Howdy - Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've been doing some reading on the forum over the last week as I am working on my third day smoke-free and vaping it up after twelve years of doing my best to shorten my life span.

My vaping history begins in 2009 when I bought a cigalike starter kit for around $80 and promptly resold it. Man, that thing sucked! A few months later, I made my own copper tube mod with an 18650, which worked intermittently, but showed me that vaping could satisfy cravings. Anyone else who started back in the dark ages can remember the lack of decent, inexpensive mods, the lack thereof led me back to smoking.

Fast forward another year or so and I'm vaping off a Madvapes Maxi RoughStack - my first real mod. Unlike many, I actually liked the button placement, but got sick of the misfiring, how often cartomizers went bad on me, and after running out of cartos (with no local vape store back then) went back to smoking a pack+ a day. During this time, my new wife quit with a cigalike (she has since gone to an ego and doesn't like how hard my mod hits).

I'm currently running a $12 Fasttech mech mod with a Kanger Mini Protank II and am amazed by how far we've come! Assuming I stick to it this time, I plan to buy a Provari as a 30 day smoke-free gift to myself. 27 days to go....:vapor:

Thank you for the welcome, folks!

I'm one of those guys who loves (loved) to smoke. I hate the smell, the expense, and the health risk, but enjoyed the act. The smoke pit was where things were worked out while I was in the Navy, smoking was like a little reward during the day. Because of this, I am treating the whole vaping gig as a hobby rather than a cessation method. Cessation is something to keep me from doing what I enjoy, while a "hobby" allows me to explore new gear and tinker with things. That is also why I'm delaying the purchase of the Provari, as it gives me something to look forward to as a reward.

I realize this all sounds kind of nuts, but I've tried patches, gum, medication, and this line of thinking is the only way I can get my brain to wrap around the positive. Its "I have something cool and new to do" rather than "I need to quit something I enjoy even though it will eventually kill me" type of mindset. My brain is no quitter - ha!

I also noticed I had my last smoke on D-Day - December 7. Easy to remember my quit date, eh?

Welcome to ecf!!!

A provari is an awesome way to start the new year!!

Just keep in mind that your mini protank will not fit on the provari without an adapter... Forget the adapter!

Time to shop for a kickass new tank as well.

What kickass new tank should I look for? I need something I can fill with juice for the day that is known for producing lots of flavor (something my mini Protank struggles with). I want to get into the tinkering side of things, but for the moment, I want something which will take any liquid I throw at it, is easy to replace heads (coils?), and will look good on the Provari.

Best of luck to you, airframer! Welcome to the forum! I also loved smoking so much (after smoking for 30 years) that when I started vaping, I honestly didn't plan on quitting smoking. After all, I had already tried several times in several different ways to quit smoking and it never worked. I would be left miserable, depressed, and extremely agitated until I would eventually go buy a pack of cigs. lol. I started vaping by telling myself it would help me cut down on the cigs I was smoking and I could have it as a backup if I was too broke to buy a pack of cigs. Once I started vaping, however, there was no turning back for me because luckily I loved vaping way more than I ever did smoking. I think not adding the extra pressure to state to myself that I was never going to smoke again is what helped me. After all, what addict of anything can handle telling themselves they will NEVER have that item they are addicted to again?! whew. Nowadays I am amazed at how much I dislike real cigs and will never go back. I never thought I'd get to the point that I could live without a cig and not be miserable. lol. So long story short, don't stress out over never smoking again or put that sort of pressure on yourself. Take it a day at a time and enjoy some great vape! :)
