Inhalation Technique When Using Personal Vaporizers (ecigs, if you must)

I've been lurking for a while now. I've seen this mentioned a few times, but never really understood until recently what all the confusion was about. I inhale the same way I smoked. Apparently, though, most people took direct lung hits when they smoked analogs? I didn't. I always drew into my mouth first, held a second, and then inhaled.

The only difference for me, between smoking and vaping, is the exhale. I didn't usually exhale through my nose with analogs. It made me nauseous. I do with vaping because of all the yummy goodness.

I obviously had to change my draw a bit, slower/gentler tokes, but it wasn't too big of a leap.

Anyhow, I've been tobacco free for 4 months...and I'm loving it!

The most important points I got from this:

Definitely to be avoided
Try not to apply a lighter to the end of your e-cigarette.
Don't try to flick ash off the end, you'll look stupid.
Do not throw your ecig out of the car window after finishing with it.
Apparently I have been doing a few things wrong...

Inhalation technique is very important. I have a friend who gave up trying to use her e-cigarette after a couple of hours because she said she couldn't get a good 'hit'. She called me and said that the harder she drew on it, the less she got. I told her that you smoke a cigarette very differently than you do a vaporizer. She was ready to give up because of this. I told her to come here and look it up.
It seems like such an easy thing, but it can really make or break the experience for some people!!

Thanks for the bump of this page. I have read it a couple of days into my ECF Membership and have looked for it a few times since with no luck. I just couldn't remember where I saw it. I took this info and quickly retrained myself to not inhale into lungs. It took all of 2-3 days. Since then i have taken very few lungs hits. I get plenty of nicotine keeping the vapor in my mouth and nasal passages. I strted at 18mg and am down to 6mg now in just a couple of months.

Same here. Apparently I smoked analogs the same way you're supposed to vape...always held it in my mouth and then inhaled. I didn't know people did it another way!

Maybe that's partly why this transition has been so smooth for me.

I'm still transitioning from analogs. I've tried inhaling straight into my lungs instead of pulling all the smoke into my mouth first - I can't even figure out how to do it!

As for PV's, I had already figured out the slow draw, it was these tips that helped me most:
Hold the vapor in my mouth before inhaling
Exhale through both my nose and my mouth
Go slow on both the inhale and the exhale

And especially: Take several hits in a row to keep the atomizer warm. Definitely a useful tip when using cartos!
