Finally found some time to give the Griffin a whirl. Here's what I did to get this working very, very nice.

Took it apart, and washed every thing in hot tap water:

Discarded stock coil:

Oxidized stock wick 8 times in an one teaspoon corn starch/ 8oz water mix:

Pre-made coil around 1/8" drill bit using 34ga nichrome. Having pre-formed the coil, slid wick through the coil, and tightened the bottom part of the coil around the wick by gently pulling it snug while attaching it to the negative post. I also moved the wick and coil down so that the leg from the coil to the negative post touches the metal base taking care not to allow the coil to contact the silicone post gasket. The purpose of this is not to allow this part of the coil to become a hot spot. Holding the top of the wick, I again snugged the coil around the wick as I tightened the top nut. Used a needle to adjust the coil spacing, loosened the top nut, and made the final adjustment/snugging of the coil while making sure the top leg of the coil is was as short as possible, while not letting the wick touch the post.

Airhole naturally lines up with the wick on mine, so it's good to go here.

Luckily, the wick winds up on the same side as the button on my Provari. Since I typically fire this mod with my thumb, I naturally tip the Griffin into position to wet the wick as I vape. I suspect this could be adjusted by how much the bottom stem nut is tightened if necessary.

So, I wound up with a 2.5 ohm, 6 wrap coil with no shorts or hot spots. Vaping quite nicely at 4.5v.

Get zero dry hits vaping 50/50 juice. Nice flavor, good draw to just a touch on the tight side. Griffin is well made, and I do plan on buying more as well as the clear tubes when available. Only downside to this type of device, is changing flavors requires it to be disassembled unless one wants to vape through a flavor change. PIA, for flavor swappers like myself. Good news is a 2nd mortgage isn't needed to own multiple Griffins.

Oh, and nice SS drip tip.

Sitting here overdosing on nic, came across a couple nuggets I discovered vaping the Griffin.

Unscrewed the cone, but instead the top knurled part began to unscrew with the cone. This moved the wick a little relative to the center post and created a hot leg at the top where the coil moved off the wick. Had to bust out my jewelers glasses and tweaked the coil back right. Note to self...tighten the part the top cone screws on firmly when I recoil.

I've been using it with the fill plug removed, and that works well. A side benefit of leaving the plug out is with the top on, I just pull the DT off and drip 10-15 drops in, and the juice just finds it way down into the tank after a little while.

Finally got tracking on the Griffin and the Phoenix (plus a new item), so it's days away :)
I thought it was going to be much longer so great surprise. Hopefully I get them by Friday!

Any hints on what the new item might be? Or at least what price range the new item will be in so I can possibly set some funds aside? :D
