So I was charging up one of my 18650s tonight from about 3.6v, and about 3 hours in, I hear a loud pop from the room I charge my batteries in, so I go run in there thinking something bad happened. I look at my charger, and its indicating the battery has less than 66% charge, which I thought was strange considering it would be nearly finished by then. So I pop the battery off the charger and checked it with my multimeter after letting it rest for a bit, and it's reading at 4.14v. There wasn't any smoke, no ruptures in the battery either, and the charger was rather cool in comparison to how it is normally.

Anyone have this happen to them? Would you think it would be safe to use anyway? I have not checked the second bay on it.

Luckily I just ordered a xtar VP1 just an hour before this. Maybe the charger figured out it was being replaced and threw a fit, lol.

I'm not familiar with that charger but my instinct would be to not use it if its indicating the batteries have a around a third less charge than they actually do. Sounds like a recipe for overcharged batteries and possible venting. Its good you have the multimeter.

Like all things mass produced there are always a few that have problems. I have one and its been fine for a long time and many love it . Great charger for a low price. Ive heard some occasionally have a problem with not the charger but the chord. But if you have a problem you could always exchange it.

I got mine from Amazon and they have great customer service and will exchange with no questions asked even after the return time has expired. If I can I always buy from AMazon for that added security and not having to fear returning things.

Yeah, But I got the Nitecore a month ago from fasttech, pretty sure that's past the return for it as it was with the Vamo v2 deal they are doing.

On a side note; I got my XTAR VP1 today, and I'm gonna say I already like it waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more.

It didn't have that whining noise when there were no cells in the bays and its keeping really cool while charging two 18650s. It's about 80 degrees Fahrenheit in my house right now too and the charger deck and plug are maybe a few degrees above room temp right now. It charged a panasonic CGR18650CH in about 3 hours from 3.5v to 4.19v.
