Hello,

I jumped into the world of vaping about 2 weeks ago and so far it's been a rather pleasant transition. I have not had a single cigarette since the time of jumping, approximately 15 days. However, this has not been an entirely seamless transition, for I have had my share of grievances. I won't get into all of them, but I will be divulging one grievance in particular. This grievance I feel is pretty straight forward and is readily resolvable. I digress.

Okay, as I previously stated, I am relatively new to the world of vaping. On July 8th I placed an order for an eGo One XL 2200 Mah stater kit from a website known as VapeNW. Now, first and foremost, I must state that my grievance is NOT with the website. I continue, the transaction went smooth, my order was then shipped on the 9th via USPS first class mail. The order was shipped for FREE.

My kit was then delivered on the 18th of July. Everything was intact, the kit was brand new unopened and still in the original cellophane. I should note that I had also ordered a 15ml bottle of e liquid, that is why the shipping was free. I opened the kit, scanned through the User manual and got myself familiar with the device. I also researched this device online. After thoroughly familiarizing myself with device, I decided that it was time to take it for a test ride. So I did.

Another thing I should note is, the device I have is the UPGRADED version of the XL. NO it is NOT the Mini or the Mega, it is the the upgraded version of the regular XL, it comes with an upgraded Mega/Mini styled atomizer with bigger windows. I repeat it is NOT the Mega or the Mini, it just has an upgraded atomizer with bigger windows that matches the style of the Mega and Mini.

The device comes with the 1.0 ohm coil head pre-installed. That is the coil head I decided to use. I then proceeded to fill the tank, after filling the tank I screwed the base onto the atomizer and the atomizer onto the battery. I left the device to sit in the upright position for 10-20 minutes, as to "prime" the coil head. Upon returning to the device, right off the bat I had noticed that the device was leaking. It wasn't a significant amount of leakage, so I didn't think anything of it. Not to mention from the research I did on this device it would appear that SOME leakage is normal and it shouldn't be of any concern.

After wiping the device off, I took my first draw. The first draw was rather unpleasant, it left a very plastic-y like after taste in my mouth. My first impression was that this plastic like taste was normal and that it would get better with use. The second draw was the same. However, as time went on, the plastic like taste did fade away, but only somewhat. Again, this is something that I perceived to be as normal and I also thought that it would go away once the device had been fully "broken-in" so to speak. But the plastic like taste never went away, and just recently it go WORSE, a lot worse.

The leaking issues also got worse and the unpleasant taste literally became unbearable, it was like burnt plastic. Before you jump to any conclusions, I always kept the device very clean, and made sure to never let the liquid get half way below the windows. I took the device apart, emptied the liquid and cleaned the atomizer, base and coil head in HOT water multiple times. For the record, the liquid I mainly use is a VG dominant based Liquid, however, I have also tried a variety of PG based liquids but the issue still persisted.

After coming to the conclusion that my cleaning efforts were futile I decided that I would try using the unused 0.5 ohm coil head. After cleaning the device once more, I replaced the 1.0 ohm coil head with the 0.5 ohm. I filled the tank, screwed the base onto the tank, etc, and let the device prime. I let the device prime for approximately 25 minutes, after returning to the device, I had noticed MAJOR leakage. Roughly two/thirds of the liquid had leaked out of the tank and was running down the side of the battery. Everything was screwed on as TIGHT as possible. I noticed that some people have stated that the coil head will come unscrewed when unscrewing the base from the tank, I personally have NEVER had this issue, my coil heads always stay in tact and screwed into the base. I refilled the tank, screwed everything together and didn't bother letting it prime, seeing as how the coil head was already primed. I took a draw and sure enough, I got that same plastic like taste. Leakage also continued to persist as I was vaping. I had a paper towel in my hand and was wiping as it was leaking. By the time I was done vaping, again, nearly all the liquid had leaked out and was saturated in the paper towel I was using to wipe.

Here's where I need advice. Since I obviously have a defective device and I am most definitely within the grounds of enacting the warranty for either a refund or a replacement model, I would prefer a replacement model, who exactly do I take this issue up with?

Do I contact the vendor or do I contact Joyetech directly?

I just don't see why the vendor should have to take a loss for something that's obviously a manufacturer defect.

So, does anyone have any advice on how I should resolve this issue? The device I have is currently unusable, and it is most definitely the result of the manufacturer. Like I said, I'm a newbie and I'm not sure which route would be the correct way to go. I would really like a replacement model, I'm just not sure who I should be contacting about the issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Vapore & welcome to ECF.

If I got the website right, their return/warranty policy is published here:
http://vapenw.com/index.php/return-policy
(copy & paste the URL. Since they appear to sell gear to be used with "other stuff", I made the link plain)

Best course of action is to contact the site, explain the issue, and hope they'll exchange it.

If they are willing to consider it a manufacturer's defect, they may sidestep the part that states they:
"...DO NOT accept returns of: atomizers, clearomizers, cartomizers, bottled liquid, drip tips, batteries, wick, wire, mechanical mods, rebuildable devices and atomizers and parts for rebuildables and/or atomizers for sanitary reasons. Therefore, our Return Policy EXCLUDES any products of this kind. "

The eGo XL is technically an atomizer and a battery so they may tell you there's nothing they can (will) do.

If that's unsuccessful, next step would be to try Joyetech.

Before either though, you may want to reassess the assembly and make sure everything was/is assembled correctly because in my experience, many perceived product issues can be traced to user error. Maybe watch a couple of YouTube vids to make sure you did everything right.

Good luck and I hope you can either resolve the issue or get it working.

Thank you for your reply, I am familiar with the vendors return policy, that is why I made this thread, just to kind of probe and see if it would be best to contact the manufacturer directly. Which, is most likely what I am going to have to do.

I assure you, this is most definitely the result of faulty manufacturing, I have watched nearly every video on Youtube that pertains to the assembly and use of the eGo One. Including this one.

I have also done quite a bit of reading on this website and many other websites, and it appears a significant portion of eGo One owners have also reported similar issues to the ones I am experiencing. So it is by no means the result of user error, or misuse.

Again, thank you for your post, and um, I guess I'll be contacting Joyetech directly. Any info on how would be the best way to go about doing this? I read on this website that if you live in the US, it would be best to just call them, can you confirm this?

Edit: On second thought maybe I will contact the vendor first, it wouldn't hurt.

If that doesn't work, then I'll proceed with contacting Joyetech directly.

Personally, I would always try calling first, whether it's the website or Joyetech. CS reps typically add details on their calls into the computer system; because of that, when you fill out the return request form or initiate any other written communication, you can state that you spoke with "so and so" in customer service on date X and add any potentially relevant details of that call.

Apologies if my first post sounded like I was faulting you for the problem, I was just being thorough. I said "in my experience" because I myself took a CLK 1280 back to my local vape shop when Mrs. 'tude told me it wouldn't fire. I plugged it in, saw that it was fully charged, tried unsuccessfully to vape it and it really wouldn't fire. Turns out, she hadn't clicked the wattage wheel into place (and I hadn't tried other settings) so it was in between 4.5 and 4.8. and naturally, it wouldn't fire.

Everybody in the shop had a good laugh, myself included.

I'm not familiar with that particular vendor but quite often, reputable sellers will do what they can to keep their customers. If they don't take care of you, it may be time to shop elsewhere.

Good luck!

Are you using any kind of citrusy or cinnamony type of juice and do you have a plastic tank? Maybe this is a 'tank crack' issue. Search here on the Forum using cracked tank as the keywords. I'd find and link to the appropriate posts and threads for you, but I'm about to leave. She's crankily saying, "You're still on that computer?!".. Good luck bud :)
