Hi,

My name is Rob and I've been reading through the board here for a bit and there is some great information! I've taken the standard road through vaping the past two years from gas station e-cigs to more powerful mods and tanks.

I do not know a lot about all the technology involved in vaping and to be honest I don't really want to learn all about it. What I want is a good consistent vape all day.

I have been using a Aspire CF Sub Ohm with the Aspire Atlantis tank and recently bought a Triton 2 tank. I've found that using .5 ohm coils seem to give me the right amount of vapor for me. The 1.0 or higher coils don't give me enough and the .3 is sometimes too much with this particular mod. I have gone through 4 Aspire CF Sub Ohms because the batteries stop holding their charge well. Now the first hour or so of vaping with it I get very nice hits that I fully enjoy and want that more consistently because after that hour the hits are poor and I'm tired of buying more CF Sub Ohms.

What I'm hoping someone here can help me with is buying a new mod where I can change batteries when they stop holding their charge instead of buying a new mod. Here is what I am looking for.

- Enough battery life to last me a whole day but on the small side. I vape a lot. 1 battery? 2 battery?
- A mod that I can still use my current tanks with.
- I don't need huge clouds but I like a thicker hit. As I said above the .5 coils give me what I like and the .3 is almost too much, if that helps.
- I want to be able to take my current tanks and coils, screw them into a good mod with replaceable batteries and have a nice consistent vape all day.

I'm coming here because the guy at my vape shop makes it so complicated and seems to want to sell me $90-100 mods that are huge and heavy and he said I would need to buy a new tank for. Not sure I trust what he is saying and I don't understand half of it.

One mod that I liked the feel of at the vape shop was the Joyetech Cuboid 150W but no clue if that would work well for me. It holds two batteries, was smallish and light. I'm not really sure whether I would need to change tanks if I bought it but I don't see why I would have to do that.

Anyway, any thoughts would be very helpful and thank you for reading this long ... post!

THANKS!

Rob

Afaik, your tank is 510 threaded, so pretty much any mod will work with it. I just got a Sigelei mini book 40 watt from my vapor store, it's about twice as powerful as your sub ohm batteries and was $24 from myvaporstore. Has replacable 18650 batteries, so if one doesn't get you through the day, carry two or more. And when the batt craps out, buy a new one for ~$8. Not as future proof as the big whompers, but cheap, small and nice.

Any 510 threaded tank will work on most mods. The below will show you what type of wattage you like and dislike.
  • On your Aspire CF Sub Ohm with a tank using a 0.5Ω coil you were vaping at 35.3 watts when your battery was fully charged (4.2 volts) and as the battery drained so did your wattage. When your battery needed charging (3.5 volts) your were vaping at 24.5 watts.
  • Using the 0.3Ω coil you were vaping at 58.8 watts when your battery was fully charged (4.2 volts) and as the battery drained so did your wattage. When your battery needed charging (3.5 volts) your were vaping at 40.8 watts.
If you want a small mod (1 battery) look at the iStick Pico. It's a 75 watt devise that is very small for a 1 battery mod. If you stay at 60 watts and below you can use a 3000 mAh cell/battery. The LG HG2 is a great choice. Buy 2 so you have a spare.
The iStick Pico sells for $28.95 (mod only) or for $38.95 (mod plus Melo 3 Mini tank which uses the same coils as your Atlantis) at My Vapor Store. Sweet-Vapes also has similar pricing.

In general onboard charging is not recommended. A free standing charger is much better for safety reasons.
BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US. Chargers are also available.

I have the CF SubOhm as well and I had the Atlantis (gave it to a friend as I got into rebuilding). Don't use the CF anymore, but the things I like about it are looks, the simplicity and weight. Things I didn't like were the recharging and that it would lose power as you pointed out.
If you are really set on the tube style, there are some options out there. Aspire makes a vv CF and CF models that take removable batteries (a regulated and an unregulated, I believe). One of those might fit the bill. Tube style is not so popular right now, so you may be able to score a deal (or on the other hand pay dearly).
If you don't care about that, your options are plentiful in box mod world.

Your other choice is removable vs. sealed battery. Your lifestyle and schedule may determine which works best for you. Is it easier to carry around an extra battery or be able to plug it into a wall? Also, on removable battery devices, if you are interested in one that takes two batteries, check back here to ask someone with more knowledge than me about keeping pairs if batteries together (not mixing old and new).

After those two choices are made all you need to of is find one that will fire .5 ohms and goes up to 40w (your brand new CF at full charge puts out 4.2v, which with a .5 ohm coil results in 35 watts). You don't need 150w, but if you like the look and feel, it will do the job.

Hi and welcome to ECF. I have a Joyetech Cuboid 150W and absolutely love it. I love the battery life and the size/ weight. My vaping needs seem to be very similar to yours and I think that you would be very happy with the Cuboid. It has been a very reliable mod for me.

They are actually inexpensive if purchased online. Here is a good example of a trustworthy vendor selling at a good price.
Cuboid 150W TC Mod by JoyeTech $37.99

They also sell some great batteries to use in the Cuboid so that you can do one stop shopping
Samsung INR 18650-25R - Batteries - Accessories

Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase.

The Joyetech Cuboid is a bit heavy with 2 batteries in it, did you hold one with batteries in it? Okay, I have one, and too me its not heavy at all but a lot of people feel it is which is why I asked if you held one with batteries in it.
I'm actually vaping a Cuboid right now in SS316 TC mode! For a dual 18650 mod, it is a nice one for the price! When using a mod that takes two 18650's, you have to "Marry Batteries" for it, which means buy two exact same batteries(Such as the LG HG2's 3000mAh that Susan-S recommended above) Take a Marker or piece of tape and Label one battery 1 and the other 2. Charge them at the same time in a stand alone charger(recommended over charging the batteries through USB while in the mod) And put them both in the mod, and when they die repeat the first step and charge them together, then put them back in the mod but this time, switch 1 and 2 around in the mod(As in the bay it goes in) Doing this will help you get the most life out of your batteries by keeping there Voltage the same throughout their life cycles of being used in the mod and charged. Once you start doing it you dont even think twice about it, and if you forget to switch them every once in a while, there's no harm done! I would suggest that you very much do some research on Batteries and check out @Mooch 's blog and test results to get a good idea of them.

Okay, as for a Single 18650 mod, The Pico that Susan-S also suggested is a great compact mod, and it uses the same Board/Chipset that the Cuboid uses, just in a smaller package and less Power(But Plenty for what you will be using it for!) With a Single 18650 mod there is no need to Marry any batteries, you just carry as many as you need for the day! I still recommend a Stand Alone Charger such as an Efest LUC V4 as a good start. The iStick Pico goes to 75W's but you seem to stay around 40W's or less so that allows you to be perfectly fine with the LG HG2 20A CDR 3000mAh batteries for longer life than most batteries you would typically want if ran the mod at 60Ws and above!

Sorry, I am rambling on and I haven't had any sleep in a while so if this doesn't make much sense I am sorry! If you have a question about something I said just Quote and Reply to my post and I will answer it for you! I really hope you find the Right setup for YOU!
i'm certain by morning a lot more people will be giving there advice as-well!!
Also, when carrying Spare 18650's around, make sure their in a Plastic Case! :thumb:

Hi @RobR

I definitely recommend a VW mod (+TC) as from what you have said about finding different coils not so good or less to your taste on your SuBo battery is kind of expected.

With variable power, all these things are behind you. I use any resistance; anything from 0.5ohms to about 1.5ohms. They all work.

(Oh, sure, I use 0.15 Nickel Coils too... whoops almost forgot)

If I was buying, I'd go for the Cuboid mod (not the mini version) and hope that 2 batteries is a wise move over the 1 of the Evic mini.

For the mod on it's own, you've got to be under $40 in the US (online) and some people have already linked to it.. good job :)

Wow, thank you for the great responses! In watching some review videos and reading here I'm starting to learn some of the intricacies of these devices, which I said I didn't want to learn. :)

It seems the Cuboid and iStick Pico both come highly recommended.

Two other questions:
1) Would a single battery last me a full day with these mods or are they the same as the one in the CF that I have and will only last me 3-4 hours? I'm sure it depends on the battery and age of the battery.

2) If I use different coils with different ohms do the two mods mentioned automatically adjust the wattage or is that an adjustment I would need to make for a .5 or a 1.5?

We can probably do the maths @RobR

If the SuBo was a 2,000mAh battery and now you buy a mod (with 18650 battery), put the same tank on top and run it at the same setting (basically 35 watts when your sub battery was fresh) then you'd expect to get little longer with a 2,500mAh battery, BUT your mod will keep the power at 35 watts, so you won't lose vape power as it drains, but you will lose life.

I would guestimate a 2,000mAh unregulated mod might be almost the same as a 2,500mAh 18650 in a regulated mod as the power stays on 35w the entire time.

*someone will know this, no question*

Yes is the answer to question 2.

Having said/read this, I can't help thinking 2 or 3 battery would suit you better if you are going for long life.

How about the Reuleaux mod with 3 x 18650s?

Thanks for the detail. I checked out the Reuleaux at the store the other day but it's just too large. A friend recommended the SMOK R200 because it holds two batteries but is smaller and lighter than the Cuboid. Any thoughts on that one? I'm going to look fro some reviews.

------------ very excellent point. If you choose a model with removable batteries, and the unit takes 2-3 batteries. each set of batteries that go into the unit together should be marked (I use sticky file folder labels and simply put an A on a set and a B on a set)

your sets of batteries should only be used in the mod together and charged together........... it is not wise to mix batteries of different sets.

haha! Well, what would you recommend for a smaller, lighter mod that uses two batteries?

I do not own one, but the Sigelei 213 looks really nice to me. It costs almost 3 times as much as the Cuboid though.

And I guess I have to throw my beloved Evic VT in the mix as well. Its 5000mAh build in battery should last you a while, no need to buy a charger neither.

It is funny that you mention the Evic. I emailed a friend who lives across the country who I thought might know about this. Turns out he knows a lot about it. That is the one he recommended. He said that buying/carrying the external batteries and the charger can be a pain in the .... and that the Evic should last a whole day for me. If not, I switch to the old CFs I have while it charges. That might be the way I go.

Atlantis and Triton tanks would fit and work well on the Evic? I would think so but just thought I'd ask.

That's the logic! Good man.

Sadly, I don't see it lasting the whole day at 35w, but if you chill it down a bit you're in with a chance.

2,000mAh does me a day but I don't vape much.

All my tanks seem to fit the EVIC. That's what you'd expect but strange things do sometimes happen.

Everything should work on the VT, it's just a regular 510 connection. I wouldn't screw on the tanks too tight if they have a very long 510 connection though. I think I messed up the 510 pin on my VT that way. It's not a huge problem but I had some problems connecting it to an RTA with a shorter 510 connection afterwards. It was an easy fix though, not a huge deal.

Mine lasts me 3 to 4 days on a charge but I vape in Temp Ti mode with the max wattage set to 32,5W, and I guess I don't chain vape (often).

The only thing it won't do is SS coils in TC mode, at least not without being a hassle from what I gather.

But I love mine. It's real easy to use one handed with the rocker switch and straight forward menu, feels solid and well made, looks amazing (imo), and is still pretty small considering the battery capacity. It does have some heft to it though.
