*Halloween Special*

So, I had a request for Zombie Green with red splatters. After asking our painter and finding it can be done relatively easily (and considering another well-known mfgr. is producing something similar), I've decided to offer this pattern for the standard $10 color option price. This is a limited offer and only good till shipping begins. Afterwards it will be a $35 add-on. Go ghoul while you still can!

Jon, When does shipping begin? The troops are restless.

While I have no idea if it's remotely accurate, on the podcast interview he did, he said they were around 2 weeks out from shipping, and that was last week. So I'm going to hope that means we have ~1 week to wait (plus actual shipping time >_< )

Yeah, that's right. We hope to have all the parts done by the end of next week, and then they'll be sent off to the painters. Black and titanium will be shipped first, in all probability, but the others won't be more than a couple of days away. Remember, this is if everything goes according to our best estimates, but I reserve the right to be wrong, plus or minus a couple of days. I know it's hard to wait, but believe me we're doing everything possible to get these things out the door as quickly as possible without compromising quality. They would have been ready sooner but a couple of parts runs didn't meet our standards so they had to be redone - happens sometimes with a new product, but I'd rather risk pissing everyone off a bit now than later.

Are we talking the first 100 pre-orders? or are we talking a lot more? I know there was a special code to get in first in the top 100. So does this mean all those that ordered after will be waiting a bit longer? Thanks for any help.

The first 100 will be at the top of the shipping list, but the others will follow very shortly. It's mostly a matter of how quickly they're painted, especially some of the unusual colors. But again, this won't delay things very much.

This device really has me curious... Not 100% sold on the DNA20 as I tend to be a low volts vaper and it looks like it's limited on the low end. But, I'm getting tired of "disposable" mods. You know, the $50 ones that work great for 6 months the go all wonky on you. Voted for, and eagerly awaiting the review.

One question, I've seen on your site and this thread that you only recommend IMR batts. Does that mean those 3000mah Panasonic NCR batts will "void the warranty"? Not too up on my battery chemistry...

IMR batts have what's called "safe chemistry." While I'm sure it's all relative, they're designed for high current usage without going ballistic and taking off your hands and lips. If you crank a DNA 20 up to 20 watts and cause damage to yourself and the device by using a non-IMR battery, yes, that will void the warranty and most probably several body parts. Or maybe not, since our ballistic aluminum tubing should take the brunt of the explosion. And the venting. But it would definitely get really hot. Once a battery goes into thermal runaway there's not much to stop it, save a bucket of water or a blast shield. Even an IMR battery, if shorted, can be really dangerous, so pleeeeze don't run 0.3 ohm coils on a Futura or any mod. Thanks.

Now, as to the matter of "low voltage" vaping, the DNA 20 gets a bad rap on this score. I'm currently running a 1.8 ohm atty; if I set the power to 7 watts it runs between 3.7 and 3.8 volts. That's basically straight battery voltage, but with great regulation. A 1.4 ohmer gives me... wait for it... 3.1-3.2v! Wow! Really? That actually surprises me a bit.

The point is, we're more concerned with actual heat to the coil than a particular voltage. So both these attys, while operating at different voltages, produce the same heat at the coil, although this will vary a bit depending on material, amount of gunk buildup, etc. But it will be very, very consistent in terms of power delivery.

The DNA 20 also has the ability to default to unregulated battery voltage if it falls too far below its regulation threshold. That's why it's able to fire sub-ohm coils, where other regulated devices can't.

Hope this sells you on the DNA 20. One other thing: it just vapes better. Really. That's not unique to the Futura by any means, but we're prettier :)

Right, I was just wondering specifically about those panasonics. I have no idea what "NCR" means, but they are supposed to be ICR batts. So Li-cobalt instead of Li-magnesium. So, no good?

And that 2nd point is why I'm not totally sold. It is the same relative heat. Some of the juices I use with my hand built 2.0 ohm coils just always taste burnt above 3.5 volts (I run in VV not VW, so another reason I'm not sure about it). I find myself on 3.4 volts at 2.0 ohms with one particular juice, so not sure yet if the DNA20 is gonna get it. I'm in no way knocking your device or the chip, just not sure yet if it's right for me.

And I will have to agree that your device does look better. The modular format and apparent build quality are what is really making me consider the switch...

Sure, it's possible that some juices paired with certain coils perform better at lower voltages. In that case I'd suggest a Provari for the ultimate in VV, or even a Nivel device. According to Ohm's Law, and assuming your coil is maintaining a constant resistance (not usually the case once it heats up), you're consuming 5.78 watts. So yeah, a lower power unit would be more to your liking.
