It seems that IMR batteries would appear to be safe to use. Empire mods and Gotvapes both state that in their Evic descriptions.Could the reason that you are given the mah rating choice in the menu simply be that the rating would be used in the puffs remaining and percentage of remaining battery life calculation?

Well I'm certainly no eVic or Battery Expert, and I do believe that an IMR or INR is certainly much more Safe to use, but I cannot see how the eVic Firmware could possibly relate to anything but a Li-Ion Battery. In Firmware 1.1, it lists either 2000 and 2600, or 2200 and 2600 (haven't had mine for a while). Firmware 1.2 lists 2600 and 3400. The highest mAh Rating for an IMR/INR is 2250 mAh, so it cannot possibly refer to IMR/INR, IMHO.

ICR (Li-Ion) Batteries have a Safe Output Current Limit that should not be exceeded. I believe that the Max Current for ICR is 2X the listed mAh Rating of the Battery. So the Max Safe Current Output of the 2600 mAh Battery would be 5.2A. And he Max Safe Current Output of the 3400 mAh Battery would be 6.8A. An IMR/INR can Safely Output 10A (or more in some designs).

It is therefore my opinion that this eVic Firmware setting is related to limiting the Total Battery Current of an ICR, and is probably why so many people complained about Limited Max Wattage in Firmware 1.0, and maybe 1.1 with a 2200 mAh Battery installed.

Of course, I'd love to hear more from either Joyetech or a Battery Expert about this.

And where is Strontium??? Stirred up a lot of controversy and disappeared.

I'm just wondering why Joyetech wouldn't/didn't give an honest answer to a simple question, asked in this thread a while back...

Someone wrote to Joyetech about the "Protection Question" and this stuff, and Joyetech (seems to me) avoided the question, didn't answer it, and said, those Batteries are of a "Better Chemistry," so you need to use them instead of other Batteries you might be considering... Buy it from us, instead of someplace else.

That was not really any help at all.

Hey Joyetech, are you listening? We need answers from YOU, not more Speculation!!!

Even my own posts here are Speculations, based on Educated Guesses. And I'm the first to admit that!!!

That was me. It didn't fair too well with me either. The batteries listed can't possibly be the only one's that will work in the eVic. Doesn't matter, as soon as I save a few more bucks, I'm getting a PV the company stands behind and doesn't avoid simple questions, Provari.

Can't blame you. Wish I could afford one. Beautiful Design - Stainless Steel Construction - Pretty Heavy Duty.

It appears that Joyetech created this eVic to be in direct competition with the Provari and others like it. Plus, it seems to me, that Joyetech rather Trumped all of them with the Screen, having so much conveniently displayed, with the Control Ring, making it easier to get through the menus (and even easier with Firmware 1.2), and a couple of other things. And to my knowledge, the Provari still doesn't have VW, which can be a great convenience if one changes Atomizers frequently.

Before you give up on the eVic, maybe you could keep watching this thread, to see what Chris at GotVapes comes back with - any conclusive answers about Batteries, Protection, etc. Just a thought. At $105 vs over $250 (if you want to use an 18650 Battery), this is what I'm gonna do.

I got me eVic on a co-op, so I didn't pay retail. Don't get me wrong, I'm vaping on it right now. I like the screen and being able to update the device on line, but I don't need all the other stuff like the MVR charts and all. I looked at it twice, once when I first got it, and again after I upgraded to v 1.2.

What they don't have is durability. I've already seen two broken one's. I can live with the current Provari vv. I use mostly 3Ω cartomizers anyway.

Skip the MVR charts unless you are addicted to numbers, but definitely check out the wattage profiles. (Oh, and be sure to disable the 'puff count'..)

I have a profile set to 8.5W for 1 second, then various steps down to 7.5 - the initial bump gets the juice going and (at least to me) makes a big difference in vape quality on some of my attys. (I can tell when I've accidentally left it on 7.5W flat.) If I hit the same one at 8.5 flat, it ends up tasting singed and warm..

It doesn't make a difference on some of them, but when it does it can be a pretty big improvement.

Are you saying that you've had TWO eVics go BAD on you?

Yeah, I don't care about all the MVP stuff, except for the fact that it would be needed to setup some of the Advanced Features.

I had an eVic go bad on me too. Had to be sent back because the Batteries weren't being Charged to Full. The Battery that came in the Kit Box worked fine, the first time. I bought another 2600 as a Spare. When I put that Battery in, used it, and then Charged it, that's when the trouble started. Then, neither Battery would charge to Full. And things just went downhill from there. Got to where the eVic would turn itself OFF after a while - not Standby, but OFF. The Vendor told me that he had sold over 100 of them, and mine was the only problem.

I posted a thread a while back, asking for advice on an 18650 Mod Design without Issues - going into detail about the problem I'd had with this eVic (and my Vendor). At that time, there were no other replies from eVic owners with problems, though I had seen other posts with what seemed like isolated incidents - nothing like an epidemic.

I know that there are going to be problems with a percentage of things, brand new, right out of the Box, and I had one that the problems developed quite fast - right after the 2nd Battery was installed, on the 3rd day, but... ..Did you have have TWO of them go bad on you, or just hear of someone else with a problem?

No, two different people have posted broken one's. One rolled off a desk onto a carpet, and it broke the control head. I guess they're OK, if you don't drop them.

Depends on how many users here have them. 2 out of 5 would be bad. 2 out of 1500 is ok. (And on what happened to them before they failed completely. I've found for most devices "it just stopped working" is not the whole story.. More digging gets things like "It fell off the roof onto the patio last week but it was fine.."

The only issue I've had with mine is that it turns off occasionally, without waiting for the timeout. I suspect its a software bug. (Maybe I'm just lucky though, I've had devices that were utter junk for almost everyone work fine for me..)

I have a battery question. My Samsung 2,600 mAh battery only lasts about a day and a half, at best. Yes, I'm a heavy vaper, but I think it should last longer than that. I also notice when it gets down to about 40% charge, it quickly goes down to 15%, seemingly all at once. Do I have a bad battery?

Secondly, I ordered a Panasonic 3,100 mAh (NCR18650A, Li-Ion MH112210) by mistake. Can someone chime in and tell me if I can use it?

For what it's worth, that is what I'm seeing also (stock battery.)

Well, I'm impatient. Since I've not received any "don't do this's" I loaded the Panasonic 18650A into the eVic and it's charging. Is there a sound like a phaser on over-load if a battery is about to explode?
