhale. It is the nature of it. It is like telling someone they are breathing funny and they are not getting enough oxygen I recommend getting backups for backups in the hardware dept.

And welcome to the forum!!!

Thanks a lot! I will say I've definitely noticed some harshness on my throat from the throat inhales, but the larger issue is this uncomfortable feeling in my throat that I think comes from getting too much vapor at once when lung inhaling (I tend to inhale for a long time... but even when it's not a long time, I think it's just too much vapor to inhale directly into my lungs for some reason.)

I guess I'll just have to play around with it a bit. :)

Whatever you enjoy more of course.

Honestly, I didn't even know there were people who smoked cigarettes with a throat inhale. I and everyone else I know smoke(d) analog cigarettes by inhaling into the mouth then removing the cigarette and inhaling the smoke from the mouth into the lungs. A throat inhale of a cigarette is much too harsh to me.

I smoke e-cigs the exact same way except the initial drag is much slower and longer.

Also a note, I've tried inhaling directly into the lungs with my e-cigs and it seems to be much less effective at producing vapor, and a few times it caused the cartomizer to achieve a burnt taste very quickly.

All you really need to know is that you don't have to lung inhale while you vape because most of the nicotine absorption takes place in your mouth and nasal passages.

The rest is up to you. :)

BTW, I recommend watching YouTube videos on vaping--reviews, tutorials, etc. PBusardo is my favorite video reviewer. Watch him vape--you'll learn quickly how to do it right! :)

Inhalation technique can also vary based on your system.

For example, as a former cigar smoker, I tend to draw long and gently into my mouth and then inhale. My wife (a former cigarette smoker) draws hard and deep into her lungs.

Using a carto-tank setup, my technique results in a very enjoyable (to me) vape experience. If I give my wife one of my carto-tanks, her inhalation method results in a flooded carto within 4-5 drags. Her style of inhalation is so sub-conscious, she's unable to alter it, even when she's aware of the problem and the results. So for her, she's "stuck" with mega-cartos and just avoids carto-tanks.

In the end, we each need to find a device/head that "works best for us" and as a result, there is no such thing as a "best system" or "proper way to inhale".

I do a long slow inhale directly into my lungs (unless it hurts my throat, then it goes into my mouth first). But if I couldn't get that full feeling in my lungs, vaping would not have worked for me. I must have that feeling - I think I'm addicted to that more than to the nicotine. That's why no other nicotine replacement therapy ever worked for me. I'm so psyched I can get that feeling now without cigs!
