Very new to this and this is the first time I have have access to a ohm reader.

I just got a MVP2 starter kit with an innokin iClear 30. I don't think I have had it a week and I'm not a chain vaper. The ohm reading was at 2.0 when I last checked. All the sudden I got a very burned taste so I checked the ohms and now they are 4.5. (reads correctly when I put my Kanger tank on) What does that mean? My head already dead?

Thanks!

In a way, you were lucky...the iClear 30 that came with my MVP V2 wouldn't even fire. I got NON when I checked the ohms. There are a couple other top devices that I have trouble with firing, as well...including ordinary cartos. If I can fiddle with the center pin on a top device, I can get it to fire...for awhile. Very frustrating.

I'd say the head is faulty in some way. Possibly it is poor connections where the coil wore contacts the body of the head, however you should make sure that the head is screwed into the base firmly.

The first step in problem solving is to remove the head from the base and take a measurement of the head itself.

Are you removing the internal resistance of the digital multimeter from your reading? Hold the probes firmly together and see what the reading is - probably between 0.2 and 0.4 ohms. This is the internal resistance of the meter and will need to be subtracted from whatever reading you get off the coil itself.

Thanks for the help. It looks like there is "wiggle room" and it looked like the coils are really really close to the metal edge, maybe touching. On the same side one could be broken. Really tough to see. Guess I'm going to have to put a magnifying glass on my shopping list.

What would happen if the coils touched the metal?

I'll just try another head, this one has been leaking ever so slightly anyway. If that doesn't work I may be done with iClears. Love the battery though, seems to work well with everything I have.

If the coil is touching anything metal (like the metal sides of the cup that holds the coils and wicks) then you will get a short. Perhaps that's why you were getting funny, jumping Ohms readings. You can fiddle with the coil with a pin or a needle and space out the wraps so they are not touching any metal. Give that a try before you throw it out.

I may try that. I cleaned it off and it's in good shape and I can see it better now the the wicks are white. I loved the flavor until the horrible random burnt taste. I had fiddled with it a little bit to try to get it to stop leaking. Though I'm pretty sure it didn't touch the wicks. If you hold it up so the juice goes to the wicks you will get juice in the mouth. I researched a little and leaking seems to be a common problem. (That being said, I see on this forum everyday about Kanger leaks but none of mine do)

The Iclear is 2 coils in parallel.
One of the coils is open(disconnected), so you're only reading one coil, which is why the resistance is twice what it should be.

Does "open" mean "touching the metal" as I described or the coil is "broken"? I think the answer "broken" but I have much to learn and assuming things never works for me :)

Again I appreciate everyone's help, I'm learning a lot.

open = broken or disconnected
short = touching something creating a "short" circuit

It will probably still work fine it just has only 1 coil instead of 2, so half the vapor
